New on the front page: See the five most-recently-edited games! Remember, you had this option before with the convenient gamelist dropdown available on most pages.

Also new on the front page: An About page! Hopefully confused visitors will have a better idea what's up now.

Coming soon: I'm considering using Project Wonderful ads as a way of funding Project Wonderful ads. If you're not familiar, take a look at the Dinosaur Comics website, which uses them. It provides a way to allow very targeted advertising for non-sleazy websites. I realize some of you are very adverse to ads, so if there is vehement objection to this, I'll nix the idea; otherwise, I was thinking of putting them on the forums page (http://www.slimesalad.com/forum). I think Project Wonderful is a very non-intrusive advertising system and I hope you'll agree. It's also an opportunity to pull in new blood.

I think the only ads that are really problematic are popups, those banner ads that expand, and anything else that gets in your face like that. I think Project Wonderful ads are all just plain images so I don't see how there could be a problem with them. But then I've even heard people complain about Google text ads so I dunno. Some people just hate ads I guess.

I have zero problems with the ads. Especially how discrete they are. I really don't think anyone has a right to complain about the ads. Web space ain't free. Anyone who hates it will get over it.

Well, it's not so much an issue of paying for the webspace (I've always done that and will continue to do so) as it is a means of paying for external advertising. It's also a means of advertising in and of itself, since potential advertisers will have the opportunity to look into the site.

I could also pay for the advertising out of pocket, but this way makes it more renewable.

I am normally anti-ad on principle, but I think project wonderful is one of the least-evil ad services out there. In fact, I would almost rate them as non-evil :)

And anybody who desperately hates ads should be using AdBlockPlus anyway :)

Actually, I have been experimenting with ads myself. I have scattered a few around on various Hamster Republic pages (not on any of the OHR related pages). I was surprised to find that something like 90% of the paying clicks all happened on my Vlad The Impaler history page, which is one of the oldest pages on the whole site. (I think it was mostly bored goth kids with their parent's credit cards ;)

There are ads? I think my web browser is blocking them.

Edit: Oh, you said you MIGHT get ads. Well, same principle applies.

There are already ads now. I inserted them, ninja-like, at the bottom of the main forum page. We have our first advertiser, though he's advertising for free right now.

Thanks :)

I still do write a little now and then

I disabled my adblock just so I could see the new ads. You know what I love about project wonderful? They tend to attract advertisers who are selling really crazy things. Absinthe Lollipops? Who thinks of that?

You can get the best of both worlds by adding @@|*.projectwonderful.* to your filters. Recommended!

After only a day? If you can find a way to make the ads pay for most of the site's hosting costs, that would be truly spiffy.
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.

Unlikely, but who knows? I'm up to $0.04 now. This is more than I'd hoped to make in two days.

$0.02 x 30 = $0.60
