I've still got the game sitting around on my hard drive, and I still want to make this thing eventually... I just keep getting distracted from it, or getting annoyed at all the work that goes into making maptiles and taking a break from it. Here's a couple of old screenshots:

A lot of the graphics are going to be redone before I get the game to anything resembling a playable demo, so I figured I'd post some to get some opinions on them, and what needs to change.

The most recent versions of the portrait graphics for some major characters. I'm not really sure I like them the way they are. Using only-slightly-darker skin tones to make the noses probably wasn't the greatest idea, and just like the walkabouts, I don't really like how the eyes turned out... so I'll probably redo these before releasing a demo. Maybe they'll end up looking more like full-color Okédoké-style portraits when I'm done with them.

Here's the hero graphics. The ones on top are the new ones that I made just this past year, while the ones on the bottom are the old ones from 2008 that were just extended versions of the walkabouts and looked kinda crappy...
Eddie Ril, who you start out playing as. Mainly a physical attacker at first, with only one special move (the Blubber Slam, which can stun enemies); he gets his own powers to help him keep up with the rest of the party later on, though.
Joguo Goueng-Zu, a ninja-in-training. Also mainly a physical attacker, though he has a variety of ninja techniques and is a lot faster than Eddie.
Bridget Sticke, who you may recognize from her appearance in the Burger Kingdom during Chapter 4 in Okédoké. She's very fast, has decent attack power, and can use all sorts of powerful magic; about her only weak point is low defense.
Her second-frame attacking animation has no hand visible because the hands (claws, actually) are shown as weapon graphics.
Damuru-J, who's a pretty mysterious character who doesn't remember anything about herself when you first find her. She also has magic, though hers leans more toward defensive/healing spells, unlike Bridget's.
I'm almost finished remaking these, as you can probably tell... I only need to redo the graphics for two more characters before I'm done with them.

And finally... the walkabouts, which will probably be the biggest pain to redo since there's just so many of them (thanks to most NPCs actually being specific people, with only a few generic lookalikes wandering around.)
(Image removed, it had inexplicably been replaced by a picture of four random dudes with surfboards or something... no idea what happened there.)
These are the 2008 versions of some major characters. I don't really like how they look at all--not sure exactly what it is about them but I just don't like them. I think the eyes are part of it, but they're not the only problem... there's just something about them that looks "eh," at least to me.
And these are the walkabouts of the same characters from way back in 2006, in the previous attempt at making a Fnrrf Ygm Schnish game. Overall they're probably worse (the funky left/right walking animation is a big part of it, and also the weird blocky-ish shape of the downward-facing sprites' heads), but there's something I like about them that just isn't there in the 2008 versions...
So here's my main question: what should I do with the walkabouts? I know I'm going to want to redo them, but I'm not sure exactly what the new ones should look like... I'm thinking either like the 2006 Fnrrf Ygm Schnish ones, like Okédoké or Puckamon, or somewhere in between.

EDIT: Don't reply to this, I can't figure out how to get rid of the poll. Will probably post a new thread on this game after this one drops off the front page and I've actually got some new stuff to show (like screenshots that aren't 2 years old.)
