Unfortunate plateau

For some reason, I haven't worked on my Heart of the OHR game at all for the past several weeks. I wish I could blame school, or work... but I don't have a job and my high school classes consist of Senior gym, Band, Junior gym. I hit this point a while back where I had a load of scripting to do for a relatively small amount of playtime, and I just haven't pushed through it. I've done little side things like making music or enemy graphics, and did some slight cleaning (though more needs done, it's VERY dirty, and at this point dusty too). I was wondering if anyone else experiences this and has any suggestions. I read (present tense!) here about updates to various community member's games, and I am still excited about what mine will be. I feel that if I can make myself get past this one plateau, it will be smooth(er) sailing. I will certainly try to pick up myself, but any comments or suggestions would be great. I'm hoping to have 3 to 5 hours worth of story in, but at this rate I'd be lucky to have the lower boundary. Thanks! Smile

It sounds like you're attempting perfectionism at an early stage. Just start working on the next area and come back to this spot whenever you're tired of adding new content.

Although I haven't made a firm decision about this for Heart of the OHR yet, I have been known to offer weeklong bugfixing extensions for the other not-so-annual contest I run (Epic Marathon). If the demand for one is high enough come November 30th, I may do the same for this one. If that's the case, then that may be the best time to go back and iron out this snag of yours.

I've been busy with school. I have three classes right now, which is pretty normal for me, except for the fact that these are all eight-week accelerated classes. Two of them have group projects, and I was assigned the role of leader in one and had to decline the role of leader in the other. My time at home has become doing homework, or free time in which I'm thinking about doing homework. Fortunately, these classes are over in a few weeks, and I only have two classes for the next half of the semester.

I have most of my map data done, but I have yet to write my story beyond the basic plot outline. That means I have no dialog, no scripting, and no game length. I also have no battles, items, equipment, NPCs, original graphics... Yeah, I need a free weekend.

If you can get an hour a day to work on your game (that is, an hour where you're actually in the mood to work on it), and you can plan everything out on paper pretty soon, I think it's entirely possible to have your submission done in time. Split up the remaining tasks into little assignments for yourself, and prioritize them.

Yeah, ditto. Except I'm taking four non-accelerated classes.

And it's not like you're the only one having trouble here. I'm not even SAYING how far I am, as it is rather embarrassing. Just. Keep. Working.

And yeah. I know that's easier said than done.[/spoiler]
