It was apparent to Lao that the life of an adventurer would not be an easy one. He reluctantly cast aside his oath to forgoe the superficial nature of material posessions for now, using his share of the party's loot to purchase supplies and even a couple of magical items that had caught his eye. After having done so, he lodges at cheaply maintained inn in one of the more conspicuous parts of Dunderstank. It seems as though he believes his oath is not outright broken if he pinches his pennies.
While lying in the bed of his room (which smells of rotting wood... and possibly flesh...), he contemplates what has happened to him thus far. He has been betrayed twice in a relatively short amount of time. First by his mentor, Sheng Long. Second, by his late traveling companion, Gregor. Lao did not know if he could trust his current "friends". In fact, he still did not even know their names, save for Cile, a trickster whom he certainly could not trust entirely. Thinking for a short amount of time, Lao concludes that he does not have much of a choice in the matter. He should be safe from them, as long as he offers most of the gold and valuables he finds in return for their cooperation. The lantern's flame flickers out silently as he slips into a dream...
The next day, Lao approaches the tavern with scroll in hand. He was ready for some answers. Still, he could not shake the uneasy feeling he had. What sort of person requires instructions to become gelatinous?
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy... So here's some lunchmeat... Sandwich, maybe?
