Cards are a very strong possibility, though your ideas are not. That sounds like another game altogether. If Legendary Heroes does get a card game it will be small, like lyte snap, and you'll play it only in certain places. (Like bars or INNs).

The general idea I have for the game is Dominion meets Mtg meets Chess. It's a lofty idea and so I might not be able to cram it into the game before HotOHR 2: The contest that kills you.

As far as naming HotOHR 2, I just can't see myself taking the naming process seriously. If it was truly up to me it would be called, HotOHR 2: The One Legendary Heroes Wins. Or.. left to think about it I might come up with something like HOHR2: Typhoon Explosion. Which is actually the title I almost ended up sending you Pepsi as my favorite. Anyways, I suppose I have a while before The Dreaded HotOHR2 so I'll just keep thinking for now.

And even though the card game might not make it into the game any time soon I am working on another mini game like feature right now. And if you look hard enough you might be able to see a clue or 2 in the screenshots I've posted already.

Was semi-joking about the card game stuff, of course. That big meanie Shizuma thinks I was being rude. He thinks you are too, I kid you not. What is with him? So angry all the time. Anyway.

Looking forward to the update and following your hot ohr 2 adventure, path to victory road. I'd suggest sticking to your guns and making the best parts even better.

OK, so today I mainly worked on the forest area where you get your third party member. Progress has been slow due to my focus on some of the smaller details. I hope this area turns out good, the idea seemed easy to do in my head but once I started actually doing it, things were harder to do then I thought they'd be. I do think I pulled of a really neat script though. Well anyways, that's all I really did in Legendary Heroes today.

So, Ludum Dare. It's not over yet but I know I didn't win. I kind of knew I wasn't going to win from the get go though so it's no big deal. It was cool to enter though. I'm glad I was able to create something half way presentable even though I only had a total of like 4 hours to work on it.

I've also been posting on my blog.
http://spoonweaver.blogspot.com/
I started up a Mspaint adventure type thing there similar to my The Forest of Steve thing that I was doing until my web provider apparently stopped offering the package I had with them. (Lost all the site's files..) Anyways, hopefully I'll at least get the small amount of followers my other mspaint adventure thing had.

On to current OHR projects:
Legendary Heroes is going smoothly. I don't really have a new pic to show because a lot of what I've been doing is stat and attack based. Biff's Throw Spear attack has been taken away to make room for a series of element based spear attacks that he now wields. I did this because a lot of monsters will have different weaknesses and strengths to certain elements. However, as things stood I was going to have only 1 character being able to do any sort of elemental damage. So, I took another look at the characters' special attacks and decided to complete change Biff's and modify the other's.

Names:
It's been a problem for a while now, but with the Ludum Dare entry sharing a name with one of my better games I believe it's time to really address the issue. My games don't have very original names. Even Tim-Tim is a fairly common name. When I google Slimes!, or Legendary Heroes my games don't come anywhere near the front page. So, I've decided to rename both of these games. Slimes will receive the name change after I update it with things like a fast button, and full mouse control. And Legendary Heroes will have a new name by HotOHR2.

Well, slimes I might agree with your bold sarcastic statement. Legendary Heroes has way too general of a name. After learning of an anime with almost the exact same name exist, I figured I'd be better off switching to a more unique name. I'm not sure what though, it might be Legendary Heroes: With a sub-title after it.

I didn't fair too well in Ludum Dare. Oh well.

Legendary Heroes is still being developed on a semi regular basis. I've shown a couple screenshots of what I've been up to on the SS IRC but I suppose I should put them here too.

But first, this is the picture from the hype thread.

Here we see what used to be the cave where a player could obtain the magic nut that lets you grow a tree. The cave has been replaced with a temple. These are the basic tiles I'll be using for the other temples in the game.

I also have a picture of the forests I'll be putting into the game. I'm not sure if this one has been on the forum, but I did post it on the irc.

I've also changed how the random battles work. There are still random battles but they are really secondary to the npc monsters. Think of the npcs as minor mini bosses. Here we see the some slimes walking around.

I've also finally found someone to replace the smashing pumpkins. Now the game will actually have original music.
Here's a sample of the guy's work.

That song is great! Even if it's a midi V

The perspective on things is questionable. Most notably the round columns in that spikey dungeon. It's a common problems because we tend to draw our characters as if we're looking at them from the side, but our maps as if we are looking at a downward angle.

The cave, maybe if you only use one tile for the wall it would help. Otherwise, have to continue my encouragement of having 'free-range' walking or to speed it up. Or talk to Harlock about dungeon design. Want to see you rock this thing.

And the girl with the glasses seems like a boring character Sad where's the lumberjack?!

Hmmm, well I chose midi's on purpose. Glad you liked it in any case.

I can kind of understand what you mean, but I'm not 100% sure I really follow your idea. In any case I agree that those columns need some work.

Sad I'm sorry you don't like Myrtle.
And the Lumberjack is actually already in the demo. He's a villain, which should come to no surprise really.

Spoon spoon spoon. My good Spoon,

- The top of the columns need to be more circle than oval to fit the perspective.

- We discussed the cave issue in irc, but to pry further: hope there's some theme/interest to it cause rpg caves are known to be the least-interesting places imaginable. It's right up there with... well, see your forest pic.

- Lumberjack was my hero. I have to rethink everything!

- The point about Myrtle is more of her dress. Functionally sound, but without personality. Green shirt and purple dress--who is this overdressed generic NPC following my hero? Where's the leather and belt straps? Do you even play rpgs???

Oh, I see. Yes I agree, and I had actually drawn them that way at first.
I don't really liked these collumns. They just aren't working. The way I drew them doesn't really match the rest of the tile maps, they function weirdly and they basically look bad. I'm taking them out.

You don't like my forests? I worked hard on that tall grass script... Sad

Yea, he's a very minor character in Legendary Heroes. No real way around that. I only happened to use his sprite for deforestation. But, Legendary Heroes is in no way Deforestation the game.

Poor Myrtle. She's suppose to be a nerdy type. Dressing her up in neat outfits would defeat the whole idea behind her. In case you didn't notice from the main character, Legendary Heroes doesn't have the usual cast of characters an RPG normal has.

ANYWAYS! On a non-charbilenitpickingmygame topic, I've been working on the fishing script for the game and have run into a bit of a writers block with it. On the one hand I was thinking of setting up a Pokemon like select button, letting the user select an item that they can use at any time by pressing a button. This would be helpful for not just the fishing rod, but also the Lute, and Orb that are already in the game. I didn't, however, realize the amount of effort this would take when I was thinking it up, and even though I think it would be neat, I think it also might not be worth it. So, I've begun thinking of a different approach. This would just be the player going and useing the fishing spots like an npc. The fishing rod would be used automatically, and I think a lot of the fuss would be taken out of it. This method would also work with the orb, but doing it with the lute, (which sumons the turtle) would be a bit more work and so I think this method would see the lute staying the way it works now. (only from the item menu)
I'll prolly be going with method 2.

Also, I've disgussed it a bit in the IRC so I figured I'd cover it a bit here. The current story for Legendary Heroes, isn't just Biff going from town to town doing odd jobs. I can kind of see how one might think that after playing the demo, but the game is only starts off like that. As the game progresses, Biff finds himself in the depths of a world threatening event that he has to play a role in. Will he be able to stop the evil monsters' plot, or will he fail? Only the player can truely answer that.

Tragedy!

A couple days ago I returned home to find my computer not working. After trying to turn it on for a while and then opening it up to see what was wrong I finally discovered that my cat had chewed the power cord enough to make it unusable (bad kitty). It wasn't until I got a new cord today that I realized the computer itself had been damaged in the process of the cat's chewing. ( thankfully the cat is ok)
Finding my harddrive not responding, my thoughts quickly turned to my backedup files. I hadn't been backingup my files like I should have been and my backups were from months ago.
The main 2 files that were effected by this were Tim-Tim2 and Legendary Heroes.
Tim-Tim2 is now back to the way it had been for more than a year. Stuck in a strange series of scripting bugs that, even though I fixed them all just a while ago, I don't remember how to fix. I know I can fix it up but my drive on this game is now completely shot.

Legendary Heroes has lost an entire continent. The new skills and overall battle balance system is all back to the way it was too. Thankfully all 4 main heroes are still done. Though 2 of them need their portraits again. My drive on Legendary Heroes isn't as dead as my drive for tim-tim2 but it's still pretty weak. Hopefully I'll be better inspired come the beginning of..

Oh no! :( I'm flabbergasted to hear that your cat killed your harddisk. Maybe we should add that one to the backup reminder message in Custom!

Since you mentioned script bugs, I might as well mention in case it helps that compiled .hs files (and thus .rpg files) contain your original script source.

Lame on the Legendary Heroes front. That was my favorite game of 2010, and one of a handful I really want to play again.

Maybe the developers could consider (if it's even possible) to allow an optional "Save To" feature that allows you to save the game to multiple sources, including backup folders and backup e-mail or upload services. Perhaps that would curb unnecessary file loss in the future (more than the red screen of warning already does). Then we don't have to suffer needlessly.
