Galse steps out into the hall and stretches, relieved that they aren't being besieged by a numerically superior hostile force.

Kalar observes the skeleton, trying to see what else he can learn from it. Specifically, what sort of undead it might be.

Lynda backs up from the skeleton. She is wary of this thing, as it's associated with Vecna, and after the Silas incident...
"You clearly have some sentience, and it's not from the sharp witted sword. How did you come to inhabit this skeleton and overtake the blade?"

Kalar can't see this thing as anything besides a skeleton. His knowledge of such things fails him at this moment. It must be more than a skeleton because it's talking and yet he's never heard of anything like this other than a skeleton. He did see some intelligent skeletons through that portal before, so he figures it must just be one of those.
Lynda's question seems to have been ignored. The skeleton stands unmoving in the center of the room near an empty caldron.

Galse scratches his chin out in the hall. "He's got the right idea though. I mean, if there's a way out of here, you'd be crazy not to take it. Think we oughta go back and give everyone else a shot?"

Galse kicks the wall idly. "For that matter, why hasn't anyone else volunteered? I'd sleep on a nest of fire ants if I thought it'd get us out of here. Everyone and their brother should be climbing out of the woodwork to get out of this place!"

"Hmm, very well, if you will not answer my questions, there is nothing I can do."
Kalar considers his options. He doesn't want to stay here, especially as battered as they are. That would be a way to get killed.
"Skeleton. We shall leave this room for now, as we must locate some other item first. We shall return here when we are ready to leave though, so you can wait here if you wish. I would, however, feel much better were you not armed such, and if you are amenable to it, I would request you turn over your sword."

"I have need of this sword, you can not have it. What item do you seek?"

Thinking quickly, Kalar says "Anything that will give us information regarding this curse or that gate."
It is not exactly a lie, as he does indeed seek such information.

"The gate would be the best source of information on itself. Let us go there."

"You have not been too forthcoming with information thus far, I believe you will forgive my not taking your word now."

"No need to be so curt with everyone! It's no wonder everything in here has tried to kill us so far."

"I will answer any of your questions once through the gate. Till then I will only answer one more, to the best of my abilities."

"One question then? Very well..., I will listen to your answer, but we shall see if convinces me that we should go through the gate at once. Who or what are you?"

When the skeleton bearing Vecna's mark appeared, Tammytharn calmed down and stopped crying.
She began again to study the book, especially the passages she had mispronounced.
She decides not to speak to the skeleton at all.
Thinking about Lynda's comment about the small non-magical statue, Tammytharn wonders what would happen if she tests the stone cure on a statue of an animal that was never alive.
She still wants to save Rachelle, but after the failure with Gontort, she wouldn't dare attempt it until tomorrow when she can use another casting of Read Magic.
