As James' screenshots show, there's a lot of cool stuff going on in and around Creeperton. Back when we were having our troll problems, I was a little skittish about settling down in such an accessible area and went a bit further out. Now that things have calmed down, I think it's safe to share the secrets of The Frontier.
The easiest way to get there is through the Stargate. Most of the trip is through a tunnel and thus safe, though when you cross the bridge you're going to have to face this guy (unless I bow and arrow him in the face between now and then). He's not too dangerous so long as you keep as moving.
If you survive that, you should be able to find the portal back to the real world. Exit to your right and you'll find yourself inside stately Sheepco Manor.
This is The Boss. Stay clear of him and he'll stay clear of you.
Outside, you'll find a pretty good example of how NOT to run a ranch. Animals hop the fence like it ain't no thing, and having so many kinds of animal makes it impossible to breed and harvest the ones you want. I consider it a learning experience and a petting zoo.
Behind and to the left of the mansion is an abandoned village. There's a pretty deep and spooky abandoned mine directly underneath. Above ground, there's a good old fashioned county church, complete with chickens in the basement. Yee haw!
Going the other way, down the winding wooden road, eventually you'll reach this. Note the tall cobblestone walls that keep the cows in and the prettiness out. I'll figure you out one of these days, fences!
And on the other side of the mountain, my home away from home, the Self-Sufficient Seaside Saltwater Christmas Tree Farm. If you've ever wondered where I was, it was probably here, harvesting a ton of wood and then never building anything.
Finally, there's this. There really isn't anything here. I don't know why we end the tour on it.
Not pictured is plenty of open desert, mountain and pine forest real estate just waiting to be exploited.
The winterization of Creeperton is looking great, by the way. Whoever thought of using Snow Golems for that is a genius. I think once the place is good and snowed over, I'm going to try and light things up a little bit more so it can quit earning its name.

Guo, I added you to the whitelist.
Those are great screenshots, Giz.
I made an extremely rough sketch of the areas I have explored so far. I have left off a ton of landmarks, and I am sure I screwed up the scales a bit, but it gives and idea of where I have been so far. The dotted lines are meant to represent a fully explored 1-kilometer-square map. (I should have made both of them the same side, but, rough sketch)

For those heading to Mushroom island, Some pictures of the path.
First, find the zombie, He's just behind the Pyramid and Stargate. Make note of the mushroom atop his head.
Make you way behind the mushroom and climb the tree to get to the dirt skyroad. It may take a few jumps to get there. Turn right and follow the cobblestone lined path.
Keep heading straight, in about a days time you'll see this lovely piece of machinery. It's the Mushroom train, and it's bringing Fresh Mushy goodness closer everyday.
At the end of the path, You'll find Mushroom Cow Island. It's home to the Sacred Red Cow. These beauties have a seemingly endless supply of mushroom soup pouring from their udder. A word of warning, Don't slay the Red Cow, Lest you bring a terrible curse upon us all.
Besides a fair sized village, There isn't much else out here yet. It's a good place to explore and mine with a good food source, so long as you bring a few bowls with you.

I am perpetually astonished by the vastness of the Minecraft world.
Our map is currently 11.6 kilometers by 21.3 kilometers. only narrow bands of that area have been explored, and only a few square kilometers have been fully explored.
Here is our world map:

This is the best explored area of our map. This map is roughly 5 kilometers square. I labeled a couple places

This is the origin area. New players will start at the origin point. This map is a little over half a kilometer square. I labeled a few landmarks, but there is a ton of other stuff here.
I would love it if I could load the map into a google maps style interface and we could all mark notes on it, but I have no idea how to do that. (I did find one website that does generates google maps style interface for uploaded maps, but it had a processing queue back to september for maps a quarter the size of ours.)
The mapping tool i used to generate this was called Minecraft Topological Survey. It was written for an older version of minecraft, which is why a lot of the newer block types show up as purple pixels.

We were having some trouble with griefers who had figured out how to bypass the whitelist (apparently it is a known exploit that Mojang hasn't fixed yet) I am a dope, and I had the whitelist configured wrong. The server shared an IP:port with some old server that used to be on the same host, so I think that is how they were finding us.
I am moving the server to a new IP address. The new server is at:
creeper.hamsterrepublic.com:26065
We still have our same world, so nobody lost anything (except a few items that one griefer stole)

:P The island on a stick won't be an island on a stick for very much longer xD
It's really cool to see the world map like that. Is there more stations on the railroad now? It'd be nice to get across the map quickly without openning (more) Nether Portals :S.

I would enjoy lengthening the railroad, perhaps running it across the dirt bridge that goes to the mushroom island, but I haven't started on that yet. It takes a heck of a lot of iron.

I would love to join in on this fest with you guys, but unfortunatly, I do believe I have to pay to be able to play. Thats not how I roll.
It costs $26.95 to buy the game, but there is no monthly fee to keep playing (Well, technically, there is a fee to host the server, but I am playing that for all of us)
If you wait around there might be a sale. They do sales from time to time. (if I recall correctly it was on sale for like $18 when I bought it)
