Voulton picks up his book and hides behind a tree. Better be a little cautious, but no need to let it spoil an afternoon of reading.

The beholder emerges from the ruins with a twist and a pop. It's squeezing and twisting through the tight corridors seemed to have taken a toll as it sloshed around sluggishly. It quickly looked all around with it's many eyes. "Thank you!" it cried. Then it floated off to the west. It passed relatively close to the tree Voulton had hidden behind but made no move towards him or shot any rays. It remained in view of the party as it floated away but was what they all assumed was a safe distance away before they regrouped.

"Well, that was uneventful. Not that I'm complaining though.

"So, what is our next course of action? We could continue exploring the dungeon now, but if the rest of you want, we can wait until tomorrow so that I can scout using one of my minions. If we do that, there will be no danger to us, and we'll know what to expect. That, and it will give us time to catch our breaths, so to speak in my case."

"Yes, lets rest and explore more tomorrow. Perhaps Lynda will have come back by then... I think my Dad might have gone searching for her. Did he say anything to anyone before he left?"

"Oh, and how was your talk with the dragon?"

Voulton recounts the trip without looking up from his book: "It was great, they got a whole city. Temple devoted to him, worshipped like a God. He was HUGE, nobody's gonna be troubling him. Most of 'em seemed to be practicing magic in the open too. Friendly folks. Friendly mice! He asked us very nicely if we'd let him safeguard it for the future of the Kingdom, seemed a little annoyed at Dan for having brought us, actually. Must've gone out on a limb to make sure we'd be happy. Told us how to get back too, Dan didn't wanna take us back and forth for the rest of his life. Can't blame him. It'd get boring. Rachelle and the mouse probably saw more than I did."

"Most intriguing. So, we are decided then? We rest here for the night, and wait for Dan or Lynda to arrive. In the meantime, we peruse these books? That plan works for me. I will set my minions out in a perimeter so that we are not ambushed by anything."

Kalar does just that, setting his skeletons and zombies around so that more of those bug things won't suddenly ambush them.

He proceeds with using the flask of blood on the book with a mouth. He also casts Read Magic on himself, just in case. It will last for nearly an hour and a half, so there should be plenty of time.

He had been born only six short months ago. He quickly developed into a walking talking member of society. No one knew why he was able to talk. Some said he had gained the ability due to a stray spell cast by an apprentice sorcerer. Others thought it was the will of the dragon god. In either case, he was held in high standing for his abilities and allowed to do almost anything he chose, even converse with the dragon god from time to time. An urge in the pit of his stomach kept pulling him though. He wanted to see more, wanted to do more.
When the strange adventurers had shown up, he knew had needed to follow them. He had planned to jump into one of their packs or pants pockets to join their group. Instead, he found the adventurers quite open to him following along. In his excitement he had told no one where he was going and packed nothing. He now sat in what seemed to be a massive wagon. He watched as the others scattered after warnings of some sort of monster. He looked over the side of the wagon as the large bulbous creature floated by. The feeling of excitement he felt as it left wouldn't easily go away, he thought to himself. He wondered what amazing things he would see on his amazing journey.
The other members of the party all began reading their books. Kalar managed to open another of the locked books with a vial of blood. It seemed to be about vampiric spell casting focusing mostly on evasion and remaining unseen. Rachelle was offered books but didn't seem to be the reading type. The rest of the day was spent reading and wandering. No more of the strange reptilian bug creatures were spotted and nothing else emerged from the dungeon below. Night came with nothing attacking the party and so they settled in hoping to sleep soundly.

Kalar begins to read the book on the undead.

"We're looking for anything that might be of use against Azderac. It also seems to be connected to the castle somehow, and that's a mystery I would like to unravel. However, if the rest of you feel that the risks outweigh the benefits, I am open to leaving this place and searching for the axe."

And so,
the night passed uneventfully. The next day came and the adventurers prepared to explore the dungeon more. There was still no sigh of Lynda or Dan.

"Right, I will about ahead in the dungeon using a zombie so that none of us will be placed in danger. That way, when we do go in, we will at least know what to expect.

"Rob has seen this before, but I should go ahead and warn the rest of you. While this spell its active, I will take direct control of a zombie. While controlling it though, my body will remain here, seemingly inn a coma. Hrulgin will watch over my body, so the rest of you will be free to do whatever you need to do."

With that said, Kalar behind casting the spell to switch eyes with one of his new zombies. When it's done, he'll had in with the remaining skeletons to scout around in the room with the tapestry and the stairs leading upwards.

While Kalar is gone, Hrulgin plans to stay near Kalar's body. He will take the opportunity to read the vampiric book though.

Voulton keeps reading for now, content that things are going well and trying to forget the grisly surprise of yesterday. The half-plate is a lot more comfortable than the old full plate, which Voulton resigns to the wagon.

Kalar in zombie form entered the dungeon. Everyone else stayed behind to read. Rachelle decided to practice her halberd swings instead of reading. Though, everyone else's interest in the books was certainly getting her interest. Maybe there she would read one of them after, she thought.
Kalar reached the room the beholder had been in. The room was clearly empty. Kalar didn't notice anything in the room of note.
