Gontort looks at Kalar, then the red man and then back at Kalar. He puts his axe back in it's holster. "Alright Kalar, we'll do things your way."
However, the red man doesn't yield and instead attacks. "You're too soft!" The red man's scimitar slashes Gontort across his chest. Gontort flies into a rage as he draws his axe. "Don't interfere Kalar!"
The two go at it like gladiators in a ring. Gontort's axe slices into the red man and the red man's scimitar slashes at Gontort.

Tammytharn cautiously walks across the rune-tile room's floor, steeping only on the tiles in the center row that have lost their letters

Blast it! And he'd just convinced Gontort to get out of there...
Kalar steps back, deciding to not interfere as per Gontort's instructions. The dwarf is already annoyed at him as it is, wouldn't do to have him any angrier. He does resolve, however, to ask Hrulgin to paralyze the large man should Gontort come close to death.

Lynda and Tammytharn cross carefully over the tiles on the floor that have lost their letters. They arrives at the long ladder leading up to the black room. Sounds of battle can be heard up above.
Galse watches Tammytharn and Lynda go after Gontort and Kalar. Seems another impromptu encounter is brewing. Rachelle looks at Thistlewhistle and Galse, she's not the one that wanted to rest in the first place.
Gontort lunges at the red man. He comes up short thow and the red man counters with a vicious shield bash. Gontort's beard fills with smoldering cinders.
"Not mah beard! I give I give!"
"Ha," says the red man. "It takes a big man to know when he's beaten. You may pass through one of the hidden doors. Here." With that the red man waves his hand and a hidden door leading east opens.
The door leads to a 15' wide hallway with a red carpet running down the middle. Doors line the hallway.

Kalar breathes a sight of relief.
He looks at the others gathered and says, "Well, it seems that we won't be resting after all, as Gontort has decided we venture forward. Shall we proceed then?"

Lynda reaches Kalar and Gontort, just in time to see the battle end. She notices Kalar trying to drag away Gontort, who clearly instigated a fight. No matter, it was Lynda's time to try her hand at diplomacy.
"Greetings." Lynda says to the red man, with a polite curtsey. "I am Lynda. Would you be so kind as to share your name with me?"

Gontort shakes his beard as Lynda and Tammytharn enter the red room. Everyone keeps an eye on the red man as they look over the hallway.

"Hrulgin, I'm going to make sure that Gontort doesn't get us into any more fights. It seems that Lynda wants to try talking to this man, so do please keep an eye on her. If the man looks like he's going to attack, go ahead and paralyze him please. I'll be back shortly, soon as I get Gontort out of here."

"Hello little elf girl. My name is Mirach of the Brotherhood of the Sun. Now off you go." The red man gestures towards the open hidden door. He gestures a bit stronger as he sees that people aren't leaving.
Hrulgin silently nods to Kalar.

Kalar stands in the hallway, miffed that his original plan didn't play out as he intended. Still, it's perhaps a good thing that they don't have to face those plants that Rachelle talked about. The problem is, he now has no idea where they are.
It would seem that there are a lot of doorways in the hallway. Lacking any minions though, it would be a good idea perhaps to wait for someone else to scout ahead.

"Why are you in such a rush to be off with us? I merely want to talk." Lynda says politely. "So, why is it that you're tucked away here? It's awfully out of the way."

The red man sighs. "I'm not "tucked away", this is one of the more accessible rooms in the castle and it's very near one of the main entrances. It's not out of the way at all. Now, I'm actually being nice and letting you pass because I respect your friend, but I'm being paid quite well to guard this entrance by Claude Clover."
A notion seems to come to the red man. "While we're on the subject, don't enter the room right across from this hidden door. Also, if you meet Claude, I suggest you behave yourself. Now on your way, I don't feel like answering a bunch of questions from a group of adventures today."

"Very well. Thank you for your time, Mirach. I'll be on my way then." Lynda says. She gives a bow, and then departs through the secret door.
"He works with one of the Clover kin?" Lynda thinks. "Oh great. Hopefully if I meet this guy he's receptive to my diplomacy."
With that, she decides to peer in to the door at the end of the hall, on the right of the secret doorway coming from the red room.

Lynda peers into the room at the end of the hall. This room is another foyer. You notice that the gray mist still surrounds the castle. Inside the room are six 3' tall humanoids with pasty gray-green skin, large saucer-shaped eyes and pointed ears. They all seem to be lounging in odd ways. One of them waves.
