Sharn, satisfied with the bunks the way they are for now, marches down towards the others, her paranoid delusions beginning to once again take hold.
"Who has the key to this place? We should have copies made," she barked.

Dean Intensity Brown considers Big Hat Normin's request. "Integrating a new stone into the network is a big project, and I don't think I could get it done in less than a week, but if you are simply worried about intruders, I could send one of my grad students back with you now, and they could set up some wards and alarmtraps tonight. "

Kailyn

Kailyn finds three people inside his apartment.

Ursula is poking around the kitchen. A small orc boy is sitting at the table <s>near Commander Bibbles' cage</s>. He is wearing a school uniform, and giant thick-lensed glasses.

"I told my son you promised chocolate cake!" Says Ursula with a grin.

In the other room, Piter Strifeshock has an easel set up, and he is painting a picture of the view through the windows in Kalar's bedroom.

"Did you decorate this place, Count Kandel?" He asks without looking up from his work. "Your sense of space and texture are impeccable! ... but I will have to alter a few of the colors in this representation"

Cece

Cece finds her things in the dumpster. A bucket of potato peelings and an empty glass jug with goat's milk residue have been added to the stash.

Nobody Notices

The curl of smoke grows stronger, but it is still a tiny thing. Nobody notices it yet.

There is one person watching it. But "notice" is the wrong word to describe looking at a thing you created yourself.

Kailyn bows to everyone and says, "Greetings! And yes, I absolutely did promise chocolate cake. Give me but a moment to prepare, and I shall begin making some."

To Piter, he says, "Well, to be honest, I would say most of it is my work, but I did build on what was here, so I can't call it all my own. Either way though, great to see you here, I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship between us!"

With that, Kailyn will head into his kitchen to make the cake.

One note though, the Commander would be locked in Kailyn's private study, so not accessible unless they picked the lock or broke the door down.

Before Normin finally makes his way on his supportive cane to embark across the campus, he stops then his hat turns to indicate his redirection. He asks, "Oh, and one more thing.."

He gazes to the dusty bookshelves, "You wouldn't happen to have an entry level spell book I could borrow, would you? I just need to expand my own repertoire, nothing I need to keep."

"Mondieu! Who would throw away a perfectly good bucket?" Cece wonders if this is a sign that she will be needing a second bucket before the night is through. And the glass jug... talk about divine providence! She coils the rope around herself, dumps the torches into the bucket and sets off for headquarters, looking quite a sight.

What Kailyn prepares is not technically a cake, it is a "torte", conventional baking being impossible in the Unburning, but nobody would possibly complain about the distinction.

The chocolate torte is exquisite. Ursula wolfes down her slice. Her son savours his piece thoughtfully.

Piter says "I can't eat while I am inspired" before anyone even offers him any

"I am going to take Marvog home now" says Ursula. "Thanks for the cake! You are a real gentleman! I'm going to go see this 'Headquarters' place later in the evening. Maybe see you there."

"The cake was delicious Count Kailyn" says Marvog

("The Student Store is on the ground floor" said the Assistant Headmaster petulantly)

"No compensation required" says Intensity Brown with a smile. "The warding will be done by students for course credit" and she quickly clarifies, "Advanced students of course, not freshmen"

Kailyn cleans up the dishes and does the washing up. When all that's done, he'll take off his armor and cape, readying himself for bed. Despite it only being the afternoon. He'll glance at what Piter is painting, then head out onto the balcony (there's a balcony, right? If not, the window.) for some fresh air and sunlight while he eats the last slice of torte.

Funny thing, I actually just tried making a torte yesterday, and it was while making it I realized that that's prolly what Kailyn would have to make because of the lack of fire, hehe.

"And where is everybody?" Sharn continues before answered. They had all just been given a mansion and most of the others didn't even bother to see it. They were all rich snobs, Sharn almost thought to herself. Then she saw Acardia sitting there. She was one of the fanciest in the group and she was here. That took away almost all of her bluster. Sharn milled about. She had nothing else planned for the day other then fortify her bed and get high, and the bunks already seemed more fortified then she was used to. Sharn decided she'd wait at least a little while before getting into her lazyleaf stash.

He smiles under his hat, "A genuine love for passing knowledge, I see. Your class is fortunate to receive the treasure of your mind. Very well, send one of your own to the Bad Noodle Lane, where our headquarters are stationed. If I am not there yet, I expect one of the others to be still present- I've done a bit of teaching myself, hmmhm."

Once that is done, he will visit the aforementioned store. He doesn't expect to afford anything, but it could still be useful to plan future purchases.

Arcadia stares at Sharn for a long minute, her arms crossed and eyebrows perked. She sighs before nodding. "That's true …it would be a burden and a nuisance to only have one key." Arcadia then turns from Sharn, speaking to the room. "Would anyone else like a key made?"

Someone begins screaming outside. It isn't a loud noise, but it sounds like it is coming from a few blocks away... someone must be screaming loudly to be heard at that distance.

Dean Intensity Brown assures Normin that someone will be at the Headquarters to magically ward it within a few hours.

Normin finds the student store a bit of a disappointment. It has numerous overpriced copies of a selection of magic books. Many of them appear to be written by the professors. More than half the store is full of non-magical textbooks for the University's other subjects. "Survey of Common Literature" "Mundane Mathometry" "Dwarven Studies" etc...

Caldon heads towards the Morgensen estate in Old Bakak, but no sooner does he leave the Poor Quarter, does he spot someone he recognizes -- or rather , they spot him.

"Caldon! Caldon Morgensen! Just the person I was hoping to run into!"

It is Etna Lane Corngood, the Low-Mayor of Granary Hill. The Corngoods are old-money, but not really a proper noble house. High in business sense, but not so high in class or style.

Low Mayor of a district isn't a very important position. It hardly carries any more authority than a Low Judge.

"I heard the most interesting rumor about you this morning, Caldon" she says with a smile.

If Caldon chooses to look back over his shoulder, he can see the ribbon of smoke rising over the Poor Quarter. Etna Lane Corngood does not notice it at all.

Cece

As she gets close to headquarters, Cece sees a ribbon of smoke rising from somewhere away from the main road. It looks like it is right near the border of the Unburning.

Kailyn

The balcony Kailyn is enjoying commands a view mostly of the University. If he looks all the way to the right, he might spot the distant ribbon of black smoke.

Ebald and Evangeline and Petrol

All three of you separately are in Old Bakak. You are too far away to see the smoke in the Poor Quarter, but if you decide to go back to headquarters, you will see it.

The spellbooks here seem overpriced even for the already expensive spells? His visit ends up short and he departs shortly to return to headquarters.

OOC: Was looking for a lower level spellbook to add new spells to my spellbook
