Voulton gives him a wave. "Sleep well? Kalar should have Lynda roused any time now." He turns to the necromancer and gives him a friendly reminder: "Don't forget to take her amulet off."

Yep, any time now. Things are finally goin well.

Rob decides that he is going to let Voulton take the lead in talking with Dan.

A night of sleep left him feeling a little better about trusting his father's advice about the relics, but also left him wanting very much to avoid getting in the middle of any Dan-Kalar arguments.

Rob looks again over the magic books he identified yesterday. Most of them seemed more like Kalar's cup of tea, but "The Codex of Sale" did catch his eye, so he picks it up and tries to read at least enough to get the gist of what it is all about.

EXP:
Level 12's get 5230
Level 11's get 7570
Level 10's get 11200

The party was up and ready in moments. Rob began reading through a book rather than greet his father. As Kalar prepared to heal Lynda, Rob found the book seemed to be a catalog of items, complete with prices and detailed descriptions. It took only minutes for Rob to understand that things could be purchased from the book through some sort of ritual.
Dan sat down in a chair and began writing in a book and reading from another as it floated nearby.

Rob notices what his father is doing. He gets up and finds two more books, picking up the The Sublime Codex of Duna and the The Enchiridion of Kurda. He pretends to be reading all three at the same time.

The Codex of Sale actually seems super interesting all by itself, so after figuring out what the other two books are about, Rob will go back to reading that one, while still keeping up the ridiculous pretence of reading all three.

The Sublime Codex of Duna seems to explain easy ways to use complex items. Rob figures if he read the whole book he'd understand a lot more about how to use magical devices. The Enchiridion of Kurda seems to explain the complexity of magical travel. Rob has never seen magic expanded into such detail. It would take a while but after reading this Rob thinks he'd be able to cast spells he might never be able to otherwise.
Rob looked up form his three books, with a bit of a superior feeling to see Dan with five books none floating around him as he wrote.

Oh, that's how it is going to be? Rob thinks to himself.

He randomly picks four more of the books, and brings them over, pretending to read seven, while he is actually learning what the four other books are about.

The ones he has examined closely are incredibly fascinating already, and Rob suspects he will be spending a lot of his downtime reading in the near future.

Kalar, having stayed up all night working on his new magic item seemed aware of Dan being there. Voulton picked up The Undead Book of Durin, can could find no way to open it. The Fell Articles of Banor was equally unopenable. Voulton was getting a bit frustrated. The Celestial Grimoire of Ukrad proved openable. It seemed to lay out the frudamentals of magic in very understandable terms. Voulton thinks he might be able to learn magic if he read this book.
Rob found The Erin Slates unreadable. The Bifur's Parchments seemed to be a historical record. The Fiendish Fragments of Gimli detailed brutish ways to fight and seemed to be about the ways of being a devilish fighter. The Fiendish Incunabulum of Gamin, seemed unopenable. Symbols on the cover hinted to Rob that the secret to opening the book could be seen in a mirror.
Rob looked up to see more than twenty books orbiting Dan. Rob caught Dan glancing over at him for a second with a smirk.

Rob rotates his seating so his back is facing Dan. Then he focuses on reading The Enchiridion of Kurda

"I thought magic would be way harder than this." Voulton says, gesturing to the book. "No wonder they're so worried about it, if you can just pick up a book and learn the rules! Is that how you guys learned?"

Kalar removes the amulet from Lynda and then casts Restoration and Neutralize Poison. Hopefully, that will be enough.

He looks up to see Dan there and approaches. He then casts Zone of Truth.

"Very well, let us begin. Voulton, if you would speak for us."

"I thought the whole point was to give Lynda a chance to speak for herself? As far as I'm concerned the Sword belongs to her and quest or no quest we've got no right to give it away without her consent."

"She may need some time to rest. Thus far, you have proven yourself to be the most impartial and level-headed speaker amongst us. If I were to speak for us, anything I say would be colored by how I feel about this entire thing. The floor is yours."

Voulton grumbles "That's the worst part about workin' alone in the woods with men with axes: You learn how to mind your tongue." He mumbles indecipherably before continuing: "The crux of this seems to be the Sword. We need it for its ability to slay things and slightly less for its flight. You're afraid it'll fall into the wrong hands. We're afraid that if we give it you, we'll never get it back or that we'll have put it into the wrong hands."

He thinks a second, wanting to get this just right.
"So if we want to come to an agreement it seems like you need to let us know that nothing bad will happen with the sword and that we'll get it back when we're ready to perform the ritual. And we need to convince you that we're not going to hock it for a bunch of beef jerky and that we're really in this quest for the right reasons. You wanna do it this way? I ask a question and then you can ask a question."

He turns to the others. "If any of you have a question on our turn, go ahead and ask it. I'm not comfortable being the only voice in this. It's too important for me to screw up."

He then turns back to Dan: "If it's okay with you, let's start with this: You said you'd leave it with the Silver Dragon. Who is the Silver Dragon and what interest does he have in the sword?"

Lynda looked like she was back to the peak of health. She remained sleeping though, with a smile on her face. Rachelle had just woken up and Claire was still sleeping next to Lynda. Rachelle found Rob and Voulton reading on the ground near an assortment of books. Kalar was conversing with Voulton, trying to get him to talk things out with Dan.
Dan took a moment to finish his reading and note taking before responding. "So, we're finally ready. I will start by saying everything I said yesterday was true."
"The silver dragon is an adventuring friend of mine who entered the castle with me long ago. He has since found a following among the people here who worship him as a god. He is the most trustworthy being I have ever met. You'll meet him later if we can come to some sort of agreement here. What other questions do you have?"
