Preproduction: Heart of the OHR 2012

Now that the Heart of the OHR thread is over 500 posts long, I think it's time to move discussions about Heart of the OHR 2012 to its own thread.

This is essentially the ideas and motivation thread for games that might make it into the next Heart contest. If you have anything you want to discuss regarding the contest or the games you want to enter it (or even a wish list for games you're not directly involved with but would still like to see entered), talk about them here. I am also open to ideas for making the contest itself more interesting/user-friendly. There are no restrictions at this point.

Think of this thread as not only a place to filter your ideas or to make requests for community involvement or whatever, but also as a mini-design journal to keep your development time in check. Are you finding yourself getting exceptionally stale with development? Post here for that swift kick in the development butt.

We want to see entries that trump 2010's games, so give the 2012 contest all you've got.

We'll move to a more exclusive thread once the real contest begins.

My goal is to make Wandering Hamster 100% mouse-playable by the HotOHR2012 deadline... and yes I might make some actual game content for it too :)

So... Wandering Mouse?

I really hope the mouse thing's going to be optional and we'll still be able ot use the keyboard if we want to, though. I've never liked mouse control in games much, especially when it comes to games that have absolutely no reason to use the mouse...

Don't worry. I have no intention of removing any keyboard support. That would be crazy. :)

I will be entering my *unnamed game* that I have been working on. There is but one issue and that is trying to think of awesome things to include in my game that have not been done before ;-;

Anyone who completed Viridia Chapter 2 to its end (0 people, last I checked) will have gotten some information about Chapter 3, which I have deliberately been designing to be different from Chapter 2. I originally wanted to enter them both simultaneously for the last HotOHR, but ran out of time and had to go with the shorter, more complete half.

So anyway, at the minimum I would like to enter Chapter 3 into the next HotOHR. If I have time, I'll go back and redo the beginning, and integrate the completed chapters into one game. Chapter 1's already been done, and some people have played it, but I'm not happy with the storyline and want to rewrite a few dozen things before making it public.
If all goes well, it will feel like a... very long prologue.

Gulp, I just realized how awful that is immediately after typing it. If players manage to complete these three chapters, they'll be incredibly hyped and ready to get started on the real adventure, which I haven't even started on. The immense feel of disappointment would be... oh, man. I need to reflect on this for a while.

Because this was/is an awesome contest, and I'm already stoked for 2012.

No clue what I'll be entering. Assuming Vikings is done, I may try to rework Arcadia and finish it

I'm making it my goal to have the new Collaboration game ready in time for this contest.

Which means, among other things, that it's time for me to dust of my MIDI keyboard.
