New game: ShadowWALKER

Okay, so due to an excellent suggestion by Pepsi Ranger, I am now making a game journal. Partly because since this IS the first game I'm making, I want plenty of feedback to make sure I'm doing a good job. It's also partly because I'm hoping this will provide me with at least a few people to keep bugging me to actually finish it.

So the game's about this teenager/young adult who pours out his story in the intro. He was captured by mysterious scientists (forgive my uber-cliche way of giving the storyline), who turn biologically mess with him, turning him into the ShadowWalker - meaning he can turn his body into shadow, pass through walls and other solid objects (due to the ability to become a shadow).
He decides on revenge, and, once he escapes his chains at the very beginning of the story, decides he's gonna kill the guy in charge there. Only, the guy in charge there ISN'T the main guy who controlled everything. Throughout the game, Shadow - as he begins to refer to himself - tries to make his way to the main guy. When he finally does, though, he finds out his unique abilities are due to being infused with demon blood, and that the only way to break himself from this is to kill the demon whose body supplied the blood. Game 1 ends as soon as Shadow walks through the portal to hell.

So far, all I've got is the main screen, half-done intro movie screens, and half-ass first map. Re-working both that and the walkabout graphics. I'd post the main screen, but I think I need to have it online already. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Scratch that last question. Got a photobucket account. Here's the main screen:

Oh yeah. I also have really lousy walkabout graphics that WILL be updated.

Here's a screenshot of the Holding Center as of right now. Still have to update the walls, not happy with the shadows off the left, and thinking about putting lava down below in the pits there.

Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated, as this is not only my first game, but the first I'm going public with.

Can't really say much about the graphics at this point. I'll wait until I see a little bit more of it before I suggest anything.

I think I can safely say a few things on the plot though. I'm assuming you're going for a semi-serious game? If so, you really need to think about plot holes and such. First off, why would one be pissed about having the ability to pass through solid objects?

Chains? Are these anti-shadow chains? If the man can pass through solid objects, why would this hold him down?

Don't take this the wrong way, you can do whatever you want in your game. But if you plan on having a "serious" plot, you need to think about what, where, and why things happen a certain way. Yourself and future players will appreciate the game a lot more if that is the case.

Let me start by saying that this IS supposed to be a serious game. But you brought up a couple points that I probably should clarify in both the game and here.

It's not fully him when he 'goes shadow'. He can tell he doesn't have complete control. This is because when he 'shadows', the demon blood is infusing him with his sire's feelings, but not to the same degree.
I'm highly considering messing with the idea of having a wondering-if-he's-crazy undertheme - except I'm not sure how to do this.

Sedative drugs. This is the reason he does escape when the sedative drugs drop off for a moment due to temporary power outage. The reason for this is an attack on another part of the facility, which is explained more fully in part 2.

Thanks for asking these questions, though. I realized that they're not exactly explained in the actual game either as of yet. But, as I'm not that far into development, it's not too hard to put these pieces in.
