The #Castleparadox IRC Channel we have now is rarely used to discuss the OHR, although that is mostly because everyone in the channel isn't actively making a game, at least not while they're online. However, about once a month or so someone will show up with an OHR related question and we'll do our best to help them through it. #CP has become more of a hangout spot and hub for us to play games from, and we all know each other pretty well because of that.
I'm all for the idea of Ventrilo chat, though. But if that doesn't pan out for whatever reason, everyone is more than welcome in #Castleparadox, and it'd be nice to have productive OHR-related conversations happening again.

OHR related conversations in #CP? Whats this world coming to?!
But, in relation to the vent server. I think that if there was some kind of easy click link to it, then it might be used. (This is the only reason I log on #CP)
However, I'm imagining the vent server to be empty a lot of the time, and it being slightly annoying to go about the process of checking to see if anyone is on and talking.
Also, hearing people's voices kills the internet experience/
I think the main issue is whether or not the server will be frequented. If we could get a significant number of people enticed about any chat client, Ventrilo or otherwise, that'd be a huge step forward.
That's also very difficult. The only possible hype-maker I can think of is some kind of publicity maneuver. Official sponsorship from James or Fenrir, whose names are seen the most, or a plug in HamsterSpeak, the OHR webazine seen the most.

I'd be cool with it as long as more than two people were in it most of the time.
When I get OHR problems, I usually struggle around for a while before trying to post a forum topic.
Then by the time I finish my post, I realize the main problem and it gets fixed.
I've tried IRC on a few occassions, but just can't get used to the interface (and something always goes wrong when I tried).
But yeah, I could personally find some use for this.

We discuss OHR stuff quite a bit in #jsh, but normally game-making people don't hang out too much in IRC.

I would be willing to try. The idea of voice chat sounds kinda nifty. But it looks like Ventrilo doesn't have a Linux client yet, so I will have to sit it out for now

It doesn't necessarily have to be Ventrilo. There are alternatives to it, such as Mumble, that run on Linux, Max, and Windows.
I'd respond to everyone but I don't quite have the time right at this second. Keep the thoughts coming and I will get back with you guys on responses.

I'm still down for it. I guess at this point I need to look into a solution for both Linux and Windows users. As I said before, Mumble should work for all the above, but I've never used it before. I'll check it out some more next week and let you know what I come up with.

I'll definitely check it out, but won't be able to start up the server until Thursday most likely. I'm hoping that James will be able to post information about it on his site, as well as SS and CP. I think that it could be a really nifty help/social tool and perhaps be an occasional place to channel boredom while working on your games.
Regardless, I'm excited about it
