And it's now available on Slime Salad.

The newest update finishes Chapter 1 the way I had intended last March.
The yellow sand is gone forever, replaced now with traditional coquina-like sand. The empty items, the Glass Bottle and Journal, are now functional. The Anthill Canyon has more landmarks to interact with, and to essentially help you navigate better. The end of chapter status report now includes all activity between the hyena fight and the entrance into the Scorched Valley. And that's not all.
Cut scenes are now displayed in widescreen format.
Portraits now assist dialogue.
Intro is updated, and includes Camdog's extended version of the main theme. Even if you watched the intro last time, please watch it again. A lot of work went into making it better.
Glass Bottle allows you to make up to 27 new items, including weapons.
And more...
So go download the update and be sure to leave comments. This version was eight years in the making, and I'd like to know if it was worth the wait.
Thanks.

I'm planning on playing this as well. Haven't had a whole lot of time to mess around recently but I will get to it eventually.

Wait, already?!
This blows my mind. I couldn't make a single item with my limited inventory, but granted I wasn't being very experimental. And I didn't want to give up key weapons and accessories (and water) just yet.
This is shameful, I'm a Chemistry major and I couldn't make a single solution in a computer game. I will go back and try again.
EDIT: Anthill Canyon seems about right in terms of difficulty and navigation, so long as you have landmarks and lipstick. I feel like there's too much the player might miss out on (items, Wingamabob fight), though, especially since no one in their right mind is going to backtrack through that place once they've found the exit.

Here's a tip: Grub Slime is your friend. It works a lot like glue. And water is only good for curative items.
Don't feel bad if you're having a hard time. The item mixer is more experimental at this point. You probably won't need it (much) before Chapter 3.
Hopefully by then, it'll also have an improved interface. I may lay a sample recipe somewhere in the area for the next update, just to give players an idea what to do with it.

The Anthill Canyon wasn't really designed for backtracking, but I assume that if players want upgrades and items that badly, they'll explore as much of it as they can. I'm sure if they can make it to Chapter 3, they won't worry about the things they missed in Chapter 1, and I'm not gonna write the story in such a way where a small oversight will cost them later. This will be more like, "Congratulations for finding the Wingamabob. It wasn't necessary, but at least now you'll understand the things you're about to learn a little better." I figure the player is going to be frustrated with certain levels enough as is, so I'm not gonna compound the problem with gamebreaking wrong turns. But I will reward those who find these solutions by giving them new story points and so on. That was also, sort of, the motivation behind the end of chapter computer report. Obviously, the higher your score, the more you discovered. If you scored low, you clearly didn't do a lot. It can operate as a gauge for the effectiveness of your exploration ability for when you start Chapter 2.
And no, I don't plan on bringing the computer report past Chapter 1. Each chapter will feature something different at its ending (and its "fall" moments). I haven't actually figured out what that will be yet.
If you need more help with the Item Mixer, let me know. I'm not against people posting the items they made here; though, if you're gonna post your solutions, I'd at least ask that you keep the solutions hidden behind a spoiler tag.
If you find 27 solutions, then you've found every combination available in the game so far (though, one item won't work until James implements an "Enemies Flee Instead of Die on Hit" attack).
Good luck.
