Any way to lower sound effect volume?

Post by jcenterprises »

It seems every time I open the sound effects folder through Custom, I'm greeted by the deafening boom from the BigBossDeath file, and it's kind of annoying. In fact, I had my headphone connected to the computer, and the noise can still be heard in other rooms in the house! (Thank goodness I wasn't wearing those headphones at the time!) However, sometimes the music or other sound effects can be too quiet at times, so is there any way to better balance the sound volume so it isn't as loud, but not too quiet either?

I vote for an in-editor volume adjuster. If the creators of the editor are so merciful to meet this demand, otherwise, I've got next to nothing other than audio editors. Which I don't know of any off the top o' me head.

Not yet. It's definitely badly needed. Your only option is to use an external editor.

Also unfortunately on Windows MIDI volume is totally separate to other volumes.

My favorite audio editor is Audacity, and it is free and open-source :)

But yes, it would be nice if we could control volume better. That will have to wait for a better sound backend.

It won't be too much work to implement in all the existing sound/music backends. Half the work is actually in fixing the music backend API, which is awful and wrapped in additional useless layers in allmodex and elsewhere.

Oh! Good! I stand corrected :)
All of my knowledge about the sound backends comes second-hand :)

I guess that makes me the only source of information, and ultimately to blame for rumours... aside from Jabber spread FUD in favour of switching to OpenAL!
