i second the second! the way many people draw their battle sprites looks very silly during their little "victory dance". take the characters from Sword of Jade, for example. i wouldn't mind two extra frames. besides, you could always copy and paste if you can't be bothered.

i had this idea too. could be cool to have the attack "rise" from the attacker, and "drop" on the target. or whatever else you plan on doing.
while we're on the topic of battle animations, how about changing the silly looking "scatter" animation to multiple sprites? when i saw scatter, i expected it to look like the opposite of "ring", like an explosion, which is what i intended it's use for. instead, i got a single sprite that flies off in a random direction. if you have the "scatter" attack hit multiple times, the sprite flies around the screen. this is NOT what the word "scatter" implies. we should keep the original scatter, name it something different, and implement a more appropriate "scatter" animation.

Instead of adding a "Rise" death animation, why not implement something like cycle back/cycle forward/oscillate for the death animations?

i think he meant the attack animations themselves, not death animations for the enemies... like the attack sprite rises up from the target, not the enemy rising when they die. although that could be interesting as well.
