Yes, Heart of the OHR 2 will begin on June 1st, 2012, and run until November 30th, 2012, so get started now if you want to submit something awesome. The rules will be nearly identical, except for one caveat:

Why the year long gap? Why not start it in 2011, and make it yearly?

I spent all day yesterday traveling, then had internet troubles when I got home. Short story: I will have something downloadable later today, and it will strongly resemble the state of the game as of a month ago. I hope this is acceptable or something close to it, as I have had no real way to upload the game since last Tuesday.

I am excited by all of the Quality Products that this contest has produced! It is with no bitterness that I say this is one contest I look forward to losing.

@Fenrir
Haha! I am glad the Zoidberg name lives on!

@Spoonweaver
I am sure there will be other contests to fill in 2011. (I know I am planning a little one) and Heart of the OHR is such a giant multi-month contets that it makes sense to me to spread it out more-than-yearly

@Mogri
You lucky devil, I did most of your request already, in spite of you missing the deadline ;)

@Everybody
I have a hunch I will be paying for a good many of these bounties, because I will be very lucky indeed if I can finish all the contstant's requests before my deadline

I'm going to make a zip file of all the contest entries and seed it as a torrent, if anyone's interested.

I'll try and whip up a game list too.

You might want to wait until the grace period is over for that!

So any first impression on any of the entries yet?
Or are we waiting for the voting thread after the grace period?

I haven't played all the games yet, but of the ones I have played (not counting Motrya):

Guo's game - 5/10 - Excellent start but there's not much there. With some updates I could see this bumping up quite a bit.

Skyfall - 6/10 - Needs some rebalancing, but I loved what was there and hope he makes more. Pretty good dialogue, and the pace is brisk.

Viridia - 7/10 - I'm kind of disappointed, but it's not all Baconlabs' fault. He tried to do lots of interesting stuff with the battles but the OHR could just barely handle them. Pacing seems off, but it's not too bad. I had to stop playing after a bit and hadn't had a save opportunity, so I'll have to replay it some time.

Chronoboy Adventures - 3/10 - Lots of weird, complicated scripting, it looks like. It crashed on me shortly after falling down a hole. The visual style is really weird.

Tales II - 4/10 - I don't like the visual style. The prose seems really... Tolkien-oriented? Like a fantasy novel, sort of. I didn't get too far in to this one yet, but I really wish the NPCs moved around during dialogue or something. Lots of long text boxes that seem somewhat dense.

THESE ARE NOT VOTES YET; THEY ARE INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

I am actually kind of interested in hearing the justification for whoever rated Motrya 1 star, but I suppose I can't please everyone rite.

Oh, what I meant was, I'm sure they had a good reason. I'm interested more for the benefit of the project.

@JSH:
Thanks for the first impressions! I really do mean to play some of these games, but I don't think I can before I actually test my own and fix the stupid things I forgot at 3:30am last night. I've already found a handful of them... terrible.

Yeah, I made this game to take place in a Tolkien-stylized world. The elves and wizards talk Tolkien. Men and dwarves can kinda go whatever way. The place you start the game is THE head school of the the High Elves, 700 years or so before Tales 1, so I did conciously try to give a bit of that feeling. Some other places are considerably lighter. But yeah, the visual style is pretty consistent, haha.

@guo:
I would VERY much appreciate waiting until the grace period is over before putting the package together.

@everyone:
If you are playing Tales 2, it should be safe to ignore all of those script warnings about items - I commit a lot of weird voodoo stuff to make the individual item menues work. But if something doesn't work the way you expect it to, please do let me know. I'll be taking out the script warning things in the bugfix release, naturally.

I forgot to mention I was getting equip menu crashes... glad to know I can ignore them for now.

Speaking of entries, are we judging only the NEW content of re-releases? It seems weird to have Vikings and Okedoke judged by the same merits as the rest is all I'm saying.

Same here haha. I hope to get an upload with the more drastic ones fixed by this weekend. (I'm pretty sure an entire tile layer is missing somewhere...)

All HotOHR entries compiled in one nifty zip file, and clearly labelled as pre-grace period.

I gave it 1 star!! lol

I got upset because I couldn't download it. Only now did I noticed the download link in the description. I'll rerate soon. Lol my bad.

Skyfall - I really liked this. However, like the description says it's buggy and not finished. I wasn't really sure when it was over. The white maptiles in the town seemed like the end, but then I got to the cave and fought the spider so it was a bit vague as far as demo endings go.

Viridia - Long winded. This felt more like a who killed dino giant or house heroes type game. The only thing setting it apart from those games were the battles, but the battles were really buggy. I think this might be better as a battleless story piece.

Chronoboy Adventures - clunky but functional graphics to begin with. then once falling in the hole, I examine the harp about 30 times and finally get teleported to ultima land. The graphics all seem ripped here. A lot seems to be going on, but it's hard to really make out what exactly is happening. Fights are all murderous.

Tales II - clunky graphics but they work, and they seem original so Good stuff. A bit long winded at first, but not really a problem at all. I didn't really understand where to after i got the other 2 members of the party. Needs more direction.
