What are they fighting?
I cannot see anything!
Please apply some contrast.

Bats!
Is anyone else having that problem with the Screenshot, or is it just him?
I was exaggerating a little bit for the sake of a haiku, but it's still a bit hard to distinguish. Would you consider using a light gray or brown palette, or perhaps a light-colored outline? Or is this supposed to be deliberate and atmospheric? I could dig that. I could see the cursor point to an enemy and not know how many of that enemy I'm facing, which would be pretty cool for a scary or suspenseful dungeon.
It probably won't make that much of a difference in the end; I like what I see and I definitely want to play this game when it's released.

Just two reminders to give you guys:
1. Tomorrow is the absolute last day you can place your bugfix / feature requests for James. If you haven't placed one yet, do not procrastinate any longer -- you are out of time.
2. You have one month left to post the initial release of your entry. You'll still have an additional week to make any last minute changes you might need to perfect what you have, but if you plan on entering, you must post within the next 31 days to qualify.
Good luck on the final stretch. I hope more of you will start hyping up your entries soon. I'm interested to see what you all are planning to put out here.

Shoot, I'd totally forgotten about the bug bounties! I just reset my account on the wiki and edited the
request list, with my request being
Raise a sprite frame limit. I'll take any frame expansion, but I'd like more frames for walkabouts sooner than, say, weapon sprites.

I think it is just because the floor tile is dark blue with a black outline and the bats are black outline and dark grey in color. So they blend in. I'll fix it by making the bat's grey a little lighter.

edit:
oh yes! I was forgoting my bug/feature request so here it goes.
A bitset that a enemy only dies with a critical hit.

When your enemy dies, "spawn" a new one in its place with 1hp that can only be hit by attacks with the "critical" element. Should do what you want.
Also something about transmogrifying but I haven't used that at all and have no idea how it works.

Oh, man, I am so far behind on my bugfixes. I am going to have to get cracking, or I will owe five bucks to a whole bunch of people!
@misac: <s>I don't really know how to do that request as a built-in feature, since there isn't even a built-in feature for critical hits (unless you count chaining, in which case you can already do it)</s> Now that I think about it in terms of chains, this is actually a very reasonable request.
When I have added on-death bequest attacks, this will get even easier.
Make an enemy with an on-death bequest attack that revives itself. This enemy will be unkillable.
Name one of your elementals "Critical", and give it to the critical hit part of your attack chain.
Make the enemy do a counter-attack to Critical elemental.
The counter-attack should be a self-targeted attack that transmogrifies the enemy into a version of itself that does *not* have the self-reviving on-death bequest attack.
There are a few other ways to do this, but that is the way I am excited about because it uses the new on-death bequest feature. :)

I use chains involving 3 moves for my critical hits. The first attack selects the target, the second will randomly choose either the critical hit version of the attack or the normal version.
...I so hope I can get AR-PUH-GUH! out this month...

James, speaking of bugfix / feature requests, it seems that you have the same request from both MasterK and mjohnson092088. Is this correct?
Misac got his request in under the wire and also released his game, so we can include him on the bounty chart as someone who's due the request or the bounty.
@Misac: Is Reign of Grelok a rerelease from before June 1st? I recall you talking about it long before then, but I don't recall whether you've released it before then. I do see a May 31st date on your game page (with one day short of the contest window, I think it would be a little unfair to move you into the rerelease catergory on account of a handful of hours, so I'll mark you as a June 1st release if this is the first time it's been publicly released). Let me know.
I'll update the list of contest releases soon.

Actually, the May 31 version was just the base of the game(first quest and some scenarios), with the update at October, I added more history and the final scene(s), and I'm sorry about doing everything on the last moments, I even finished the game the day I updated it (31 of October), now i'm just hunting bugs here and there. And sorry for the "bogus"(if that's the correct word) Request, I did never understand all this chaining, people tried to explain, but never got it right.
Edit:
also, mjohnson092088 was transmogrify on death, I requested it because I want to used the Crit atribute to do this, and stronger weapons adds more critical chance to the character atributes. But if you want I could request another one.

Yes, they both requested very slight variations on the same idea, and I decided to implement them both the same way.
The fact that they both wanted it let me know it was important. I implemented the feature this morning, and it is ready for testing in the latest nightly wip

SO! I had the following conversation with myself a couple days ago...
Me: Allright, two more plotscripts and I'll have enough to release for the HotOHR contest!
Other me: You'd have more if you actually WORKED on it.
Me: Shush you.
OM: Do you have a half hour's worth of content?
Me: Oh yeah, easily.
OM: Is it NEW content?
Me:.... um...
OM: Well?
Me: Does "remixed" count as new?
OM: Only to Capcom.
Me: ...ah... well this sucks, Hank.
OM: Yes it does, Dale.
SO! I decided I'm going to do something really really stupid, especially at this stage, and start on a new project (and maybe releasing Astroman anyway in hopes of squeaking by and winning the re-release category by default.) Because I both really want to enter, and also last time I checked, my feature request was one of two actually done allready, and I owe it to you, the people, to actually release something.
And because I really want to punish myself and take this old-school, I'm limiting myself to four maps, and going to do it all without one line of plotscripting.
Gentlemen, the Landstander approaches!
And if I can get away with making a request at this point, name boxes. Like portrait boxes, but for names.
