I haven't played this since the original release, and I only combed through the page, but here are my suggestions...

First, the ghosts in the Ghost town, if you get Senor Rialgo and then enter the town from behind where the ghosts were, Senor Rialgo scares a bunch of ghosts that are not there.

Second, if you beat the Texas Rangers then enter Rialgo's house, he talks to you as if you got beaten and he's moved to the fourth slot (although he is not readded).

Sorry if you fixed these already...

Also, my suggestion is upping your speed, but not increasing the steal rate a whole lot. I think the higher speed would counter the amount of times you fail to steal something.

Whoops! It shouldn't be possible to enter the Ghost Town from behind unless you've already scared off the ghosts (a cactus should pop up in the middle of the path if the ghosts are still in the way.)

I'm guessing the cactus NPC probably has the wrong tag set for it to show up... Should be pretty easy to fix.

Wait, you mean going back to Rialgo's Hut after you beat the Border Rangers? This shouldn't even be possible, since there's no way to get back to the first part of the game after you reach the border.

Or are you talking about the thugs that attack you in the desert before you get to Rialgo's Hut?

Oh! I meant the thugs in the desert. You can still visit Rialgo after beating them, and he talks to you like you just got beaten.

Wow... That's really odd. I tested that part of the game to death, and never ran into this bug.

The NPC for Señor Rialgo inside the house should only show up if the "DesertAmbush" tag (set during El Garbanzo's encounter with the thugs) is on, and the script that makes Señor Rialgo join your party after you talk to him turns the tag off again, so it shouldn't be possible for his NPC to still be in there if you go back in later.

I guess it's possible that I already fixed this after the contest demo... but I don't remember ever seeing it, so I don't know for sure.

EDIT: And the tag never gets set in the first place if you got Señor Death first; you shouldn't ever see Señor Rialgo inside his house unless you ran into the thugs with El Garbanzo alone.

That's really strange, cause I did get Senor Death first, but Rialgo was still there.

Have you uploaded a newer verison? Maybe I should see if it still does that there.

I haven't uploaded any new versions since the July 3rd demo.
If you've only played the 8-Bit Contest version, though, you should probably try that one out. It adds a third chapter to the game, a secret boss in Chapter 2 (which I'm not sure if anyone's found yet; I haven't heard anyone mention him, anyway), and a bunch more random stuff that I didn't have enough time to finish before the contest ended.

About the bug--it's starting to look like I fixed this sometime after the July 3rd demo and just forgot about it, because Señor Rialgo's NPC in his house is set to "only appear if Tag 6 is on AND Tag 2 is off" in the version I have sitting around on my computer. That should prevent him from showing up after he joins, since Tag 2's always on as long as Señor Rialgo is in your party.

This shouldn't happen anymore in the next demo, though I'm not sure when that will be done (I was thinking of maybe uploading a new one once Chapter 4 is done, though I'm definitely saving 5 and 6 for the end of the "Finish Your Dang Game" contest.)

Feel free to go into the game in Custom and add that tag to his NPC, if you don't want to wait that long for the bug to be gone (since it probably screws some other things up later on, mostly from Señor Rialgo being in the wrong party slot.) That should fix it--I haven't seen this happen in the newest version, and I'm pretty sure I went back to Rialgo's Hut at least once after the first visit on my last playthrough.

Minor progress update. Got some pretty good work done on Chapter 4, and I'm thinking that it will definitely be finished before the end of July... which leaves the whole month of August to get the (much shorter) 5th and 6th chapters done. I might actually end up finishing the whole thing before the deadline!

So far, the city of New Hamster's "outside" map is 100% done, minus a few NPCs related to something that happens right before you get the last part needed for the van. It's even bigger than Wrongside, and there's tons of random stuff to do (a lot of which is optional, though you'll need to explore the streets, some houses, the sewers, the junkyard, and the gang base to get all the parts for the van.)

What I've got done so far--various houses and shops, including one where you can finally repair the Rusty Sword; an abandoned warehouse with a "give me junk and I'll make good items out of it" guy on the roof; a library with goofy books and an optional boss; the pound, where you can rescue a puppy; a cave with a "push the blocks into the right hole to make the chest appear" puzzle; and the last gang base in the game (which looks a lot different from the ones in Wrongside, mainly because of who the gangsters actually are.)

Next up is probably the hotel (which shouldn't take long since I can just copy most of it from the Wrongside hotel), and then probably the sewers, which might take a day or two to finish.

Another minor update...

Didn't quite make my earlier Chapter-4-done-in-July predictions, mainly because I had four days where I wasn't able to work on the game at all (me, my dad, and my little sister went on a vacation and dad didn't bring his laptop along.) Still managed to finish the hotel and all the tile/wall/foemap work for the sewer (and one mini-boss you need to fight in order to get one of the machine guns) before we left, though.

Finished up the last few bits of the sewers yesterday, adding in another boss (this one optional--it's that fool who stole Mr. T's chains.) Also started on the maps for another city outskirts area, the Green Wind Dragon Dojo (where a new "superboss" is located; beat him, and you'll get Señor Rialgo's ultimate attack.)

Chapter 4 should be done by August 3rd at the latest. The only mandatory area I have left is the Junkyard, but I think I'm also going to finish up the Green Wind Dragon Dojo, the two fast food restaurants, and the Strip Club before I add in the end-of-chapter events and move on to Chapter 5. There was a pretty big hidden area I wanted to put in Chapter 4, but I might have to skip it if I want to even come close to finishing all of the non-optional parts of the game by September...

I just saw an F-15 in the review. What the hell? I never got to fight an F-15!

If that's in the latest version, then I better check it out!

The F-15 has actually been in the game since the very first version, but you need to go over the border wall (instead of using the tunnel or fighting the Border Patrol) before you'll be able to fight it.

You'll need Señor Rialgo to learn Despegue before it'll work; otherwise you'll just attempt to climb over and fail.

I played Okedoke for the first time over the weekend. And I have to say, even the things I didn't like about it didn't stop me from playing. I really enjoy this game. The 8-bit feel and the story and characters make it a lot of fun.

Only MAJOR complaint, and it's a combo of complaints unfortunately. On my playthrough, I got Sir Rialgo first. And then I rode the donkies to the border. There I was faced with the 5 bosses with no way to win, and no way to level up or go back to buy more items. I had to use Pepsi Ranger's review to realize there was in fact a party member I should have gotten long before Rialgo.

I did F4 past the boss, and I saw that you get this character after this boss fight if you didn't get him before. My suggestion/complaint, make it more obvious to get Senor Death. The ghost town was basically a side quest.

Or if you want to leave that part as is, make the bosses significantly easier, or just easy enough that 2 party members can take them down. Also, add doors to the bottom of the map at the border so you can go backwards to a town to buy items if you accidentally went to the border on accident.

I really like this game, it has a lot of promise and it's already doing alot of great things. I plan to play it more next weekend, but just figured I'd share that with you. Everything else is solid.

I actually did set the Border Rangers fight up so that they're toned down if you only have two characters... but I guess I didn't weaken them quite enough to make a big difference, heh.
I might go back and weaken the "2 characters" versions of them a little more if a lot of people are having trouble beating them that way.

I guess I could also add a "reverse donkey ride" that takes you back to the rental place... shouldn't be too hard; I'll just have the horse+donkeys hang around at the border for a while and trigger a "go back to Mexico" donkey-ride script. Of course, they'd still run off after you get past the Border Rangers (since crossing the border is supposed to be the "point of no return" at the end of Chapter 1), but having a way to get back for more items before the boss fights sounds like it'd be a good idea.

Awesome. I really dig this game. Glad I could help. Like I said, I'm looking forward to playing some more later this weekend.

Finished Chapter 4 yesterday. All that's left before I can move on to Chapter 5 is the van ride in between. There was one optional area I decided to cut out because it'd take forever to make (and probably keep me from getting much more done in time for the Finish Your Dang Game contest), but other than that Chapter 4 is 100% complete.

I also went in and weakened the "two-character" version of the Border Rangers. When I tested them out, I was able to beat them with El Garbanzo at level 1 and Señor Rialgo at level 2 (though I did need to use my Blunt and several Tacos), so they should be weak enough now. I also had a little "low-level game" playthrough with that save file and ended up having everyone at only level 6 or 7 by the end of Chapter 4. I wonder if it's possible to make it with even lower levels?

Next up is probably the van ride (leading directly into the "breaking into the prison with a van-mounted rocket launcher" scene that starts the new chapter); once that stuff's done, it shouldn't take more than a week or two before Chapter 5 is finished... unless I get lazy with it again, heh.

After about a week and a half of laziness (during which I did some minor bugfixes and made some new enemy, attack, and portrait graphics, but not much else), I'm finally getting more stuff done with Okédoké.

Still haven't done the van ride script that connects Chapter 4 to Chapter 5 just yet, but I have finished making the maptiles for the van ride and the prison. I've also got a pretty big chunk of Chapter 5's mapping done--the "outside of prison" area is almost finished (only missing some NPCs and scripting for the beginning and end of the chapter), and I've got about a third of the the biggest "inside of prison" map done on top of that.

If I manage to get the prison's maps done before the weekend's over, I should have Chapter 5 finished with a week to spare before the contest deadline.

========

What would you guys rather see in the next version?

* The first part of Chapter 6 (another driving scene leading up to a snowy town in Canada, where fuel shortages mean that you need to pass a true-false quiz minigame before you're allowed to fill up the van and move on.)

OR

* The big optional area that I was planning to leave out of Chapter 4 (another place to buy food, with a secret passage connecting to an entire hidden town with a few optional bosses that you need to beat in order to get the strongest weapon in the game.)

If I have enough time, I'll try to put them both in... but I'm not sure I'll have enough time.
