The coin splashes into the shallow pond. The coin produces an odd ripple when it hits the bottom of the pond. Was it magic?

Strange...
Kalar ponders whether or not he should try to Detect Magic on it. However, considering what he suspects is a ludicrously high level of background magic in the area, it might prove to be just as useless as back in the hall of mirrors.
Instead, he decides to just wait until Lynda decides to try getting at the chest. Should she fail to do so though, he'll throw in his old, banged-up caltrops (covered in horrible, nasty, smelly, spider-gunk) into the pool to see if something happens should anything other than money be thrown in.

With Lynda not sure what she should do, Kalar tosses caltrops into the pond. The bottom of the pond quivers as the caltrops land on it.
Galse takes a moment to look around at things other than the fountain.
(Galse Spot/Search Check)
There's a large hill nearby that blocks a the view of most of the area to the left of the path up ahead. The trees in this area are mostly oak trees.
Galse notices a few green squirrels darting about in the trees collecting acorns. He watches them for a while, considering their odd color. When one of the squirrels touches an acorn, the acorn appears to turn into gold. The squirrel then gathers up the golden acorn and carries it to a nearby hole in the trunk of a large gnarled tree.

Well. That's strange.
"Heads up lads, I think there's something definitely wrong with the pool. Bottoms of ponds don't usually quiver like that when something hits them."
Sensing an opportunity, he says to Silas, "You're a smart fellow, aren't you? Any idea what's in there? Might be a good idea to take a closer look."

Damn! Why did acid face guy have to die? Acid face guy would've loved this. Is it more agonizing to be turned to gold by a squirrel or to get a face full of acid from breaking a safe? These thoughts are too philosophical for Galse. "Those green squirrels are turnin stuff into gold." he says to no one in particular. "Nobody pet any squirrels". Galse smiles to himself. It's not often you get to quote Campfire Rule #224.

Kalar hears Galse talk about green squirrels (and wonders if perhaps the drunkenness from the earlier banquet had any sort of side effects) and decides to trust Galse's information. Besides, even if Galse were hallucinating, it wouldn't do any harm not to agree with him. And if he wasn't hallucinating, then it was a good warning. Kalar had no intentions of turning any of his equipment (or limbs) into gold.
He looks at Lynda and says, "You hear that? Stay away from the squirrels. I know you hate the things, but it'll probably be better to save your arrows. Golden arrows won't do us any good down the road."

Thistlewhistle lookes up to the gargoylesand the fountain, around the room and back at his drawing paper. "Squirrles?" mutters the gome. "I thought there were called Gargoyles..."

Hearing Thistlewhistle muttering to himself, Kalar says to him, "Ah, gnome, if I recall correctly, you like to dabble in collecting stories and poetry, am I right? Do you have any idea about any of this? Or about green squirrels turning things into gold?"

"Uh, guys." Lynda says, slightly backing away from the fountain.
"I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but the bottom of the pond just moved again. There's...something in there."

Silas goes to look at the fountain. He nearly steps into the pond as Lynda warns the party. The bottom of the pond rises. Galse and Thistlewhistle stop looking at the squirrels to focus on the clear and present danger. A large ooze emerges from the pond and lunges at the party nearly missing Silas. Several tentacles expand from the ooze and quiver. The ooze is attacking.

While Kalar is sorely disappointed that the ooze missed Silas, he does know that there will be ample opportunities later on to deal with the shifty sorcerer.
Not entirely sure how to combat the thing, never having fought an ooze before, he decides to take no chances and will instead keep his distance. He readies his shield and calls on his divine power to inspire the others in combat while he stays well out of it unless it's necessary for him to intervene.
"Thistlewhistle, get Silas out of there! Lynda, shoot it down! Galse, do whatever you do best!"
