Sorry if this seems redundant, but I just want to clarify: I was planning to manipulate a number of public domain photographs as portraits for my project. Does this rule ban that?

Unfortunately yes, I really am curious to see what this would result in but the rule's the rule.

Okay, since I still have no particular plans for where I'm going with this horror-themed funny animal-casted PG-rated whatever, I'll offer one more selection box.

Location of the horror:
Abandoned mansion with ghosts of meddling kids
Seclusive laboratory of a perturbed scientist
Castle of an old count named Wolfgang Orlok
    Shady dentist's office
Amusement park which wasn't there yesterday

I re-read the rules, and it seems that my plan actually doesn't qualify. Although I was planning on drawing new graphics, 100% of my story script is something I wrote like 8 years ago.

Oh well. I'll still try to do it, but I guess it won't be a contest entry.

I vote Shady dentist's office.

1984? Yeah right, man. That's a typo. Orwell is here now. He's livin' large. We have no names, man. No names. We are nameless!

I've split the crying about the contest rules into a separate thread because it was contributing nothing to discussion and never will and will at best convince newer users that this place isn't worth bothering with. If you've got questions about the rules and want to discuss them, do that here. If you want to talk about how we're ruining artistic integrity somehow do it in the other thread.

Edit: Or better yet, don't. I don't feel like wasting time on trolls. Go back to IRC.

Confused

Sorry, I didn't mean to start up a shitstorm, just wanted some clarification.

Anyway, at least it's clear now. It's going to be tough trying to make portraits that will work in my project as well as the modified ones, but I'll give it a shot.

Your question was fine, and it was asked in a perfectly reasonable way. Sorry it got out of hand after that.

Well, I found my old story notes and I'm working the outline into a script. Basically, I have a location/scene list with description paragraphs. Next step is to extrapolate my notes and ideas since then into a coherent script that I can work from.

If I can't use existing free sprites, this might end up looking a little... abstract. At any rate, I'm focusing more on use of color and contrast (or lack thereof) than pixel art quality, so it should still work.

So I'm looking at the examples... Is it generally accepted to require user input to advance the text boxes? I was under the impression that a "movie" should be fully automatic. At least, that's how I'm planning mine.

Either way is fine. The problem with automatic advancement is some people are guaranteed to find it too slow, others too fast. If you have voice acting attached to each box this won't be a problem since everyone will follow the pace of the actors. Do what you think is best here.
