I love me some turn-based battles.
So, as a sort of "test" of the nightly build, I've started this game.
It's pretty simple, and in first-person for battles!

Area 2 is lookin' fine. Needs a tad more polish, though.

Took me long enough to get to it, but now I have more time to devote to the game. I hope to have something significant to show off tonight, [s]but who wants to help me with the project? I basically want some backdrops is all.

Dark and Stormy Canyon type place
Dark brickish castle with torches (animation optional, but acceptable)
Throne room of evil kingman person

Those are what I have immediate thoughts about having.
Enemy placement is about where it shows in the video above ^^^
And then there will be 4 heroes so take that into account (it would be nice if the ohrrpgce would show an example of where teh heroes life bars would appear like it does for where the heroes themselves appear).

I'm thinking of perhaps where the attack menu and health bars are at that those spots could be just black.
Know what? just focus on the ground, I suppose. Whether it's a sort of spotlight treatment or horizontal plane. Spotlight might be groovier.[/s]


But anywho, I'll be working on things. I've got a good amount of attacks to draw up.

EDIT: Hold on drawing me the backdrops, I've got a plan to help show which hero is being attacked without it slipping too far out of 1st person view.

Well, I made a new enemy, you can see above, but other than that I've been working on font and some global strings, mostly. My plan is to have small descriptions for things and telling of what they do through the use of small images.

So far there's only one hero with a unique sprite, and that's only because it has a pet golden bee. Named George. This was in part to my listening to this guy play through the "BS The Legend of Zelda", in which you get a golden bee in a jar as one of your starter items since you lack a sword. He named the bee George, and so it had to be done.

Some slight mechanics have been devised:
Swords are powerful weapons only the main hero can use. They have higher attack than other weapons.

Knives are weak, but you strike twice. The main hero and the second hero can use them.

Rods are Physically weak, but offer skill power boosts. The first three heroes can use them.

Bows attack all foes at once, and have slightly above weak power. The third and fourth hero can use them.

This stuff doesn't sound unique, and it isn't, but I'm working on making a few more weapon classes.

Now, as for skills, each hero will have a mixture of things they can pull off.

The main hero can use Ice magics, and can perform as few moves that will cost its HP, so use them wisely.

The second hero has Fire magics, both single target and multitarget. It also has some weak party healing magic too.

The third hero has Lightening magics, which attack random targets, but they also have single target strong healing spells.

The fourth hero has a pet bee, which can do various moves, including stealing from the enemy...

That's about all I can really say right now, and things are certain to change, but have fun with the new enemy sprite, sorry I didn't have much to show, see you tomorrow most likely. - Meowskivich :v:

EDIT: ALSO! If you want to see a particular type of enemy in this game, go ahead and request it, that enemy I made was actually a request I did.
Now who asked it and what they asked would be revealing information I'm not allowed to speak about, but go ahead and request away.

Today I shall be doing more work. I'm currently in the process of making a template for battles, and from there I will craft the battle scenes. Then I will draw the final monster from my sketchbook plans, but I still need 3 more monsters for the game (at least), so still feel free to request types of monsters you'd like to see. I'm sure there are some people out there with some preferences.

Doesn't really help me self-esteem...
but with whining aside, here's some progress.

I got done all the boss sprites now, so that's done. I remembered one monster I had planned on the backside of a chinese buffet placemat.
Before passing out last night, I thought up a new weapon for the main hero, being hammers. Their special thing will be that while being powerful like the swords, they also have the ability to deal double damage to metal foes(rare monsters that provide a lot more exp than normal, as they only can take 1 hp in damage at a time). The most powerful hammer will be 5 points less in strength to that of the most powerful sword.
I'm actually considering just making everyone able to wield any weapon, as all characters have their own respective magic and each can attack physically.
A secondary skill power boosting item would probably be "orbs". I'm thinking of making them a double-striking attack as well. The thing is that they'd be, in a sort, a weaker choice in terms of physical might, but will be more powerful than a staff, and it won't have as much power as a staff, but it'll hit harder with a standard attack or physical skill.
Aka, it'll be somewhat a balanced item.

I've also revised some things about the hero skills.

The main heros ice magic will be single target only, and since he's more of a warrior than a mage, his magic will also be able to "freeze" foes, immobilizing them for a turn or two. It'll likely be left to randomization, for the yum factor of it.
The secondary heros fire magic will be all multitarget, and so will it's health restoration magic. It also have attack and power boosting magic. I'm thinking that will also have an attack AND power boosting spell. I honestly didn't mean to turn this character into a mage, but things just fell that way.
The third remains the same except it learns def boosting magics in a similar fashion to hero 2.
I'm thinking of giving the final hero magic as well, but I dunno. I have a final magic planned that's just essentially a nonelemental one. I may just let it be unique to foes though, since the final hero has a unique skill type of its bee, george.

So that's that. Oh, and if I haven't mentioned yet, I've got the first battle scene made, though I might change some things one more time. I dunno though. And also if I haven't said it, I've added the basic attacks that are assigned to hammers and bows. See ya.

No, he isn't a mungbean, but I can draw one (maybe).
So, I shall draw a sprouting mungbean for James, and I have two or three other guys thought out.

Though this is enough, don't feel like you can't request creatures or stuff! There's still plenty of time for requests, but I may not be able to accept a huge ton more. And if I fail to make a request happen, I'll likely just skip to the next request.

Also, there's a secret boss called Phayljor, it's a creature I was requested to draw into the game by a friend, and I gave up on it as I felt it looked too crappy. So, I made a crappy battle background for it and left it in the game. Try and find it!

Hmmmm, dunno about those. Maybe a Dingoo, but they're a tad colourful for the palettes I'm using.... I'll probably make one though.
