Hopeful Return

Hey guys, my bad for disappearing during the middle of the HOHR contest. I got busy with college and life stuff. You know how it goes.

But I've found some free time this summer, so I thought I would show some of what I've been working on lately.

The title right now is First Fantasy. It's a fantasy (surprise) set in a very paleontologically incorrect ice/stone/bronze age.

Right now, most of the story is finished and I've created about 8 or so PCs with more in the works. Basically just working on graphics.

Here are some screenshots. Everything is subject to change.

World Map

Village

Different area of same Village

Battle against an Ice Age Bison

Portrait of PC pictured in above screenshots. I'm bad with faces, so if anyone has suggestions, I'll gladly listen to them.

I'm not a good judge of graphics, but it looks passable enough. Like the portraits and the bison.

The setting is interesting, looking forward to playing.

I love the stone age theme!

I also like that looks a little more "Quest for Fire" and little less "Flintstones"

Looks good

But I do agree that the portraits could be done over again.

I look at this and can't help but think prehistoric Earthbound. Maybe it's how the bison looks that makes me think that.

Either way, I really like the style and looking forward to more on your project.

That movie was definitely on my mind when I was brainstorming.

Differently how? Are the values bad, or is it their forms/posture/perspective? Maybe a combination of all of them... plus other things?

Try using a more simplictic style for them, maybe more cartoonish.

Although I do really like the original portraits, the new version does seem more consistent with the walkabout style.

Liking the style. Some of the map graphics (like that tree) don't blend well, but for the most part it's easy on the eyes and recognizable.

Yeah, I was getting the Stone Age Earthbound vibe too for some reason. Nice.

I wasn't pleased with the trees either, but to be honest my goal with graphics is what JSH said: "passable."

Still, if something is obviously standing out, then it might as well be fixed, right?

Does this look any better?

This might just be me being picky but, the guy with the blonde hair needs to either have his skin one shade darker or his hair one shade darker. ATM they seem to be near enough the same colour, other than that good job.
