Yeah, I have no desire to buy this thing. The games don't look that great for it thus far (go ahead and shoot me for it) but it doesn't look worth the price tag at all. I barely play my DS, and I'm only gonna be playing it again for the new Pokemon games. They said somewhere the next games after Black/White will be on the 3DS, so this will likely be the last generation of Pokemon I play.
Check out Red Triangle Games!
I heard about this a few months ago, actually on a thread SOMEWHERE about PKMN Black/White. I am perfectly happy with my DSi so I prolly won't run out and buy this (250! Sheesh, I would but a PSP first even though I love Nintendo.).
Maybe this is the Wii's sucessor? It has been around for 5 years already, I doubt it will last much longer.
Also, the two-color thing is weird to me. I wouldn't really want it to be two colors, but that is just my preference.

What? No.

EDIT: This isn't meant to be hateful, I'm just kind of surprised to see all this negativity.
Everyone whined about the DS before it came out too. There'll probably be a ton of great games on this system, just like every other Nintendo hand-held so far. $250 doesn't seem that bad to me (iirc the PSP was about as bad at launch), but the 3DS launch titles don't look that great so I'm still going to wait on the 3DS Lite myself. I'm not sure why Surlaw's saying the system looks unimpressive; it essentially looks like a portable ps2 even if it's slightly worse, which is awesome regardless considering it still uses cartridges, and you can't really judge the graphics by screenshots and videos since the screen outputs most of these games in 3D.
Sounds like a decent deal for $250 to me assuming there are good games out. I'll be the first to say the 3D gimmick looks stupid, but honestly I said the same thing about the touch screen and some of my favorite games on the DS use it.
I am not even touching the ridiculous post RMZ just made; instead I'll just list a few pretty good to amazing games on the DS he clearly didn't bother to play (which isn't even comprehensive, just off the top of my head), cause otherwise he wouldn't even be insinuating that the DS is somehow not the best hand-held system to date in terms of quality games released.
- Every GBA game ever
- Ghost Trick
- Again
- Hotel Dusk
- Ace Attorney 1-4
- Final Fantasy 4
- Mario & Luigi 3
- Dragon Quest 4, 5 and 6 (This February!)
- Kirby Super Star Ultra
- Yu-Gi-Oh
- Trauma Center
- Kirby Canvas Curse
- Super Mario 64 DS
- The World Ends With You
- Professor Layton
I have a PSP too, and while I like it, it doesn't have half the appealing titles the DS does despite the DS being an 'inferior' system. Some of these are games I have come back to several times already. Just looking at the history of this and the GBA as well, I have complete faith in the 3DS. I'm not going to be critical of the system before it even has a chance to prove itself.

I have no doubt the 3DS will eventually have a lot of really good games. The PSP and PS3 both started out massively overpriced with very poor libraries, but after a few years they're both great. I complained about their prices at launch, and I'm complaining about this thing's price at launch because, as a consumer, I find a $250 price tag for a handheld offensive. And I'm sorry, I find the graphics extremely underwhelming, which the price tag makes much worse.
If enough good games come out, which they probably will, I'll get it when the price drops. I just think that, as a gamer and a consumer, this is a really, really bad looking launch.
Also, 3D and a touchscreen are not comparable, one is a control interface and one is a visual feature that has an off switch.

I just watched some rather lengthy 3DS videos off the Nintendo Channel, and have picked up these tidbits:
The 3DS has incredible and potent wireless features (one universal friend code, hooray!), which will be rendered completely useless by the current lack of good multiplayer titles. Man, if only Pokemon Black/White or Brawl were compatible with this system.
(if you happen to be a Street Fighter fan, ignore the above statement)
When Virtual Console was addressed by Reggie Fils-Aime himself, he mentioned that Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles would be available for download. I am suspicious.
Also, somehow I COMPLETELY missed this earlier, but the Start and Select buttons have been moved to the bottom of the touch screen. ALSO, don't let the videos fool you! When Reggie held up his personal blue 3DS, it was TINY! Only very slightly bigger than a DSi! If you value screen size, buy a DSiXL, or wait for a 3DSXL if it ever gets made.
I saw more game footage. I can safely say that Paper Mario 3DS, graphics-wise, is squarely between its previous N64 and Gamecube incarnations. I also saw some more footage of the Star Fox and Ocarina of Time remakes; Star Fox, for some reason, looks way better.
The Great Fairy is still ugly as sin!
I COMPLETELY FORGOT, Nintendo is launching an advertising campaign that will put a bunch of public 3DS's into retail stores and public places for all of us to see. They anticipate 1 million people will have tried the system for themselves before the launch date. Since these were Reggie's words, I assume this applies to America.

Without a centralized online play structure (Steam, Xbox Live, PSN) to tell you which friends are on, what they're playing, and easy, quick means of communication from within any game, Nintendo's online play structure is going to remain mediocre at best. Those three services are all great for matching up with your friends for online play. Nintendo not outright copying them is an enormous missed opportunity.
My interest in this system would seriously skyrocket if Nintendo didn't have a half-assed online system this time around. Their support of the Wii Virtual Console in North America has been terrible for the last couple of years and DSWare is abominable.

Surlaw, I think the issue you describe stems from Nintendo's focus on the casual gamer audience. The new One of the new wireless systems (which they actually named street pass communication) appears to be optimized for local wireless communication, which is terrific for games that require very little input and grow with the sheer number of people playing them, like Animal Crossing or Sims or anything having to do with Miis.
This will really help pedestrian-gamers link with each other, but on a global scale, it's worthless innovation.
That being said, I don't know a darned thing about the 3DS's global wireless capabilities.

Releasing simple games with wide appeal is focusing on casual gamers. Throwing out a half-assed online system and giving it absolutely minimum support is being lazy and cheap (just basing that on what they've done with the Wii and DS, and I've seen nothing to convince me the 3DS will do this part any better). Nintendo knows they don't have to try very hard to sell tens of millions of units right now, their brand has way too much value. As a business that's probably the right move. As a consumer it's a whole lot of shit.
If you think there aren't millions of "casual gamers" using these other systems and enjoying online play I don't know what to say. I want to play Nintendo's games with friends that live in other parts of the country without an enormous hassle.

I'm late to the party, but I have to add that I'll be getting a 3DS on launch day for the full price, like it or not, because my wife has been asking for it as a birthday present for the last six months.
As far as DSiWare is concerned: If either of these titles even remotely interests you, I cannot over-recommend Telegraph Sudoku & Kankuro and 24/7 Solitaire. Yes, they are just sudoku/kankuro and card solitaire games, respectively, but the interface on both of them is great and there are 24 different card solitaire games on the latter (plus 7 peg solitaire games, for whatever that's worth -- I haven't touched them). Great games to have in your pocket for when you get bored of whatever's on the cart you're using.

There will definitely be Miis in 3DS games or at least DSWare programs.

There are several Wii elements being carried over to the 3DS, including the channel-selecting Home menu (which can be accessed at any time during gameplay with a HOME button) and the Miis (there's a new option to take a picture of yourself and get an automatically matched Mii - these autoMiis will inevitably be pretty ugly, as the tech demo demonstrated.)
Speaking of which, have I already mentioned the 3D camera? I think I did. Nintendo of America is pushing this product a lot on family-types who accumulate thousands of photos a month, so as to expand their audience and convert everymen into gamers. When you think about it, it's brilliant, because last I checked there isn't a 3D camera of any kind marketed for home use yet.

Aren't there already channels on th DSi? Or are they called something different? There isn't a home button, but pressing and not holding the power returns you to the main menu.
If they are making miis, I hope they add more variety. On the wii, there was no hairstyle that matched mine; the closest it got was the afro or a messy style, and mine is in between. Ah, well.
3D camera? Alrighty.
