The DON'T EAT SOAP bugs thread

Post by Bob the Hamster »

This is where I am going to track bugs for DON'T EAT SOAP. If you spot anything that isn't listed here, let me know.

----------
* Too many bubbles causes massive slowdown

----------
* When there are too many bubbles, and you have sufficiently massive slowdown, the game crashes when popping them all (although the crashing part never happens for me)

----------
* Under certain conditions Misa can end up with -1 lives. Under what conditions?
spoonweaver wrote: I figure the picture might need explaining. First, I died, in 1 player mode, and got like 5th place in highscores, yay. Anyways, I restarted as Misa, but then noticed that was wrong and I don't want to use the wasd keys so I started bob up and began to play. A few random unexplained deaths later ( which i assumed was the wrong hampster dieing when one of them got hit, but I'm kind of unsure) I found myself not appearing on the screen, misa having -1 life, and still being able to blow bubbles.
-----------
<s>* When you continue, you do not respawn the same way as when you just lose a life. (this was mostly intentional, but not a good idea)</s>

-----------
* Wind patterns really suck on the "Lightening bolt" level, the one with four hoverbeavers trapped in the center. Bolts don't come out where you can get them unless you push them out with bubbles.

Are there any other levels where the wind patterns really suck?

-----------
Surlaw got stuck on the Mr Triangle boss. each time he would pop him, he would come back to life with full health. I have not heard if anyone else has reproduced this.

-----------
Something gets turned into something else bugs:
Momoka reported Bob turning into a lightening bolt bubble.

-----------
<s>If a player joins while transitioning between levels, strange things can happen. Rurouni Catholic reports Misa walking back and forth endlessly after Bob got killed while killing the last monster on the level</s>

I have made a few fixes which are available at http://HamsterRepublic.com/dl/eatsoap.zip (I'll update the copies on slimesalad and castleparadox after I solve the other bugs)

I think Momoka reported Bob turning into a lightning bolt bubble, if I'm not mistaken.

It's not really a bug, but while you're messing with the game, can you make space bar continue for Bob as well as right-shift? Partially because it's intuitive, and partially because I'm on a computer with a fried right shift button.

My Honorable Kamikaze Bob killed his enemy while it killed him. I hit continue and instead of going to the next level, Misa showed up. She was so shaken by Bob's death that she wouldn't stop pacing, no matter how hard I tried getting her under control.

I already posted this as a reply to Momoka's review; I just put it here encase you didn't see it there.

Don't know if it's been reported or not, but I was able to clip outside of the walls by holding down spacebar to fire lots and lots of bubbles, and holding up to bounce off of them and right through the ceiling. I'm watching Bob fall forever now, while the enemies futilely try to get him. It's really rather relaxing.

Not a bug, but I love the way Bob trembles as the soap gets closer to his mouth.

The clipping problem is actually by design. In the original Bubble bobble game, there were clipping bugs that allowed you to pass through walls, especially when bubble-jumping. I tried hard to reproduce those bugs. There were certain levels in Bubble Bobble that were impossible to beat without bubble-jumping through walls or up through the ceiling.

I just put it there for information. I was hoping some other people might have been able to do the same thing.
