"Just SHOOT first and ask questions LATER" says Tammytharn angrily, and then to Kalar, "What WERE you thinking?"
She looks at Hrulgin's wounds with a mixture of disgust and sympathy. "I don't think any of my healing spells will help you, you poor thing."

Kalar struggles to keep the apes off him, blocking the attacks with his tower shield while dodging attacks he can't. "In case you didn't hear, that fellow up there just threatened to kill our Lynda! You're free to help any time!"
Mid-battle banter, always a fun thing, heh

Lynda turned her aim at the little ape that was hanging around. Of the four arrows she shot, only one hit. The arrow sticks right through the little ape's chest. He seems to have taken a great deal of damage from it.
The apes still don't manage to hit Kalar and Kalar doesn't manage to hit them.
Lynda deals 4 dmg.

"STOP fighting you fools!" shouts Tammytharn, "The ape was ready to TALK, and you attacked ANYWAY! And LOOK! He hasn't let go of those chains! Just back off away from the apes before somebody gets KILLED!"
She hopes she is right, and that the little ape will not drop the chains in response to hearing her say this.
Just in case, she reaches into her pack for a tanglefoot bag, in case she is charged by a crazed ape (or a crazed werewolf, or a crazed ghoul)

Kalar fights through the TEAR! KILL!now maddening bloodlust, trying to force it down. A lifetime of suppressing his emotions helps here but blood! BLOOD! BLOOD! it is difficult.
He manages though, just barely, and moves back, keeping his shield between himself and the apes. He makes no further move to attack. "Very well." he says to Tammy.
He looks up at the ape on the chandelier and shouts out (just barely managing to prevent it from turning into a snarl or a roar) "My comrade here believes we can settle this without further bloodshed. What say you? We are not Clovers, my friend here merely took the clothes."
Kalar thinks quickly, mind racing with the effort of keeping the bloodlust in check. "The truth is she killed a Clover. You have my word on that." Which is absolutely true, so giving his word on that is not a problem. "She took these clothes as a trophy." He leaves out that the clothes were -not- from the dead Clover, but he never gave his word that they were. He just hopes the ape will take it that way.

The apes cease their fruitless assault on Kalar. The little ape leaps to the stage and hides behind some of the bigger instruments. He reels in the chains and the apes form a tight circle around him.
"Go away!" cries the little ape.

Tammytharn is amazed and impressed that Kalar listened, and pleased that the fighting has stopped.
"Come on, let's get out of here and close the door!"
She puts her hand on the door to close it, after Lynda, Kalar and the ghoul exit (if they do agree to exit)

Go away? This little creature was telling them to go away? The nerve of it... Why, it would be so easy to tear into its flesh, rip it apart limb from limb, feast on its entrails. It's just waiting to be devoured, it is prey, ready for the slaughter, and--
Kalar shakes his head, forcing the bloodlust down. This was not him, this was the affliction thinking. He was a pragmatic, he was cool-headed. He would not let his emotions get the better of him. A lifetime of suppressing emotions would not get thrown away because of some silly curse.
"We will leave, but you threatened us first. We deserve to know who you are and what you're doing here. Answer me, and then we shall go."

"No. Go away," says the little ape.

"He's not important. He doesn't matter." says Tammytharn to Kalar, of the Ape.
She really wants to close the door, but will wait until everybody is out of the room.

Kalar growls, frustrated. "I will remember this, little one."
With that, he leaves the room.

With that, Lynda gives a disgruntled hair flip, a stern "Hmph", and then exits the room with Kalar.

"Let's head back to the others. We'll tell them about King Stephen, and then we can figure out what to do from there."

When Tammytharn and the others arrived back at the lab they found it empty. Thinking ahead though, Galse had left the door open so he was able to get their attention and show them their new base. Many stories were shared.

After summing up their encounters, Kalar continues:
"Right lads, we're not in very good shape. We've lost Ardan, Gontort, Silas, and Yauntor. I am deprived of my spellcasting and am prone to violent outbursts. Lynda cannot be affected by magic so she can't be healed. And Thistlewhistle is still asleep.
Kalar gestures to Tammytharn "Right now, Tammy is our only spellcaster until I can find a way to restore myself. With Gontort gone, our best front-line fighters are Rachelle and possibly myself. We have scouts in Lynda and with Hrulgin. Galse is doing well in watching over our supplies and over Thistlewhistle. We could be worse, but so far I believe we still have a shot at breaking this curse.
"I propose that everyone settles in for now, then we can set out later to find that last key and open the Gate. I'll head off with Hrulgin for a while though, I have a promise to keep to Charles in getting his books to him. If either I or Hrulgin are not back within a couple of hours, assume that we're both dead and carry on. I take my leave of you now."
With that, Kalar leaves the room. He does not, however, head straight for Charles. He still needs to get the 25,000 gold pieces, but has no way to carry it. To do that, he'll need some minions.
He sets off for the room with the portal to the Ghoul Lands, intending to gather some minions under his control. With no spellcasting available to him because of his distended vocal chords and with no way to magically raise the dead, he will need something to even the odds.
