I know I've done nothing for the past few years game-making wise, but this contest keeps calling to me. I've been slowly working on my game's system and world and doing plotscripting tests to see if the type of game I want to make is feasible. (The game definitely is an RPG, but the battle system and movement system are quite different from the typical JRPG formula.)This seems like the kick in the pants I need to get it off the ground.

I won't request a bug-fix because I have a history of entering contests and bailing, but I want to tentatively put my game in the running.

Well, it's July 1st somewhere, so I'm officially opening the window now. Any new RPG, continuation to an old RPG, or remake of an old RPG is permitted for this contest, so design your game to your heart's content. Remember, the goal is to bring back the "Heart of the OHR," so if you need an idea what that means, play some of the OHR games circa 1998-2002 for some examples (but feel free to use today's plotscripting to make it modern). Operation: OHR is a good resource for finding out which games were released back then; Castle Paradox and The Hamster Wheel should have all of those games available for download.

Remember, the window closes the morning of December 1st, so you have five months from now to get your projects in order. Don't procrastinate if you want to stand a chance at winning.

Also, you may enter as many RPGs as you want, but you may only claim one bug ransom (unless James states otherwise). If you haven't claimed your bug or feature request yet, do it soon, because the probability of it getting squashed in time goes down with every day you wait, and the price of the ransom goes down with it.

You may post your entries in this forum, or the sister forum on Castle Paradox. On December 1st, I'll scour each post for your entry, so don't worry about it getting swallowed up. I'll build a list of entries once I've found them all. You may update your game as many times as you want during the window, but only the version online as of December 1st will be counted. Posting early at least gives players a chance to form their opinions early.

Comments on early-release games are permitted here, but refrain from posting a score until December 1st. You are more than welcome to record your votes in private, though. This may make it easier to keep track of each game come voting time.

Be aware that voting will be based on an average score, so games that only get five votes won't be at any disadvantage to the ones that get twelve votes. Scores will be rated from 1 - 10, with 10 being the highest.

I think that covers it. Have fun.

Zow, December 1st? This whole time I thought I had until August or something. Well, that's a relief. Time to work even harder!

Also, I've been checking the HeartBugs page on the wiki from time to time, and I haven't seen my bug put up yet. So, a repost. I want...

Sorry I have been slacking about updating the HeartBugs page. I have been pretty busy with real life lately.

If I missed anybody else, please let me know (or just edit the wiki)

Dang, that's like the most basic wiki-rule and I forgot all about it. Sorry, James!

I don't want to mess anything up by updating the page, so I'll just restate my feature I guess!

I was hoping you could update the hero list, and preferably more(maybe even all of the major ones!) on the custom editor so that you can scroll through on more detailed pages. Similar to how you can scroll through tiles WHILE setting them on the map, rather than go back and forth over and over again. An example would be with hero stats, to be able to use the ">" and "<" keys to navigate through while on the stats page so you don't have to memorize or write down stats when comparing them to an "average" character, and then go back and click so many buttons and arrow keys to get to where you want to be. Using the two keys listed above would save much time and finger strength in almost any menu, especially the attack menu and hero/enemy stat menus, in my opinion. So, if anything, those three menus would be nice to be updated in such a way, if not all of them!

My game is un-named(for now), but I have enough to probably release a two-hour-ish demo when I figure out how to (and update some text to indicate that the demo is over). Or if anyone wants to baby me through how to do so, that'd be fantastic also! (that'd isn't a real contraction? Man, that raises questions...)
You can't fix stupidity.

So, uh, how's anybody feel about including the best three games in a sort of "demonstration/Introduction pack" to be downloaded and advertised on the wiki (and maybe elsewhere)?

also, will there be any sort of penalty for those that are just extending/enhancing games? Or will the only content being judged be that added content? It seems kind of unfair to make full blown games that have had an eternity to be made compete with the shorter, made-from-scratch games being made just for the contest.

Edit: Also, about the increase in elemental bitsets; if you do this could allow the number to be adjusted? Scrolling through 32 Elements would be tedious, and 64? Zombie

Extending is cool, view the first post for info on that; Fen is entering VoM, infact quite a few people are just extending, I think the only major thing you need is roughly 1 hours worth of new content (if it's ever been released).

Also if James is busy and can't update the HeartBugs page, PM me your game names and requests and I'll maintain it for him. (Well apart from the Bounties Angel )

It actually only needs about 30 minutes of new content, but there should at least be some documentation about which content is new so that the voters aren't misled.

Yes, extending is fine. This can include extending current content (like what I've done with Powerstick Man--which won't be finished in time for this contest, just for the record), or adding chapters to an existing story. The main rule is that it has to be new. Where you put the new content is up to you. Just include a readme that mentions which scenes are new or extended.

Announcing again, for the first time, Legendary Heroes.

This was the first game I ever made with the OHR, but it got tragically deleted. I'm bringing it back, now with digitally remastered graphics!

Oops, completely forgot to mention which game I'll be working on for this.

I'm going to try and finish Okédoké!... or, if I'm not able to get it finished, at least get a solid chunk of Chapter 6 done before this is over. But considering the amount of time I have, I should be able to get it finished.

Thanks to an inspirational article in this month's Hamsterspeak about newbie games I've been inspired to work on my entry.

I've gotten a lot done and it's finally starting to look like a game instead of a jumble of graphics, stats and scripts.
