Finally got it to work, but it was super finicky and a overall pain to do. Just glad I didn't have to pay for the game again.

I followed these directions and still can't get it to work. When I try to migrate my old account, it says that I'm entering the wrong username or password. There is no function to retrieve a lost password, ironically.
I've sent emails to Mojang, but I doubt they are going to be able to help me. They say the best way to prove that you had the full version is to give them the transaction ID. Well, considering I bought this back in alpha/beta stages a few years ago and my credit card company only keeps 180 days worth of statements, it looks like I am screwed.

I wouldn't give up just yet. They have to have records that the username existed. The transaction ID they want would actually probably not be in your credit card statement, it would be in an e-mail. Also, do you remember which credit card processor you used? Mojang doesn't accept credit card directly, so most people purchase through paypal or moneybookers (now renamed Skrill) and I know the history on my own Paypal account goes all the way back to 2005 (That being said I did not buy with Paypal so I couldn't find it there, but I was able to find the e-mail from 2011 with the subject line "Minecraft purchase complete")
Meowskivich thinks he may go minecrafting here shortly, if anyone wishes to join him in ruling the world.

If anybody wants to get directly to the new terrain without having to explore off the edges of the old terrain, go to Creeperton, find the Teleportation building, and look for the teleporter labeled "Pinestraw Frontier"

I lost all of my inventory yesterday because of some changes made to the rail system that goes to the igloos I was working on a few months back.
I wasn't able to get back because my spawning bed had been moved as well, so I was forced to go back to the original spawning point. I could not remember how to get back to Wallachia from there, so I lost everything.
Perhaps a sign at that spawn point would prevent this from happening again? Maybe there is one already but I didn't see it. Luckily I still have a stockpile of diamonds to make all of my stuff again.

If you get back to the igloos before anybody else visits that area, you stuff might still be there. Items on the ground disappear after 5 minutes, but ONLY if somebody is in the area to keep the chunks loaded. This has saved me a few times in the Nether. Last week I was several kilometers into the nether, and accidentally punched a Zombie Pigman, and died fast and messily. It took me about 2 days (earth time) to get back there, but all my enchanted diamond equipment was just sitting there on the ground
Anyway, from the spawn, you go directly south to Creeperton. (I thought there was a sign, but I might be mistaken) In creeperton, the Teleporter building is a tall stone brick building on the west edge of town. It has a sign on the front labeling it.
Know what would be cool? Disabling dropping of items on death. Hint hint.

I prefer Vanilla Minecraft as well, and I wouldn't want the stuff not to drop either. I'll take a trip out there and see if this stuff is still around

You were 100% right, James. My stuff was still there!
I figured out what caused my deaths too. Jabbercat said it might be a bug, but I noticed that you can sometimes be thrown over/into weird things when dismounting a minecart. I'm not sure whether something was changed with this in the update, but it certainly didn't used to happen to me.
I died two more times from this before I just hoofed it the entire way. Needless to say do NOT head out to the Igloo area via a cart until this is fixed.
Now, to check out the new stuff!

Oh! I stand corrected.
However, what I said about being terrified still stands :)

Oh! Now that you mention this, I do remember that happened to me recently. I would have die if I hadn't been wearing my Magic High Tops of Feather Falling II. Apparently when you dismount a minecart, you end up somewhere randomly 2 or 3 blocks away. This makes many of our sky-rail platforms potentially deadly, because most of them are pretty small and the minecart stops close to the edge.
I guess the best workaround while we wait for the bug to be fixed is to just make all the skyrail station platforms a little bit bigger. Fortunately the random dismount seems to be only horizontal, not vertical.

Whatevs. I find it annoying to drop everything, mostly because it explodes from your body and not just drops in a neat pile, but also because I often only die when I'm lost.
