Hey guys, I just picked up Project Zomboid a week ago when it was on sale at 40% off. I've barely touched it so far, truth be told--still need to make the time--but I like the idea behind it, and I am curious about its multiplayer feature.
Do any of you play it? Would you guys ever be interested in playing a multiplayer game sometime?
I ask this question loosely, since I haven't played multiplayer yet (as I said, I've barely even touched the single player game), and I don't know if it's something we can even set up on our own server. But if all that's possible, let me know if you ever want to give a multiplayer game a try. Seems like it would be fun in co-op mode.
If not, I guess we could always go back to Terraria whenever 1.3 is released. But I think this would be fun, if you have the game, obviously.

what's a zomboid, and more importantly, what is this fabeled 1.3 terraria update people keep mentioning?
me and two friends actually had a terraria binge this past 1.5 weeks, we basically took down every boss in the game and got powerful enough where we can kind of just effortlessly take down any boss, though we've yet to test out mettle against a dungeon guardian. no one has bested me in PVP, so we're considering a rule where we can only use pants armor in battle to make it where I'm not only taking 1 damage at a time.

i'd be down for that. i believe you can host a server, but i honestly know nothing about it.
you're almost guaranteed to die (i've only lasted a few in-game days/a few hours in real time) whether by zombie, sickness, hunger, or just straight up boredom. the world is persistent, so while your character may die, the things they built/destroyed carry over. this is a lot cooler in multiplayer, as you'll see the remnants of past survivors, and possible hints as to how they died. the issue is, there's no end game. you either survive forever and get bored to death (literally) or you die (literally).
anyways, i think it'd be cool to take a night and play together, just to see how long we can last - maybe up the ante and make the zombies fast, and super strong.

Yeah, the game's description says that the point is not to win but to last as long as you can, so I think outlasting other players is perhaps part of the fun? I don't know. But I think it would make a fun community multiplayer game. I don't know if you can join back into the same game as a new character, though. Obviously, the ability to watch the game world change over time would be half the fun. I suppose that's part of the environmental dynamic?
Anyway, I need to play the game single player a bit more to really get the scope, but I do want to try the multiplayer soonish. When are you up for it? Is anyone else around here up for it?
I may jump on IRC some night and see who else has the game and wants to play.
Meowskivich, in case you haven't looked it up yourself yet, here's what we're talking about:
http://projectzomboid.com/
Youtube has a number of gameplay videos on hand if you need to see it in action.
And I have a hard time believing you know nothing about Terraria 1.3 if you're an active player, but just in case you're serious:

That's where the developers let everyone know what's going on with updates.

Ah, this game. I thought it was on KS or Indiegogo but apparently not.
I watched a Let's Play. It's a cool game. But I have to agree with one of the comments to that video: it seems like a game that's fun to watch let's plays of, but probably not so fun to play by yourself. There just doesn't seem to be enough of a goal or variety of things to do. It's very similar to a graphical version of part of Cataclysm: the initial part where you're hoarding basic supplies and weapons. (Honestly I'm amazed that someone has managed to translate Cataclysm so successfully/faithfully into a graphical game.) That said, multiplayer is probably a different experience and the best way to enjoy the game.

if you die, you lose all character based progress (stats, experience, items you held), but you can still rejoin as a fresh new character. i don't think there's a "hardcore" option like minecraft, since the longer you play, the harder it becomes to survive, anyways.
