I think, way back when, I had the idea of the everyone being "director" of a segment, rather than working on it alone. That's probably the best way to do it, because it gives the thing a structure, and sidesteps the problem of everyone wanting to direct.

We'd also need one Main Director for the overall game, but that could maybe be thought of collaberatively.

What we need to do, is have 70%+ of the game planned out before anyone opens custom.exe.

THIS is how you get things done. One person should be in charge of all the graphics, and they should ideally have the majority of them done before you realistically start working. If you've got one person just doing maptiles and backdrops to help out, your work will go much faster. A third person should concentrate on making music, while a fourth writes the dialogue/scripting and places the art and music into the game. EVERYONE then playtests, and by consensus makes changes to the battle system/difficulty.

Incidentally, I've no interest in participating, but if you need to use graphics I've already done, have at 'em.
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.

This is starting to sound more like an actual game production team than a collaboration.
We can always find ways to make being in a production team sound fun!

Emphasis on this part because it is true. Random improvising can only get you so far. It might also help build immunity to demo-itis.

Okay, uhhh I guess were going to start the planning process fairly soon on the collaberation forum. Again, anyone is welcome to join, but I wont make anyone work on it if they join and dont want to.

Chances are I'll have momoka be doing alot of the directing, if hes up for it.
Blip.

Which of these concepts, which I just posted in the Collab subforum, would you guys be most interested in? Which have potential?

In the old west, honest hard work is being replaced by newfangled steampunk robots. Team up with a collection of American folk heroes to end the age of iron men with a bang. Paul Bunyan in a lumberjack race versus a 50-foot tall lumberjack robot as the finale!

Time travelers accidentally get a young Adolf Hitler into art school, and in order to prevent a universe-destroying paradox have to talk him into dropping out of school and becoming Fuhrer! It's Back To The Future meets Maus!

Angels and Demons fight the final war, and with God MIA, it's up to a team of engineering students to stop Armageddon.

Monsters made of light. They come in through your eyes. If you see them, they can kill you. They can hide in the light of a lover's eyes. It's up to a secret government agency known as Object Handling and Recon to find a way to defeat them.

An inexperience rookie joins the Superheroes Union, and find that all but a handful of them are lazy or corrupt. He vows to create an real team of superheroes, who do good in the world, and actually FIGHT the bad guys more than once a year. (I actually really want to do a Superhero game...)

The player is a god setting out to find why reality is ceasing to exist. He finds that the very concept of nonexistence has come alive, and is consuming even the infinite realities.

A spaceship crashes in the Wesuni Star Cluster, and the astronauts on board have to make use of their limited supplies to find a way to survive.

Alternatively, the Starship Rhone suffers from a massive explosion while exploring the Fomhar system. The survivors need to either fix the ship, repair the comm system to call for help, or make it to the escape pods. But the ship has crashed into a Time Junction, and the survivors find themselves getting shot through spacetime, seemingly at random, only to return and be forced to continue, less they be forever trapped in time.

Superhero, monster, and "time junction" quickly caught my attention.

I can volunteer for graphics. I think I'm pretty good...

This reminds me a bit of Mother 3, but I'd be cool with it. I've got some graphics and designs I could work with for towns and maps.

This one also sounds cool.

I'm not part of the team so I have no say in this, but I just want to say that i like the Cowboys Vs. Robots story best... with the minor variation that I would tell the story from the point of view of the Robots, with the anti-progress Human cowboys cast as the villains.

If it makes any difference (since it looks like I showed-up too late and you already have a game idea), I have a game that's more than halfway finished in terms of design and story if you're interested.

Basically, I have finished the first and fourth of what I think will be a four part story. I've done a lot of work on gameplay elements and ways to implement them, and I still have graphics left over from the "get it over with so you can feel like you've accomplished something" demo I posted on Castle Paradox.

If nothing else, the story is designed for the game to be released in parts if need be until the whole thing is finished, and the first part is more or less ready to be developed. Sadly I run into the same time constraints that everyone else seems to have, too, so it may be awhile until I'm able to release the first part by myself.

Even if you're just curious to see what I'm working on, let me know. I guess I could start-up a game journal about it, but it seems premature since I've done very little work in Custom compared to what I've done with pen and paper.
