"Let's continue forth." Lynda says. "For the sake of Bill, finding Kalar's stuff, seeking Naithaire, and acquiring more...stuff."

"And getting home!", Voulton adds.

"And getting to the bottom of some mysteries. Let's go!"

The night had past uneventfully and the party had continued their journey. Early that day, the party came across what used to be La Frenaie. There was nothing but ruined stone buildings and smashed thatch roof cottages. There seemed to be no one remaining in the destroyed village.
The party slowed a bit, and looked at each other, deciding whether to spend time there or not.

"I'm down for it." Lynda says. "But if I'm the only one who wants to visit there, then don't bother."

"I'm willing to look around for a bit," Rachelle replied. Even if the search came up with nothing, it would at least be good to have a relatively safe place to fall back towards, if their current target proved to be too much of an adversary for them in their current state.

Even if there wasn't much left to defend against the elements, or indeed anything else, right now.

"Might indeed be a good idea to stop for a while, if only for an hour or so. Give the animals a rest, and allow us to catch a breather as well."

Kalar turns to Voulton and asks, "Friend Voulton, I was wondering. You have skill with woodcraft, would you be able to fashion me a mask out of wood? Nothing too ornate, just a simple face with slots to see and breathe through. I have a little trinket in mind, but I need the base item with which to work with."

Was going to make an item for Voulton that gave a bunch of combat bonuses, but turns out Kalar doesn't have enough money to do so. Going to make this instead:

Mask of Dark Power

As a standard action, the wearer of this mask can order anyone within 25 ft. To flee upon uttering the command word "fugio". Should the creature fail a DC 17 will save, it do so for 1 round. The affected creature may do nothing but move during its turn, and it provokes attacks of opportunity for this movement as normal. There is no limit to the number of times this can be done in a day.

Spell Used: Command
Spell Level: 1
Caster Level: Lowered to 1

Command word: 1 (spell level) × 1 (caster level) × 1,800 gp = 1,800 gp
Require Alignment (Evil): 1,800 gp - 30% = 1,260 gp
Arbitrary (Only one command available, unlike the spell's five.): 1,260 gp - 5% = 1,197 gp

Final Cost: 1,197 gp & 48 xp

Voulton's face shines with happiness: "I can do that. You know, we used to make masks all the time back home when we were supposed to be working. You'd come in to start your day, say hi to the guy you're replacing and HOLY slime HIS FACE IS MADE OF WOOD!"

Good times! He's still kinda giddy when he looks around the town. "What happened to this place? It looks like it got punched to death. We should definitely look around though, maybe something didn't get punched." And with that, Voulton will start pokin around through the buildings looking for anything cool, or any decent wood to make the mask out of.

"Indeed, it does seem mysterious."

Kalar reaches into his pack and retrieves the skull he was managed to enchant. He raises it up into the air and says, "Deprendolum".

He slowly turns around in a circle, allowing the skull to view everything within a circle.

If there are any undead within a 60 ft. Cone, the eyes of the skull glow green. If there are no undead, the eyes instead glow red. The user can turn the skull around to search in other directions, but releasing or lowering the skull ends the spell. The skull does not, however, give any indication as to how many undead there are, only the presence of any.

The party begins poking around the destroyed village. Kalar detection of undead shows him that there are in fact undead nearby.

"Hold on, lads, there are undead nearby." Might want to get ready to fight, just in case.

Which direction was the skull pointing when the eye's changed?

Kalar thought for a moment and then noticed that the eyes on the skull had changed as they past Hrulgin. He felt rather foolish for a moment, of course there were undead nearby. Kalar was about to tell the others when 5 bloodhulks appeared from inside the ruins of a brick house. There had been other undead nearby after all.

Kalar holds out his holy symbol and channels energy through it.

"Fear me."

Hrulgin moves closer to Kalar, ready to jump in should his master be attacked. He's concerned though, his poisons won't have any effect on these things. He makes a mental note to ask Kalar for a better weapon later on.
