I dunno. If we do another, maybe a "throw a random unit onto every team" run, ie, everyone has to use at least one Mediator. Would need to think about the restrictions.

Tournament 5 Idea

Post by StoneMonkWisdom »

Tournament 5 Idea:

'Magic Contest'
All units in your party must have at least 1 spell to cast from any of the various magic classes. Then class limits would be... Wizard, Priest, Time Mage, Summoner, and Oracle. No limitations for having multiple units being wizards or whatever. Maybe a JP limitation to prevent some skills from being accessible like 499 JP means you have all skills of 499 or less as option to have.

Example of a Team:
- White Mage (Priest)
- White Mage2 (Priest)
- Black Mage (Wizard)
- Oracle

Oracles would godstomp under those rules. (Silence Song, Petrify vs High Faith Units, Berserk, Paralyze, etc)

Well, we must not forget about Ribbon, Golden Hairpin, and charge time... perhaps this idea isn't quite a good choice after all... >_>

Tier 1, and tier 2 classes only?

That would give us access to:
Squire
Chemist
Knight
Archer
Priest
Wizard

Then it would be low level, stats being about level 10, but of course making it look at least level 35 to 99. Abilities to be used, cost 199 or less for abilities. Reaction, Support, Movement abilities available for tier 1/2 only. Equipment till say end of chapter 1 are available, Shop only of course. An alternative to JP might be to give 500 to 600 points per class for use, making for a limit of abilities per class.

Naturally, the shop guide would come in handy as well as the various guides.

Example of Squire: (600 JP for use, buy any skills excluding any that cost more than 199, RSM are buyable regardless of JP cost, however, they take away from the 600 you start with. So buying Counter Tackle would result in only having 420 JP left to buy other abilities with.)

So let's say you have an Archer, his JP limit is 600, and buys Charge +2 at 150 JP leaving 450 left to spend. So you use the rest to get Arrow Guard as you wish to have that Reaction ability Equipped. No more abilities may be bought with this class. So for this unit you also want Magic Defend UP support ability, You spend 400 JP on it leaving only 200 for others stuff with the white mage (priest). You buy Protect and Shell because you want the Archer to cast either for support. Possibly a limit might be in order for having duplicate classes, or ability sets. or you could make it a pure class only thing where the units only get there own class abilities for use.

(Throwing ideas out there)

Seems like a bit too much trouble. I enjoy these tournaments for not taking a terrible amount of work to throw together a team, and having to choose how to spend JP isn't really conducive to that.

i think just basic rules restrictions like we did in the previous tournament with some of the rules revised. maybe be less restrictive on the rules, maybe do some 3v3 or 4v4 teams or another point based team. i think choosing how to spend jp for the people who havent playing ina while(me) or who havent played ever might have a hard time with getting the rules sets and understanding how to make the teams. thats my 2 slime
