Question: Is SSE two-player? I know you have two players a lot of the time -- can you play with two players?

Yeah, and in stages where there's only one character in the story you both play as copies of that same character. Every stage of SSE has co-op, and it's the only way I've had fun with it.

SSE isn't the greatest game I've ever played, but I like the level design of it.

Played it today. SSE's a good mode for me and my girlfriend, since 2P doesn't die by falling offscreen except on battle screens. She's good enough at the game, but she tends to get distracted and fall into pits too often. We unlocked Marth (via SSE) and Ness (via Brawl).

Anyone know if there's a tutorial mode or something? The controls aren't exactly self-explaining if you've never played a SSB game before.

Under Options -> Data -> Movies, there is a "How to Play" tutorial that allows you to learn the very basics of Smash Bros. It doesn't explain everything, though, so you may have to go into controller options to learn how to grab without shielding.

I also recommend learning how to air dodge (simply press the Shield button in the air), though, because I found it necessary to complete SSE on a harder difficulty.

Air dodging is a lot different in Brawl than Melee. Seeing as how in Melee, you could do two jumps and then air dodge in any particular direction, whears now, you get two jumps and then you're just stuck there, you do air dodge, but you can't veer off in a direction while you're dodging. It's annoying and something I've had to unfortunately get used to.

ALSO!

Does anyone know if Wifi matches apply towards unlocking characters/levels/etc.? Cause if not then that sucks, I doubt I'd play 450 vs. matches by myself as opposed to 450 wifi matches.

The advantage they gave the new air dodge system is that you are not stunned if you dodge. You can jump once, dodge, then you're free to do whatever you want, even dodge again if you are still in the air after a short time.

I'm not sure. I just set it to handicap, my CPU opponent having 300%, and then begin unlocking stuff quickly. Others suggested using Flower Mode and 1 HP, but I wasn't sure if Special Brawl counted for some types of unlockables, so I went with abusing handicap and damage ratio.

I thought SSE was kind of a chore. But perhaps less of a chore than playing a few hundred VS matches to unlock characters.

I'm about the only guy who didn't play melee who plays brawl. Trust me; I asked around... I'm like some sort of freak of the Brawl scene here.

But I can say this; We don't really know anything about tiers/etc until there's been about a year of tourny play. How the characters seem can only be based on how people are at the game now; and even that is undetermined. I watched a video of one of the first guys who won a brawl tourney and even he said "nobody including me knows what they are doing in this game".

So experiment and brawl away. Grin

SSE isn't perfect, but parts of it are truly the awesome.

I would have loved if the whole game had been the last stage, and the cutscenes are awesome. It's also really good at introducing you to playing as all of the different characters.

The only problem with SSE is, some characters never get any real playtime until the last stage. Like, I never did anything with Wario or Bowser throughout the entire game.

Wheras characters like Metaknight got a ton of playtime just cause he was in over half of SSE it seemed like.

Grab without shielding is Z on the GC controller, I think. Seriously, that is the least intuitive place to put a "How To" video. It could only be much worse if they made it unlockable. If I don't know how to play the game, I certainly don't know how to find the how to video.

My buddy tried using the other play methods and apparently they were all crap. Everyone I know has been using the gamecube controller. And it's funny, because with the Wii using so many gamecube functions, you would think they would manufacture more controllers, but I went to Bestbuy the other day and tried to buy a new controller, and they're pretty much not going to make more. I don't trust used controllers (I've gone back to a Gamestop 5 times in one day because of faulty equipment). Like seriouslly... do they even check the stuff they buy? Or do they hope some poor sap won't complain about it?

Also, I checked Gamespot.com and Wifi matches DO NOT count towards unlocking stuff. Which is lame I think.

What would be lame is watching your opponent battle Ness because he just finished his tenth battle.

I've been playing with the Wiimote and it's pretty much fine. The only problem I've had is trying to figure out how to do anything by reading the booklet, being the whole thing's set up assuming you're using the Wiimote with the Nunchuk.

And no, Shiz, you're not the only Brawl player who didn't play Melee. I think I only ever played that game once.

I've been having a strange discussion on this subject on another forum. I think this might potentially make good Jerkstore material. Too bad I got banned.

I personally never liked the Air Dodge. It always felt like a cheap move to me, the same as using the C-stick to perform Smash attacks. Or playing Roy.

I can hardly wait to get a copy of this game.
