I think Woz wants to make the OX-NJ rail line underground so as not to interfere with the scenery. However, I don't think any of us would be opposed to a never-before-seen rail line that goes above the clouds!
... But anyway, I haven't been able to dig for much iron at all lately. I can't even finish the half-done Tree Farm rail line, which was supposed to save time during village construction, but that never happened.

An underground rail line makes a lot of sense for that area. The trouble with an above-the-clouds skyrail is that even if the main rail was up out of sight, the uplink and downlink to the stations would be visually conspicuous.

I like the idea of a subway similar to the one that goes from Creeperton to the Pyramid/Stargate.

I have never built a subway before, but with a map it should be easy.

I figured you could make the hypothetical cloud-rail descend by way of one of Woz's super-tall towers, with the rail itself spiraling, or we could build a new tower specifically for it.
A subway is good too, and there's something I've been wanting to do for a while: Have a large underground tunnel, with the rail going down the middle, and surround it with slab floors so that mobs can't spawn. Put pressure rails in certain locations on the track and link them to Redstone Lamps in front of and behind you so that the tunnel lights the way in front of you as you go, in either direction.

I am totally on board with either idea, but let's check and make sure Woz hasn't already made a bedrock railway so that we don't waste any rails.

I'm still carving it! There is one between the Woodlouse and NJ, and I'm going to connect Ox to it very shortly.

Are you sure about that? I was wandering around lost down there once, and eventually surfaced at Oxford. So many forks, dead ends, mining offshoots, and caverns. It also goes almost all the way to Giz's ranch.

For those of you who haven't yet seen it: http://realtimerendering.com/erich/mine ... /mineways/

This is very cool. It's very tempting to print out some creations!

And, the wider educational and industrial applications of minecraft in a serious context are greatly expanded by a tool such as this.

Mineways sounds so cool!
I played with it a little, but I haven't attempted to have anything printed yet.

Also, I found a *much* nicer map rendering tool, pigmap. Here is our world map in Google Maps format: http://minecraft.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrss/ (you have to zoom in a bit before you can see it)

Wha ha ha! That's incredible. Wozzeck's new cathedral sticks out like a sore thumb. The Starlight Stonghold, Keble and Oxford, Giz's super farm, they all look great.
And, hey! I see a lone portal at the top of a distant mountain range! I think that's where I got lost and left a bunch of treasure months ago! It's still in a chest, I hope, so now I have a means of navigating back to it! Thanks, James!

The new map is AMAZING. When I get the time, I bet I can find two or three camps that I... misplaced. Lots of cool looking stuff out there, too!

Yes, we do. I hoped that would have been obvious to newcomers. To make sure there's no confusion, I'm changing the original post to lay out this fact in no uncertain terms.
PM James for the server IP and to get whitelisted! We always welcome new company to our lovely server. As long as you don't take valuable treasures from personal stashes without permission. And get a minecart as soon as possible, it's pretty much necessary to navigate the vast expanses of the server world.

I'd rather drink crack-potions lvl 2s. It's quicker. And funner in the end, imo. I've never been too keen on minecarts...but will do, if I maybe have time I'll try to get some little hut set up somewhere random.

I just thought I would share this shot of the Woodlouse, click to see full size:

Image

It gives a much greater sense of the build than can really been seen ingame, or from the back.

Wow, looking at that image I realise that all 3 of my "big" constructions are in a near perfect straight line... how did I do that without a point of referance?

(Also, the cabin I made in the woods is much bigger than I thought it was :S)

When I have the time, I have to get back to this map it's always a blast... my current spur of productivity has offset my beloved procrastination. xD
