A couple more screenshots of this one, now that things are getting a lot more playable on the first map.
Moments before a battle. There's no random encounters in this game. Like one of my past 8-bit contest games that I didn't get very far with (Zombie Camp), this one uses wandering map enemies like in Earthbound, Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, etc. instead.
During a battle (not in the same room as the screenshot above, obviously... that was the dining room--still missing chairs, but otherwise done--and this one's in the greenhouse. XD)
...and after. The main reason to fight random enemies in this game is the items they drop (leveling up happens rarely and is no big deal when it does. Though having your HP restored for free is always nice, especially after you get out of the house and can no longer just curl up on almost any soft surface for a HP/MP-recovering nap.)
