Wozzek (Jabbercat) has already located one of the Strongholds. It is accessible deep under the basement of Oxford. It is fairly small, and contains no Library, but it does have Iron Bar windows, and silverfish.

Wait, there's silverfish in this game? Wow. I've never actually seen anyone put silverfish in a game before (though plenty of them show up in my bathroom.)

Now I might have to actually try this sometime...

coords of the dungeon is -807, 35.7, 324 . It's beneath a lake, but if you dig straight down it'll put you right into the portal chamber.

Cool! If you get a chance before I do, could you put up some signs in the area warning that the chunk deleting gods plan to nuke the area from orbit soon, so nobody should build anything there or store any boxes there

There's a couple of mines and a few furnaces near that location. Dunno whose they are, don't seem to be any storage yet.

Few furnaces: -723, 73, 245
"James Slept Here" house of dirt and glass: -754, 71, 169

Might be far enough away that it doesn't make a difference, just thought I'd be thorough and look.

I downloaded a backup, loaded it in MCEdit, and deleted all the chunks in an area I wanted to spawn. Then I played in single-player and ran over to that location, and discovered a vast terrifying rectangular bottomless pit.

I had deleted all the BLOCKS in the those chunks, but not the chunks themselves. I know what I am trying to do is possible, but I haven't figured out the right way to do it in MCEdit yet :)

I figured out how to do my own automated mirroring of clanforge's automated backups. See http://mirror.motherhamster.org/minecraft/

The backups are in tar.gz format, and it will download a new one automatically once a week (on sunday) http://mirror.motherhamster.org/minecraft/world.tar.gz will always point to the latest one.

EDIT: I did figure out how to delete chunks in MCEdit. Now to see if I can force the stronghold to be regenerated ona singleplayer copy of our map. (It is amazing how challenging it can be to reach a specific location sometimes, even when you know the exact x, y, z)

Come Visit Scenic SPAWNERTON!

This humble little villa may not look like much, but come by some time and maybe you'll be surprised! We're a growing town with an autonomous economy and lots and lots of sheep.

HOW TO GET TO SPAWNERTON:
There are a number of rail lines that lead to Spawnerton, but the latest one will take you straight into the heart of town from Oxford. Locate Creeperton, take the middle rail to Oxford, exit the campus immediately and go on top of that same rail line, and you're on your way to Spawnerton!

The rail makes a noticeable stop below the new Keble college. Though it's not yet complete, it's nonetheless the largest structure wrought from brick blocks you'll find anywhere!

Our latest addition is this nifty Cherry Blossom tree (James's idea), which is blossoming and spreading its petals everywhere! Soon, I'm sure, there will be lots of these around town. The cherry blossoms are seasonal, so try to come and see them before spring comes and goes!

This message has been brought to you by the Minecraftian Bureau of Parks & Recration and Rep. Peachlabs

(blech, it doesn't roll off the tongue very well, does it?)

Yes, more screenshots would be nice. I haven't been on in quite a while; looks like everyone else is still spending loads of time on the server ;) What ever happened to the giant Bob sculpture plans?

James, I think you calculated the locations of the strongholds incorrectly: the wiki says that they are positioned evenly around 0,0, not the new player spawn location. Not that it matters anymore?

Yeah. I had assumed that 0,0,0 was the spawn location, and I was surprised to discover that was not true.

Swamptroll/Wozzek sent me a copy of a nice big natural Stronghold, and Baconlabs is sending me a copy of a large hand-made island fortress from an adventure map he made.

Some time soon (probably friday afternoon) I will take the server down for a couple hours and paste both of those things into our world using MCEdit, and then re-upload.

Speaking of 0, 0... last year I put a tower at 0, 0. It's not very good but it makes for a good marker... If anyone wants to do something with it... (also I just saw the map, I didn't realise how big my isle-on-a-stick was :S I need to finish that!)

EDIT:

COME QUICK!!!

This is flying over my island :S

EDIT 2:

Nevermind in the time it took me to upload those images it was gone :'(.
And sorry about the mess I just had to get that image when I saw that... but this island is now officially Sky-Squid Island.

Also; does anyone want to try out the Skyblock I set-up once I get:
1) Grass and
2) A Lava Bucket
up there?

Need the "On a Rail" achievement? Come here!

I have no idea where this thing starts, some random spot above an icy ocean, but it passes by Spawnerton and continues a fair part of the skyway to Shroomerton and the Sacred Mooshroom Island. Over 1,000 meters of straight rails! Pretty impressive.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the new Spawnerton sheep ranch got finished a while ago. Come here for all your colored wool needs! There's even some extra shears you can use for free!

Also you may have noticed I keep changing texture packs. Hope you don't mind, it's a habit of mine.

A terrifying omen has appeared in the sky!

Yesterday afternoon I pasted in a Wozzek's Stronghold, and just for kicks I put it in the sky instead of in the ground. This is a natural Stronghold, just in an unnatural place. It does indeed have an End Portal.

I also pasted in Baconlabs Starlight Stronghold adventure map. It is an island, so I put it in one of our existing oceans. I have not reached it yet to take screenshots, but it is south-ish of Spawnerton and east-ish from Giz's farms. I am being vague about the location because it is so huge it shouldn't be that hard to find. This also has an End Portal

I looked around for quite a bit and finally found my lovely stronghold around 0, 2000! It's even more dangerous than I remembered! I almost died several times just by having a look around the place, trying not to touch anything.
If anyone reading this wants to try this dungeon, I'd highly recommend coming with a friend and a mostly-empty inventory. (Don't worry, there's free gear, supplies, food, and beds on the 2nd floor sanctuary)
It's almost directly south of Snowy Station, so I guess that's my next rail project.

Also, I snuck around and stole a particularly valuable treasure before leaving Starlight:

And I'm giving it to NeoSpade for use on his Flying Squid Island. You'll find it in that chest there, buddy.

Thanks a lot Baconlabs Smile This'll make life oh-so much easier and will save me from needing to make a dirt stairway to Sky Squid Island Grin
