Ooh! Interesting twist :)

So he doesn't know anything else about Castle Clover/Amber, and will have to learn that from others (and knows nothing about his father's experience with the Castle and the Curse beyond the tidbit about the Beast of Averoinge)

I'm shocked to find out that the Beast of Averoigne is the kind of thing that has friends and rivals! I thought it was more of a Dire Dread Moose kind of thing.

BMR pointed out that I had given Rob some feats that are only allowed for Fighters (Weapon Specialization) so I fixed that.

I am also looking at giving Rob a diety. Olidammara seems perfect, but would he be able to know about Olidammara being an Averoigne native? Maybe he got ahold of some Olidammaran song-books that belonged to an adventurer who passed through Castle Amber? Or perhaps Averoigne knows D&D gods from before the time when they were separated by the curse?

Are there any local Averoigne gods that I should look at?

I can also keep him an athiest, for convenience sake.

Command word
Caster Level (4)
Charges per day: 2
4 * 4 * 1800 / (5 / 2) = 11520gp

Rapier of Keen Infliction (+3)

This masterwork Rapier has a magically <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/keenEdge.htm">keen</a> blade, and on a successful hit, also <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/inflic ... nflicts</a> 1d8+1 negative energy damage.

+1 enchancement bonus
1d6 damage
crit threat 15-20/x2

Not recommended for use against the undead.

+320 for Masterwork Rapier
+18000 for +3 weapon bonus
(Keen is a standard weapon bonus. Adds +1 weapon bonus, doesn't require Keen edge spell)
+2000 (1 * 1 * 2000) for Inflict Light Wounds, spell level 1, caster level 1, use activated.
Total price 20320gp

Rapier of Livid Splattering (+2)

This masterwork Rapier is enchanted so that on a successful hit, the pommel will emit a garish spray of vivid colors which can stun, blind, or render unconscious, like the <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/colorSpray.htm">Color Spray</a> spell.

+1 enchancement bonus
1d6 damage
crit threat 18-20/x2

Cannot be used by fencers hoping to look dignified in a duel.

+320 for masterwork rapier
+8000 for +2 weapon bonus
+2000 (1 * 1 * 2000) for Colour Spray spell, spell level 1, caster level 1, use-activated
Total price 10320gp

Rapier of Cowardly Splattering (+2)

Exactly the same as the above, but the Color Spray only activates on a miss, not on a hit

(I have no idea how that would affect the price)

I don't either, but I got a great accessory to go with it:

Blindfold

Flexible piece of cloth that covers the wearers eyes, blinding him with all the usual disadvantages therein. Wearer is also compelled to yell "Marco!" at random intervals or when feeling lost.

Rapier of Summon Glockenspiel (+2)

This masterwork Rapier is enchanted so that on every successful hit, <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/summon ... ent.htm">a large heavy Glockenspiel appears</a> with a loud noise near the place where the blade struck the enemy, and falls cacophonously to their feet, making the square where they are standing into difficult terrain. There is no limit to the number of glockenspiels that can be summoned (one per attack). The glockenspiels vanish after 10 minutes.

Any other effects of littering the battlefield with glockenspiels is left to the dungeonmaster's discretion.

+1 enchancement bonus
1d6 damage
crit threat 18-20/x2
(spell duration arbitrarily increased from 1 min to 10min because this is such a useless spell)

+320gp for Masterwork Rapier
+8000 for +2 weapon bonus
+1000 (.5 * 1 * 2000) for Summon Instrument, spell level 0, caster level 1, use-activated
Total price 9320gp

Senester's Sap of the Enlightened Witness

This enchanted blackjack seems to be a normal masterwork weapon of its type until wielded by a person of non-lawful character. Only then is its true nature revealed. In addition to it's enchantment, anyone rendered unconcious by such a weapon may be affected, if the wielder so chooses, by a "Modify Memory" effect to muddy the circumstances in which he was rendered unconcious. The wielder must choose to enforce this option before the victim regains conciousness, or else he will have to knock them out again.

When purchased from "reputable" retailers, Senester's Saps come with a pamphlet to aid in the creation of a believable memory: "The Likeness and Mannerisms of a Suspicious Man". The pamphlet includes a full color portrait and detailed descriptions of the mannerisms of a man who some knowledgable individuals might be able to identify as those of Mannis, known producer of magic weapons for your upscale street thug and who less knowledgable individuals will recognize as a prominent mugger of some reknown with a reputation for being in multiple places at the same time.

Spell Effect: Modify Memory

Limitations: Cannot be used to "allow the subject to recall an event with perfect clarity". Effect can only be used on characters rendered unconcious by said weapon. Wielder must be non-lawful.

Mannis's Mace of Municipal Cleanliness

This wicked looking black mace acts as a normal masterwork weapon of its type until wielded by a person of non-lawful character. Only then is its true nature revealed. In addition to its enchantment, it also performs an important public service: Anyone slain by Mannis' Mace of Municipal Cleanliness has their corpse teleported six feet into the earth directly below. This effect fails if there isn't any appropriate unoccupied earth within the 100 vertical feet directly below the corpse. This effect does not destroy the body, it merely hides it.

When purchased from "reputable" retailers, buyers will find enclosed with the mace an easily destroyed letter from Mannis himself (Signed "M") which promises that if such a mace is used to kill Senester (and Mannis will know if that is the case), the purchaser will receive a full refund.

I was gonna price these things but I went cross-eyed when I saw the tables and maths involved. Too tired for that! Also couldn't find any spells that were appropriate for the burial effect: Meld into Stone came closest. I'll have to remember the Rapier of Summon Glockenspiel, that looks like a good time.

Cloak of Entrances

Three times per day, whenever the wearer of this cloak enters a room, mist will ominously billow about him and into the room. This mist is not enough to obscure anything, but it makes the wearer look that much more mysterious and intimidating providing a +5 to intimidate checks provided the attempt is made within one minute of entering a room.

Spell Used: Obscuring Mist
Spell Level: 2
Caster Level: Lowered to 3

Use-activated or continuous: 2 (spell level) × 3 (caster level) × 2,000 gp = 12,000 gp
Skill bonus: 12,000 gp + (5^2 × 100) = 14,500 gp
Charges per day: 14,500 gp / (5 / 3 charges per day) = 8,700 gp

Final Cost: 8,700 gp & 348 xp

Hehe, just a silly item I thought up. No intentions of actually creating it though.

Sap of the Enlightened Witness and Mace of Municipal Cleanliness are both brilliant weapons :)

It seems tricky to figure out how big the weapon bonus is based on the spell level and caster level of the spell involved. After much reading over the examples on <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/ma ... .htm">this page</a> I concluded that I have been calculating prices all wrong, so I'll have to go back and edit my previous posts.

Here is my attempt to price the Sap of the Enlightened Witness and Mace of Municipal Cleanliness

1gp for the sap

+300gp for because it is masterwork.

+8000gp because it is a +2 enchanted weapon.

+79200 (4 * 11 * 1800) for Modify Memory, Spell level 4, caster level 11, command word activation

For a grand total of 87501

However, if it is reduced to only work once per day, the Modify Memory cost gets divided by 5, to a more manageable 15840, making for a grand total of 24140gp

Then for the mace.

5 gp for the mace

+300 gp for the masterwork

+8000 gp for a +2 weapon bonus

+30000 (3 * 5 * 2000) for Meld Into Stone, spell level 3, caster level 5, use-activated.

For a grand total of 38305gp

If reduced to a single use-per-day, the total price works out to 14305gp

Gauntlet Of Slugbug-No-Hit-Backs

When a foe is punched with this gauntlet, the attacker cannot be hit back without passing a Will saving throw, as if the gauntlet has cast <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/sanctu ... nctuary</a> (CL 1) on its wearer.

The effect only lasts for one round, or until the next attack, but can be sustained by repeatedly punching someone on every round. (attacking breaks the sanctuary spell, but a new one is immediately re-applied)

+305gp for Masterwork Gauntlet
+8000 for +2 weapon bonus
+2000 (1 * 1 * 2000) for Sanctuary spell, Spell level 1, caster level 1, use-activated.
Total price 10305gp

Fangs Of Delicious Nibbling

These hollow metal fang-caps can be attached to the teeth of any creature with a natural bite attack. They provide a +1 enhancement bonus (effectively making the creature's teeth a masterwork weapon)

One each day, when biting a foe, the attacker can choose to swallow what they bite off, and it will be transmuted by the fangs so that it will taste <a href="http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/goodberry.htm">juicy and delicious</a>. The attacker will be cured by 2d4 hp, and their hunger will be completely satisfied for the entire day.

+400gp for Masterwork unusual exotic weapon (arbitrary)
+8000gp for +2 weapon bonus
+360gp (1 * 1 * 1800 / 5) for Goodberry spell, spell level 1, caster level 1, command word activated, 1 use per day

Total price 8760gp
