Testing interest in another D&D game(After Castle Amber
I know we are in what appears to be a final boss battle in the current Castle Amber D&D game.
I was wondering if there is anyone out there interested in a new campaign after it wraps up. (I have absolutely no plans to start before Spoonweaver declares that thread to be complete)
I have been itching to try and DM a game myself. I believe I would try to do homebrew based on D&D 5th edition. http://5thsrd.org/ provides enough basic gameplay rules to use as a starting point, and I have the outline of a scenario and a world already written.
I hope to emulate Spoonweaver's pleasant and relaxed style of DMing so it ought to be friendly for people who have not played before.
I anticipate a low-combat high-roleplay story, and although it is hard to tell these things in advance, I don't think it will be really big and long quest, since the goals are fairly simple and the players won't have to dig very deep to uncover most of them.
EDIT: the character creation thread is up here: http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewtop ... 847#122847

Yeah, I'd probably be interested. I have been insanely busy taking care of stuff recently and haven't been able to do all the levelling up and posting and stuff for Spoony's campaign but I'm gonna rectify that soon enough.Bob the Hamster wrote:I know we are in what appears to be a final boss battle in the current Castle Amber D&D game.

I haven't ever tried that, but I suppose I'm still game. Learning is fun, or so they say.Bob The Hamster wrote: I have been itching to try and DM a game myself. Roll for combat and be a bully. I'm tentatively interested. I play Vampire the Masquerade and formerly played "New" DnD, so I wouldn't mind jumping in. How often do you play, and are timezones an issue? Also, how stringent would you be on character concepts
I'm by no means a powergamer, and I wouldn't mind trying something "different" race/class wise.

Haha! Maybe :)Gizmog wrote:Roll for combat and be a bully. By low combat, I mean that there will be no random monsters-- but there will still be plenty of well-trained well-armed people who you can antagonize if you wish :)

"How often do you play, and are timezones an issue?": we will be doing play-by-post right in a forum thread, so timezones don't matter at all. We will probably average about 1 post a day, but we can easily be flexible with that. I won't punish characters if the player has to be absent for a while, and I won't let characters run away with the story too much if they can post a whole bunch.guo wrote:I'm tentatively interested. "Also, how stringent would you be on character concepts": I can be pretty flexible. You can pick something from http://5thsrd.org/#character as a base, using its game mechanics but making up your own flavor and description however you like, or you can go full homebrew. There are a ton of races and classes here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/5e_Homebrew (although a lot of them are overpowered and will need a little nerfing)

Haha, cool. Kamel looks good to me, I can't see anything overpowered in its description.
The best online character sheet tool I have found so far that supports D&D 5th Edition character sheets is the one here: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets
Nobody needs to rush to get a character ready, but if anybody does want to get started now, this is a good thread to ask for help in :)

Oh man, those homebrews and races...

OP or no? I'm not quite sure. Lots of Cha and Dex based stuff with this combo.

Those look powerful, but I think I would still allow them both. If you want to use Chibido, I say ignore the Resonant/Silent subraces, since the base race is already plenty powerful.Master K wrote:OP or no? I'm not quite sure. Lots of Cha and Dex based stuff with this combo.

If you (or anyone) wants to get a head start on making a character, I should warn you about a couple things that your character will already know.guo wrote:Kamel it is. I will develop my character in the next few days, but the real question is : Do I serve the Kingdom of Kamelot?
1) The entire country is under a curse that makes water/ice/cold magic less effective. Any spell or special ability that fits that description has disadvantage.
2) In certain parts of the land, all fire/explosion/heat magic/abilities completely fail. In other parts they work as normal.
That isn't to say you should avoid spells of those two elementals, just that your character should already be aware of those limitations.
We will be starting at level 1, and although I don't care much about the personality/ideals/bonds/flaws section of the character sheet, make sure you read about "Lifestyle" here: http://5thsrd.org/rules/expenses/ since in this campaign, lifestyle will have an impact on gameplay.
