The entries are in, and thus, it's time to vote!

VOTING:
As mentioned in rule 4, Voting will be done by anyone who has the will to log on to Castle Paradox or SlimeSalad and post their vote on the official voting thread that will be created at a later time.

It will begin on June 16th, and will end on June 30th.

Games will be voted for, as we have voted for game in many other contests, on a scale of 1 - 10. Every voter is urged to vote for every game.
Your vote post should look something like this:

Seinfeld teaches typing - 2
The Terminator in Wonderland - 7
Not So Super Mario Bros. - 4
Classical Music Rocks - 1

You don't have to vote for every game in the contest, and the final score entries receive will be taken from a combination of the average score it received and the bonus points it earned.

Prizes:

I believe Fenrir-Lunaris has agreed to supply participants with Slimebucks based on their standing at the end of voting.

The participate whose entry has the highest average score at the end of the voting period will receive a custom item from Cafe Press.

Well, the only game small enough for me to download was:

Nightmare on Elmo Street: 2

The game extremely boring, and lacked humor. The battles could all be summed up as "hold spacebar" or "use item". It tries the dark-mystery atmosphere of Duck, but fails. Also, you don't have to kill everybody to win. Just Oscar. I beat the game about four minutes.

Seinfeld Teaches Typing -by: James Paige

I like the idea behind it, but there's no way I'm going to type out an entire transcript for a Seinfeld episode without some incentive. And sound effects would've been nice. I guess this would've been more entertaining if it had some Guitar Hero function where certain phrases typed accurately under a certain amount of time would award you star power. But I don't know if it would've been enough to warrant my typing out the entire script, at least not in a single sitting. I did like the keyword pictures and the Newman typos, though. I really wanted to hear Jerry say, "Newman!" every time I missed a key.

Nightmare on Elmo Street - by: J_Taylor

At first glance this reminded me of a black and white version of the original Ninja Turtles game on NES, but that impression quickly died. I also appreciated the tongue-in-cheek jokes that begin with the title and continue on into his punny pre-strike quips, but they don't mask the fact that this is a disturbing game. And for something so short and simple, I'm surprised by the numerous bugs that plague it, from missing wallmaps and exploitable backsides to doors, to the gradual slowdown that overcame the gameplay (which I'm guessing is more Ypsiliform+2's fault, but still). This could've been better.

Score: 3 out of 10

Star Wars - Episode IV: An OHR Hope - by: Spoonweaver

I found this one more entertaining than the previous two. It's still pretty basic when one considers what it could've been, but I found the character twist hilarious, and I appreciate that someone decided to tell the story from this angle (which sadly didn't change the story at all, but it was still funny to watch the orb tear up the stormtroopers. I also love the classic console gaming feel it had. I enjoyed this.

Who Killed Dinosaur Giant? - by: surlaw

There isn't much I can say about the gameplay, since this was nothing more than a movie, but the production value was fantastic. Great voicework. Surlaw has proven that he's one of the go-to guys for voicework. I thought the characters were quirky enough to fit into a Coen Brothers type story. And it kept my attention throughout. The ending was weak, but that's assuming that a story about a murder in McDonaldland could have a knockout conclusion. Great stuff, nonetheless. Surlaw, where were you during the Who Shot Bob the Hamster mystery contest?

Score: 8 out of 10

Batman & Robin - by: RedMaverickZero

I'll vote on this once it's released, but I'm sure it'll be great.

EDIT: And now it's out. And it is great. The sprites and the menu system are perfect, and I actually like being awarded achievements in games (though I like it more when obscure achievements happen). Nice job, RMZ.

Score: 9 out of 10

Anybody who gets through the entire Senfeld script is a masochistic with nerves of steel. Also, new bonus pictures get really sparse at the end. Also, I disclaim responsibility for carpel-tunnel.

Haven't had time to play any others yet.

Hey, I know Surlaw's out on vacation for a like either a week or 10 days and he expressed to me that he wants to vote when he gets back. Can you extend voting for one more additional week so him, and anyone else that isn't available, can?

VOTES:

Who Shot Dinosaur Giant : 7/10
====================
I really enjoyed this. It was a different type of humor for Surlaw, and the most hilarious aspect of it to me, was that there were some really goofy lines, but because of the way Salom was in this movie, it was dead serious. I laughed alot at this. Surlaw also showed his diversity at voice acting. While the recordings weren't great, they were certainly good enough for an OHR game. Story jumped around a little more than I would have liked. But all in all, it's a good addition to our OHR Movie Library.

Seinfeld Teaches Typing : 3/10
====================
While I admire this game a ton (I've told a lot of my in-town friends about it, because the sheer concept is hilarious), for it to be a winner, it needed some serious additional stuff. In typing tutorials I've played in the past as a kid, you get rewarded as you go, with either animations, or sounds, or something. This was a purely silent game with what looks to be the entire script of a Seinfeld episode.

Nightmare on Elmo Street : 2/10
=====================
Haven't spent as much time with these games as I might have liked. Battles were pretty slow and boring, and I didn't entirely get the concept... I mean, it's Elmo running around killing other characters of Sesame Street?

Star WOHRS : 6/10
=============
So... honestly, I died the 1st time at this because I thought I was Luke. Haha. But the game was fun, and solid. It wound up feeling more like a tech demo than anything else. I liked the shooting system as the Blast Droid, and the flying mechanics were great. I could really see all of the things in Star WOHRS making a really enjoyable and very different type of OHR game. I mean... It was 3D, and the ship moved in perspective. How friggin' cool!

Because I don't really think it's fair, and the rules don't penalize me for not doing it. I won't vote for my own game. I really enjoyed this contest, it's the 1st one I've entered in a long time, and the games are all very different. No one game is even the same genre!

I'll really feel bad if I don't get to vote but it sounds like Batman's the only game that will take any time to play, I don't want any special treatment (I also want the results in the upcoming HamsterSpeak)

Seinfeld Teaches Typing [5/10]
I got up to around where Jerry Throws up, which is 17,000 words, my arms feel horrible must of been really bored to get that far.

Nightmare on Elmo Street [3/10]
Not really interesting, kind of drawn well though. Can't really figure out how to win.

Star Wars [6/10]
I didn't mind it, it was pretty funny and the game play although simple worked well enough.

Who Killed Dinosaur Giant [8/10]
Nice acting, a decent enough plot to keep me watching. I found it was funny. I'm not a fan of this genre but I'm still scoring it this way.

Batman & Robin [9/10]
Really great game, it has challenge and it's complete, Batman takes on all his foes. Has some nice systems to it (aside achievements, yuck) graphics are good. if a future version has sound fx it'll get a 10.

WARNING: I'm going to be brutal.

Sienfeld teaches typing - 3/10

Um... how long was this game supposed to go? I mean, I got past the ENTIRE man on the moon speech, expected some sort of reward or break or SOMETHING, and... I was on to the next one. If anybody else attempts to make something like this, could they put in a menu for break/saving?

Star WOHRs - 6/10

Entertaining. I was VERY impressed by the get-to-the-deathstar level, but the rest seemed kind of lacking. For just the the VERY FIRST LEVEL, I didn't know what to do. I see this guy that looks like a Jedi, so I think that's me. Then I find out I'm controlling the circle-thing, so I think I'm trying to commit suicide by running into the Jedi. Oops. Guess he's not a Jedi. Now what do I do? My brother got to the end before me, commenting that the beginning was the most confusing. Oh yeah, and the blow-up-the-deathstar level was kinda sudden.

Who Killed Dinosaur Giant? - 7/10

Nice story. I cracked up quite a few times, and I thought it was very imaginative. I'm not quite sure why I'm not voting it higher. It just felt like a 7.

Nightmare on Elmo Street - 4.5/10

Yeah, the game's not great. Only three tracks for the entire thing, the intro was LOUSY, and there were tons of bugs. But, factoring in the facts that: 1. It was my first solo game; and 2. I had three days to work on it; I think it was a reasonable entry.

Batman and Robin: 8/10

Haven't played it yet, but as I am a huge Batman fan, and love the artwork so far, this is my rating.

@Surlaw: Well, you can always just vote for the games you do end up playing, it doesn't penalize a game to be skipped. I'd rather release the results in hamspeak, than extend it just out of reach of the next issue. I mean... it's your magazine, so.... I don't really know what I mean.

Who Shot Dinosaur Giant : 7
I enjoyed the show, but on the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the OHR Movie craze. This is a game contest after all. Other then that I really think you did a good job. I was thoroughly entertained.

Seinfeld Teaches Typing : 7
Best concept ever! Best theme ever! I'm glad I didn't stay with Seinfeld myself! Pretty boring game play though.

Nightmare on Elmo Street : 6
It seems to be becoming a habit of ohr developers to make games in black and white ( or black and green ). I dislike this trend. The novelty of the game's lack of color is normally, quickly overtaken by the noticeable lack of effort put into the game because of this. Also, the concept of finding invisible, hidden items that you need to kill each person with is kinda silly. The game play wasn't really engaging. It basically just felt like it was taking up time. I did enjoy playing this game.

Batman and Robin: 10
Impressive! This game really has alot to it. The equiping system is awesome. The MegaMan-ish way in which you pick your stage is cool (woulda been cooler if it was an actual mega man menu). The graphics were really great, I loved the textbox borders. The dialog was well written, and I would have loved for it to have had voice-overs. (maybe in the future?) I would be more upset with "some" peoples' votes for this game who haven't played it yet, if I didn't think they'd give it the same score anyways. ( though I suspect it would be higher )

There are maybe 10 OHR movies in existence. How does this constitute a craze?

The feedback you guys have given from your votes has been awesome. It kinda makes the 2 weeks I exhausted myself completely worth it (anyone that has read my Live Journal knows this). I really appreciate your feedback, and would love for someone to let me know when they finish the game, and if they get the secret ending.

I did want to do voice acting, but I wanted to finish the final area, and balance everything. I'm sure I will update the game later with battle sound effects, and proper voice acting to make the game as complete as I can. And resolve any bugs that may surface from you guys playing. It really was a lot of fun making this game.

The feedback I'm getting is quite disappointing.

Did NOBODY read the README???

I said quite explicitly in there that the game was made over a period of THREE DAYS. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it wasn't that bad for a three day game.

And to answer the four-color comment; that was just a stylist choice to make it look like a film noir/B-movie horror film.

So... If I made a uber-update, would anybody play it?

I'm going to level with you here. The fact that you made the game in three days doesn't have any effect on the experience people have playing it, and nobody is going to cut you any slack in voting because of it. Remember that everyone in the contest had several weeks to work on their games, so only spending 3 of them working on a game isn't much of an excuse. Besides, some good games have been made in 2 days, and plenty of bad games are the results of years of work (my first game, for instance, took me well over a year to make and it was horrible). I'm only picking on this argument because you basically made the same one in the RGC.

If the time you had to work on the game is what hurt the game's quality in your eyes, then perhaps you should consider spending more time on your games in the future. It's good that you recognize this is a flaw, but I sincerely doubt anybody's going to hand out bonus points because your schedule was hectic. Learn from it and move on; you can make better games and you know it. No artist is ever completely satisfied with his work; that's why they keep making more.
