Seneschal Ileran wrote:Very well then. If you mean to rest in the city before setting out, then I advise you to try The Closed Eye, it's an inn frequented by my agents, so few questions will be asked. Here.
Sense Motive (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 1 + 0 + 1 = 2 Fail
    Beardthar: 16 + 0 + 3 = 19 Success
    Peanut: 7 + 3 + 1 = 11 Fail
    Spittle: 3 + 3 + 0 = 6 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 13 + 0 + 3 = 16 Success
That, and because it's frequented by his agents, he probably suggested it to more easily keep an eye on your group.

The seneschal hands Peanut a small pouch that jangles with the money inside.

Appraise (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
  • Peanut: 19 + 0 + 2 = 21 Success
Judging by its weight, there are probably anywhere from a couple hundred to three hundred gold pieces.

Peanut bounces the little bag in his palm a couple of times to judge its value very roughly, before tugging on the collar of his shirt and dropping the pouch in, where it would be a less obvious spot for a pickpocketer to check, "That'll work! And thank you for everything."

Beardthar, to the Seneschal wrote:While we are waiting for our equipment, would you mind demonstrating the magic rod you lent us? I understand we can contact you once per day if we hold it in the noon sun and speak your name, but you said that you could also contact us via the rod at any time of day wherever we are. Would you mind demonstrating that for us? it sounds fascinating

Seneschal Ileran wrote:Hmm, indeed, that may be useful, so you aren't surprised the first time that it happens.
Seneschal Ileran brings forth a medallion set with an amethyst from beneath his robes. The amethyst is huge, easily the size of a grown man's fist.

Appraise (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
  • Akbar: 20 + 0 + -1 = 19 Success
    Beardthar: 14 + 0 + 1 + 2 = 17 Success
    Peanut: 19 + 0 + 2 = 21 Success
    Spittle: 10 + 0 + 1 = 11 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 7 + 0 + 1 = 8 Fail
From the looks of the medallion and the ornate gold that the amethyst is set in, you doubt the medallion would fetch anything less than 6,000 gold pieces. The fact that it's magical could easily treble the price.

He holds it in his hand and it begins to glow. At the same time, the gem in your rod begins to glow a deep, vibrant purple. There is also a faint humming noise, like a bee's wings only much, much deeper, that grows louder with each passing moment. Soon, it's easily audible throughout the hall. It's not loud, but anyone in the area would be easily able to hear it. The glow as well, provides roughly the same amount of illumination as a bright torch.

Peanut has already convinced himself he doesn't want much to do with the castle's riches other than the supplies they're given, so he doesn't give the amythest the wizard holds a 2nd thought despite its apparent value. Plus, he's not a thief.

"Okay, gotcha." He responds at the explanation of how the communication works.

Beardthar, self-conciously wrote:Ileran... Ileran! Ileran?

Not being the one holding the rod, Beardthar is unable to activate it and absolutely nothing happens.

Spittle hands the rod to Beardthar, secretly glad to be rid of the responsibility of its safekeeping.

Tim-Tim detects magic, figuring now's a good a time as any to see if the party is really enchanted with something that might be a powerful geas or not. He also figures he might as well see if any one in the party has any thing magical that they were able to keep a hold of.

As Beardthar holds the rod up and says the seneschal's name, the gem set in the rod flares brightly for a second and then subsides. A ghostly, purple-tinted version of Ileran's face is hovering over the top of the rod. The image moves with the rod whenever Beardthar moves his arm.

Seneschal Ileran wrote:And that is how I can contact you. I speak into this medallion, and you will be able to communicate with me. The effect when you contact me is similar.
Tim-Tim's Detect Magic
You detect a strong aura around each of your companions and yourself.
Spellcraft Check: 7 + 6 + 1 = 14 Fail
There is a strong aura arround the rod and the seneschals medallion.
Spellcraft Check: 14 + 6 + 1 = 21 Success The item radiates with a combination of Evocation, Divination, and Enchantment auras.
The seneschal himself is surrounded by a moderate aura.
Spellcraft Check: 18 + 6 + 1 = 25 Success The seneschal radiates with an aura of Enchantment and Abjuration.
There is a dim magical aura lingering around Lord Gideon's throne. It must have been rather powerful, as you estimate it has been days since the spell was cast there.
You hear a sound behind you, and a fat halfling walks in pushing a cart loaded with the weapons you requested. He unloads the cart and lays the weapons out on the floor before bowing to Seneschal Ileran, and leaving the great hall.

Seneschal Ileran wrote:Ah, here are your weapons and armor. I believe you now have everything that you need?

Beardthar wrote:Can you see me through this thing?
asks Beardthar, addressing the image of the Seneschal over the rod, rather than the real person.

Tim-Tim sulks when you notices the enchantment surrounding himself and the other party members. Though, it could still be a hoax and this spell he's detecting could just be a decoy. However, with no way of knowing and no real way of getting this curse removed he'll have no choice but to seek out this paladin who kills people, in a den full of kolbods.

Tim-Tim does his best to wear the armor that he's not proficient with and then starts heading off. Slowly. As he's a bit encumbered now.
Well let's get going! The sooner we find that paladin the sooner this curse will go away.

"And they say I ask too many questions!" he pouts. Peanut tugs on Beardthar's cloak, "Can we go now? I'm getting bored standing here."
