I tried playing on other servers once.

It was awful.

I was on a PvP server (which is probably my mistake in the first place), and after being serial murdered I decided to move away from the clustered spawn to build up resources. Only five minutes after did two guys hunt me down, chase me, and brutally lag murder me despite not having anything for them to take. I freaked, and some guy started saying shit to me, including nitpicking stuff about my grammar while having poor grammar himself. The above was the end result of the conversation.

I don't like people.

I'd love it if we could all go to that server, and he'd be all like "Who are you?" and we'd be all like "We're from that little private server, boi." and then gang attack him.

Yes, I understand some servers can be quite hostile.

I am glad that our server is extremely low-grief :)

Never play on the MineZ servers. The main point is survival, and to actually do so means working together. No one does this. Players indiscriminately murder other players, and then die themselves, because fighting zombies on your own is suicide.

Hoo boy, public servers. My friend is hooked on them for the competition and ranked leveling systems they sometimes have, but it's never gone well for me. I had quite a bit of difficulty finding basic resources and defending myself against simple zombies. I had a hard time communicating with my friend, too, since I don't have a microphone and the 50+ players are constantly chatting with each other or trolling people or begging for stuff. And the server distributes automated messages onto the screen several times a minute, which can make it very difficult to see at times.

Now, here's a funny bit - my friend is attempting to do a Minecraft Let's Play on that public server. I was honest with him and told him I couldn't imagine anything going right for him and his videos, but I think he's giving it a go nonetheless. Poor guy.

I don't play much Minecraft these days, but when I do, I always appreciate the personal efforts and overall tranquility that the OHR server has acquired over the years months? Small, peaceful, cooperative (sometimes), and personal. It's so important I've said it twice. Everyone knows everyone, so it's a right joy when several people are on at once. You can't get that feeling from a public server.

I tried to rebuild the map last night, but this morning it still isn't finished uploading. So 9 hours is not long enough to download our world, generate the map, and upload the result, even with my fast home internet :P

Our world is now 2.1 gigabytes when zipped.

EDIT: So here is the situation with the map.

The world file is 2.1 gigabytes. The pigmap output is 2.2 gigabytes.

If I regenerate it at home, it will take over 48 hours (95% of that being upload time)

If I regenerate it at work, it will take over 48 hours (Split about half and half between upload and download.)

I can get the total regeneration time down to about 28 hours if I download at home, transfer to a thumb drive, take it to work with me, and upload it from a work computer. (about 5 of those hours are just local usb copy operations)

It amuses me that the fastest data-transfer operation in the whole chain is the drive through Los Angeles traffic :)

The upshot is that I think I will switch to regenerating the map monthly, instead of weekly. :)

Sorta like a small country town. Only with more undead and less explosions.

Okay, I'm back, and I've established a much safer route that anyone can easily take to the Starlight Stronghold whenever they want. If you reference the points on the online map, this map will take you right to it, almost entirely on rails or on lit pathways. Eventually I hope to make a dedicated railway that will bypass the big U-shaped gap and go straight to the Stronghold.

From the Spawn Swamp, locate the Sod House and ride the rail to Creeperton. From Creeperton, take the next rail to Snowy Station, and then take another rail towards Keble. Take the rail on the adjacent railway a little further into Spawnerton.
Once you reach Spawnerton (which I still think is the cutest little town on the server), navigate your way to those big floating lines of dirt and stone; you'll see them almost immediately. Find the stairway up to them and start moving towards your left-hand side on the rails. Eventually you'll reach a 3-way junction with a path towards the Starlight Stronghold.

It's a long hike that I haven't paved with rails yet, but a large part of the way is suspended in the air by cobble slabs. When they finally touch down, follow the torches until you find a big cross-shaped sign post. Follow the boat sign to reach the Land's End safe house.

There'll be a place to plonk a boat (there's trees nearby if you haven't got any wood to make one) - sail straight out. There's an island nearby; you can have a look around, or sail around or underneath it. Keep going past a tiny ocean mining platform, and you'll see the massive Starlight Bridge. As impressive as it is, the Stronghold isn't located at either end. Find the island connected to the bridge and you'll see a brick house with a more modest bridge leading straight ahead. Follow it, and you'll be at the Starlight Stronghold in no time!

That place has been around for months, and some people really didn't enjoy going there, so why should you bother exploring it? There's three big reasons - first, every hostile mob spawner has either been disabled or destroyed, so it's less a dungeon and more of a tourist attraction now. Second, torches have been put up all over the place, making the big structure almost entirely mob-proof, which will make it much nicer to explore thoroughly.

Third, and most importantly, is the treasure. I've been to and from this place several times, but there's always been some kind of hidden treasure to pick up that I missed previously. There's just too much, I could never carry it all. Music discs, rare building materials, and possibly even diamonds, to name a few. If there really are no more treasures to your liking, you can help yourself to the animal spawners on the floating ring of islands surrounding the stronghold. Stock up all you like on feathers, leather, wool, and food of all kinds! It will never run out! I think there are even some squid eggs in the underwater part of the stronghold; if you can get to them, you can start your own aquarium!

But after such a long hike, it will surely be a drag to walk all the way back, right? Wrong! The Stronghold features an End Portal near the top of its tallest tower! Just shimmy up to the top however you can, break the ice barrier if it's still there, and dive into the little water pool to get teleported! From the End, you can find the exit portal and end up (if I'm not mistaken) back at the Spawn Swamp.

(And in case that doesn't work, some kind soul has erected a safe house and a Nether Portal beneath it at the far end of the Starlight Bridge.)

O minecraft,
How I love thee in the day,
at night I miss your presences.
Who are those that judge me?

With my pickaxe
and with my bucket,
truly I can mine ores.

Where is everyone?

I'm working on another cathedral. It is/will be considerably bigger than the current one. Much more ornate.

^Wow.

I've been off and on, but you'll never find me because I went to my continent, and had an exploration expedition and found some naturally floating islands and stayed there.

Yep. Pretty much.
Also, I'm with Master K, so you won't easily find me either.
