This thread is for people to share their game ideas and concepts but only in a positive way.
The rules are this:
Game authors/designers can only say positive things about their current game even if they don’t feel those things are 100% true. “This is my awesome game idea....” “Here are sprites/backdrops/screenshots of my awesome game”.
Repliers should only post encouraging responses even if they have to bite their tongues to hold back obvious criticisms.
Not every game is going to look professional, or rival Vikings of Midgar quality but we should encourage all designers to continue their games and at least have a release rather than a perpetual WIP or consistent and numerous abandoned projects.
ALL honest criticism should be held until the final product or at least until a solid demo is released.
Goal: To encourage and push designers to work on their games, finish their games, and have release versions of their games. It is rare that anyone is going to release a perfect game on the first release, but we can at least motivate one another to keep working on our projects.
==================================
Here is a sample of what you could post here (Notice I didn’t use my own game simply because I want others to take advantage of this opportunity before I plug my own game.)
My Current Project: Project Slime
Genre: Fantasy/Science-Fiction/Modern
Rating: G/PG-13/R/AO
Synopsis:
My Game is awesome because it takes place in this world where this happens and this happens because so and so is doing this and the heroes need to do this. While trying to do that they encounter this and that.
Unique Features
My game is different from most games because it has this and features this. (Note: The feature may not be exclusive to your game but is something you added as a special feature or unique system.)
Level Designs Will Include
My game's "levels" will include exploring multiple dungeons, runnining around on world maps to reach the next location, challenging puzzles on each level, lots of combat, lots of story content presented through each level, secrets ect.
Game Characters:
The characters in my game include the following who are unique and well-rounded....
Game Goal
I hope to accomplish this in my game and make it enjoyable because it will include the following ideas, concepts, themes, and/or unique elements.
(You don’t have to reply using this template. This is simply an example of what I might have posted for my own game. )
And remember, for any creative endeavor to come to life there must be hard work and dedication on the part of the creator. Don't wait for inspiration or praise to fall in your lap! Those things will come much sooner if you get down to business and do whatever it is your imagination is telling you it wants to do.
(Inspirational quotes and positive messages are also welcomed as replies to this thread)
(If you think the idea for this thread is really dumb and pointless please PM me your concerns instead of posting them here and we can have a lovely private debate.)
My game for the HotOHR is gonna be awesome cuz I'm putting a lot of time into making the game unique each playthrough. Plus, true to traditional custom RPGness, your character will be (somewhat) customizable, too! This will cause the conversations between party members, minor storyline details, and even the chemistry of the group as a whole!
^Hopefully this appears to be true in the full version, probably due this summer.

Do tell! I love customization options, myself. Those story options you mentioned sound great too. If you can find some way to randomize what characters say to each other while still staying relevant to your game's topics, this will be greatly great.
There will be a human, elf, dwarf, orc, dark elf, and troll in the group. The group you end up in will depend on which of the above you pick. I'm thinking also maybe a psych profile to customize the group further.

Didn't think of THAT... fixing into plans...
EDIT: ^that ugly rectangle is simply placeholding graphics.
Bang, I knew something smelled familiar.

My offer on doing your portrait graphics still holds, by the way. Except we'll probably postpone that until after the OHR Film Contest is over.

Dude! That whole character creation concept looks wicked! I would be excited to play around with that just to admire all the hard work and effort you put into pulling it off.

1984? Yeah right, man. That's a typo. Orwell is here now. He's livin' large. We have no names, man. No names. We are nameless!

Indeed. A game I'm working on lets you choose between some generic mercenary guys, with choice of race/sex/class, but not actual character customization like that. I'm releasing the graphics for it to public domain, and in fact the human race and tileset have been released in HamsterSpeak already. Maybe I'll work on some more of those sprites until the film contest actually begins.
Densetsu no Okami. One of my intentions is to give players as many actual choices that effect dialog trees as possible (think about how in Dragon Warrior 1 you could complete dungeons in basically whatever order you wanted, could decide not to bother with the princess, or carry the princess with you all the way to the final boss). In point of fact, the only in-game relationship that really impacts its chronological sequels is Wolf/Zera, so I'm going to make all the other characters optional.
Maces Wild. This game is about exploring the town and examining/interacting with various objects. The non-optional story part of the game will probably be no more than a half hour total, but I want to put in several hours worth of sidequests and exploration.
Weegee. Not only do I plan on fixing all the bugs I can, I also intend to add alternate routes to the ending and more than one non-hostile NPC to interact with. I'm considering making the boss of any given stage not appear as a random encounter until the next stage, since most people seem to have found that more strange than funny. Also, encounter rate 7 -> 3.
Remeber: God made you special and he loves you very much. Bye!

i've done this in about every game i've made with the RPG Maker 2000/2003, but not to this extent. good show, my boy. struggling with those slices seems to have paid off for you. is there going to be a custom battle system as well?
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy... So here's some lunchmeat... Sandwich, maybe?

More games need customizable parties. The real problem (in my experience) isn't implementing the customization system. It's balancing each race/class.
The game I'm working I'm working on right now has 1 character with 3 selectable classes each with with a variety of potential "builds". I've got to repeatedly play through each section of the game with at least 6 different builds, tweaking their stats over and over again.
On top of that, there are the big design decisions too. Do you make the game difficult and force the player optimize their characters? Or do you make it easy so that players can win regardless of how inefficiently they design their characters?

Awww, I love that character creation system! It looks so cute! I can't wait to fiddle with the options there and test the random generators XD Awesome work! ♥

Wow, You're really going all out... I just used the built in menus for my Character Generator...

Thanks for the input! As far as I'm concerned, the 1.5 games I've released so far were pretty danged lousy, so I need to redeem myself but GOOD. (plus, it doesn't hurt as a portfolio piece. ;D)

Same game. But, Bang, don't it look better? I still make take up your offer on portrait graphics. It'll depend.

Struggling with slices HAS INDEED paid off. And yes, there will be a custom battle system. I know I want something different. I'm just not sure what yet. I kind just want to push the engine to what it, and I, am capable of.

So true. So true, indeed. Balancing the group in battle interaction and vocal interaction will be a challenge, indeed.
On another note, since the interest in this game is way, WAY beyond expected, I'm going to continue the journal. All further questions and comments please be directed there. I seem to be unintentionally hogging the spotlight on this thread.
Well, currently I have put designing my game on hold to rework the story document before continuing, and also to spend more time on my film entry:
This movie will rock! It will assault the senses with it's pull-no-punches, balls to the wall, full-throttle action all set in a closer-than-comfort near future dystopia. Neon Black is a prophetic vision reflecting the dangerous effects of corporate America and overreaching arms of federal government entities.
And after this movie has left you with your jaw dropped, eyes bulging and brain pounding you won't want to miss the action-packed RPG based on Neon Black, Chimera Code.

Dude, this has to rock. It totally has to, because not being radical would be bogus. I give this idea three thumbs up.
