Lynda sat down on the floor in the house, and covered herself with her fur coat. She took out her scepter and idly waved it around. She looked at the were-children and sighed.

"Y'know, when I signed up for this adventure" Lynda says to nobody in particular "I expected to face all kinds of horrible things. I never thought I'd encounter something like this. If we can't cure them...hell, even if we do cure them, what happens? We can't disembark yet until we sort something out...right?"

Lynda then takes out her jeweled cup and begins to examine it.

"You guys think there's anything valuable in that chest?"

Kalar got a simple reply. "The same."

Lynda decides to go over and try and pick the lock to the chest.

How vague.

Kalar heads back to the rest of the party. He sees Lynda looking at the chest. "My dear, if you want to open that, I have something that might aid you."

Kalar reaches into his pack and retrieves his masterwork thieves' tools and gives them to Lynda.

He then turns to Tammytharn and whispers, "We need to talk. In private, if at all possible. Doesn't need to be now, but the sooner the better. It concerns both of our deities."

"*IF* we can't cure them, there's only one thing to do with them, sad as it might be. They aren't responsible for what they are, but neither are the people who they'd victimize. They'd start with chickens, move up to sheep. The odd farmer or hunter. And then what? What's Mrs. Killdeer gonna do on that full moon, when her husband wakes up, turns into a dog and kills their lovely family? We've seen where this story ends. And as gruesome as what I'd have to do would be, it's better than what happened at that apple cart. Better than what happened to those cows and farmers and better than that army who attacked us on our way in. Consider it a heroic sacrifice on their part." is what Voulton says, though he isn't very happy about it. Hopefully it won't come to that.

"And that is why we teach them not to do so. We have enough food to last them until we get back. I vote that we take them back through the portal. Perhaps we can have Moriamis reincarnate them as she did with me. Either way, they are a potential resource, and they may yet be of use to us."

To her delight, Lynda unlocks the chest. It opens and doesn't seem to be trapped, much to the werewolf children's (who the chest was aimed at) delight. Inside the chest, Lynda found:
  • 1,080 gold coins
    569 platinum coins
    2 medium diamonds
    3 emeralds
    a ruby
a wand (markings hint at this holding a cure spell)
a wand (markings hint at this being a lightning bolt wand)
and a ring (markings suggest a ring of the ram)

"A resource? Of use to us? What does that even mean?!" Voulton is starting to wonder if they'd be better off dead than as part of the zombie manticore skeleton brigade. "Reincarnation is a good idea, but how the hell are we going to get them back there without them hurting anyone?"

To answer that problem, Voulton starts looking for wood working tools. There's a chance the spell may yet work, and all this has been for nothing. But if not, they'll be needing a way to safely transport and feed dangerous prisoners on their trip. A basic cart with a sliding slot through which food can be passed. There's plenty of trees, plenty of time, and Voulton figures he'd be able to put one together without too much trouble, if needed.

"Ooh!" Lynda says excitedly.

She takes the contents of the chest, and puts on the ram ring.

"If anyone wants a wand, feel free to ask."

"Actually, I would be rather interested in the money. With it, I can fashion us various items that will certainly be of aid to us."

"The coins?" Lynda says. "Oh, sure. Take what you need, I guess."

Tammytharn is disappointed that the spell had failed... But she had already prepared the other spells, so she went ahead and attempted to cure the four older children. If even one succeeded, it would be a small measure of success.

For the moment, she ignored Kalar's request to speak to her alone. He seemed busy with other things.

Then, remembering the powerful message she had received from Rao, she takes out the mercurial potion. She puts one drop on her holy symbol, and she smears a second drop on her own forehead

Kalar sees Tammy about to open the potion and grabs her wrist. "It is about that potion that I need to speak with you. I've had contact with my deity, and you mustn't use that potion yet. Even a drop. It is imperative for all of our survival."

Lynda stands to face Tammytharn and Kalar.

"Woah woah woah, come now children, no need for such quarrels." Lynda says, waving her scepter. "Imperative to all our survival? That's a pretty important thing to throw out there, Kalar. You two may be quite religious, but if this is affecting all of us-"

Lynda points her scepter to the potion.

"-What's so important about it that divine intervention was needed to bring it to our attention?"

"Very well." Tammytharn frowns and restoppers the bottle. But she takes her time about trying to cure the other children before she follows Kalar to hear what he has to say in private.
