If you're still struggling, post-update
Thief: backstab like crazy. Loot as much as you can.
Shift to a Magic-Focus when facing physical resistant foes.
Ranger: Shuffle through weapons until you get the desirable ones (Falchion or twin-axes). The damage you deal in the process will keep the enemy from getting too powerful while the other guys are buffing up.
You're probably also the item-user. Get those starter potions on Robot, quick! He's bad at getting healed by magic.
Robot: Charge while you can. This gives you a cumulative strength bonus and you'll be doing more and more damage.
Your eye-beams are also magic-type, so you can damage physical-resistant enemies without having to waste a turn setting it up (like the Thief).
Cleric: Start stacking heals or buffs.
