My cats are getting on my last nerve. I bred a whole bunch of them, and positioned them strategically to protect my structures from creeper damage, but every so often they stop sitting and teleport to me for no reason. This is especially infuriating when I am mining near lava, because it rapidly leads to burning cats nuzzling my feet and trying to push me into the lava (okay, I know that isn't what they are trying to do, but it is the effect anyway)
Also, Creeper detection of cats seems strangely spotty. I was seriously surrounded by 8 cats in close proximity, and was still blasted by two creepers in under 30 seconds (losing several cats in the process)
Yeah, cats are surprisingly annoying creatures in minecraft, for some reason.

James, it might be time to bite the bullet and learn to deal with creepers in melee (not as hard as you think).

I personally deal with everything melee. Thus why on multiplayer servers I tend to be the bodyguard for people, especially when they're mining.

Oh, I melee creepers all the time. I just run at them, and give them three quick slashes with a diamond sword, and Bob's your Uncle.
That time I got double-blasted by the creepers with 8 cats around me, I never even heard the hissing because of all the "Meow!"
My best guess is that the creeper runs away from the first cat it sees, so if the first cat chases it towards me and the other cats, it ignores the other cats.

Ditto! I'm going to try and get on the server a little bit in the next few days.
Unfortunately the internet has gone to crap while I was away, and it literally takes 15 seconds at minimum for the game to realize I've opened a chest or triggered a pressure plate or gotten shot by a skeleton. It'll be too much lag for me to actually play or chat with if my connection doesn't get any better.
IN OTHER NEWS, I forgot if I already posted about the new awesome stuff being added to the game (Pyramids, Jungle Temples w/pregenerated puzzles, tripwires), but one significant change coming in 1.3 is a serious redo of the experience system. Used to be, it was quadratic (I think), so later levels took a crapton of time and exp to achieve. Also the max enchant level was 50. Now, the leveling system is linear (up to a point - this is still being tweaked), making them much easier to achieve, and the max enchanting level has been reduced to 30. I think all the high-level enchants are still intact, it's just easier to get them.
I actually tried playing with the "all-linear" leveling system from a week ago, and I'd say it was way too easy. The current system is that it's linear up to, like, level 16, and then it takes more and more exp per level, each level. Max enchant level is still 30.
What this means is that Knockback Gold Swords, which I mentioned earlier, will be much easier to acquire.
EDIT: I'm also considering making a new Adventure Map with this new technology. If and when I finish it, I'll try and get James to hack it into our world. Maybe by then we'll be able to take advantage of /gamemode 2

I kinda like the idea of adventure mode, it'll be good for adventure maps so people can't cheat and break the map. Well, not as easily. Sorta. It'll at least help prevent accidental things from happening as easily at least.

I'M BACK
This is what I've been doing in my free time during last week's so-called Minecraft hiatus, in which I was unable to stay away from single-player mode. (read: this castle is not on the OHR server)
The building itself is now complete, as are several of the rooms inside. I'd still like to furnish the last few rooms, as well as add a dungeon in the basement and a village somewhere nearby.
More screenshots of the castle!

The castle was made in Creative mode. Still took me like four days to finish, though!
And now for a hilarious construction blooper: at one point I accidentally made one of the stone brick walls out of Silverfish blocks instead. I started to break it apart to fix it when they exploded all over the place and infected my cobblestone floors. Thanks to the power of SCIENCE (actually just a lot of fire) I managed to clear away the infestation and rebuild everything that was damaged.
But who's to say I got them all? One could still be lurking somewhere in the stones... breeding...
