"Agreed, it would indeed be dangerous to attack once he has holed up. As for getting into one of us, I doubt it. He was a powerful necromancer, and I am sure jumping into a body that allowed for magical ability would have been preferable to one that cannot even talk."

Voulton feels totally lost. Yesterday a big battle, and today, chasing a manticore? Who might be a necromancer? Things are moving fast and yet not at all. How is this getting us closer to home?

Tonight, Voulton intends to pray for guidance.

He isn't sure who to pray to, isn't sure who will listen. A little bit worried how they'll react to what his dad did to those people (But in his defense, he thought they were sheep at the time) and frankly feels a little silly for trying.

"So..." Lynda says. "We're chasing down your manticore in hopes that it leads to Nathaire? It's an interesting route of option. I'm ready to head out whenever."

"Indeed. I won't deny that it is partially self-serving, but I will also not deny that there are many potential benefits for all of us. Information for one. Gaspard seemed to not be entirely honest with us and was hiding something. Moriamis was welcoming enough, but as you saw from her underlings, she was also hiding something. Sephora might have had answers, but she's dead. Helena would be a good choice, but we have no idea where she is. At least with Nathaire, we can force answers out of him. Doesn't matter how powerful a necromancer he is, everyone cracks sooner or later when the right... questioning methods... are used."

"Torture? I thought those weird wizard types were into that sort of thing? And is that who we are? I thought we were the good guys! Those villagers had money, think we oughta go back and take it?" Voulton shakes his head, this is nuts

"Who said anything about torture? There are various methods of questioning available that are far less crude than shoving slivers of wood beneath fingernails. Suffice to say that I have no intentions of torturing him, but I do have my own means of interrogation. Also, I do believe you've known me long enough to know that I am above petty theft from villagers."

The party had started on their journey to find Bill, Kalar's manticore zombie mount. Was it possessed by a necromancer or had it just gone wild for some reason? They hoped to soon find out as they traveled down the road. The road was full of rumble and uneven terrain, likely from the colossus' march down it not too long ago. The party had to come to an almost complete stop at times to either move debris or avoid newly formed ditches.

Both Lynda and Rachelle looked back as the town of Vyones began to fade into the horizon. They noticed a group of riders leaving the town and heading down the road towards the group. They couldn't tell for sure at this distance, but the riders seemed to be moving at great haste.

"What? You see something?" Voulton pesters Lynda while she tries to look through the spyglass.

Kalar stops working on his magic item and gets a spell ready to go. He won't attempt to negotiate with the riders though, preferring to leave it to one of the others in the party seeing as how he might be recognized as a magic user after the events of the previous day.

Through her spyglass, Lynda saw...
two dozen men in white robes. She could make out that three of them seemed to have the type of robes the man wearing the amulet that looked like hers wore. She couldn't tell yet if the three had amulets or not.

Kalar realizes being seen with the undead would be problematic, so he orders them to scatter into the woods just out of sight. He orders Hrulgin to climb up a tree and shadow them from the treetops, ready to pounce on any potential attackers.

After tossing around some profanity, Lynda composes herself.

"Inquisitors. Two dozen. Coming our way." Lynda says briskly. "Oh no, they're definitely going to question me...or worse."

"We did just save the town. They'd have to be crazy to punish us for that. I wonder though... how do *they* feel about torture?"

"Two dozen?" Asks Rob. He had been itching for a confrontation with the Inquisitors, but now that it is happening, he wonders how many of them he can take at one time.

After a moment's thought he suggests "I wonder if there is any chance they are riding after Natheire instead of after us?"
