Music Disscussion

I would like to start a disscussion about music, seeing as it isn't already active.

Do you rip music? Make your own? What programs do you use?

I would like to see, in hopes I may find a good program from the community. But of course, you may discuss music here as well.

I use Anvil Studio, and even though I wouldn't call it a "good" program, I haven't found anything better for creating midi's for free. I'm not sure such a program could exist, honestly. Music is too multi-dimensional, and too timing-dependant. What kind of user interface (besides a direct connection from a keyboard or other midi instrument) would allow for easy input of, say, two notes played at the same time, but one of the notes is held for two beats while the other note is actually the first of a triplet over those two beats? Or worse, a triplet where the second "note" is actually a rest?

I generally cherry-pick background music from other games. The music I do make on my own is generally too short to be anything other than stuff like a quest completion fanfare or a victory song.

Oddly, I tend to have a Metroid-type sound when I do compose.
