OHR FILM FESTIVAL CONTEST

It's terrible. No doubt about it. But it's well done awful. It's sad that I created a character with those motives when I was a teenager. I've since tried to give the shape more respectable roles. Heck, in Triangle's Maze there's no profanity at all. But I suspect if I want to give him the more serious roles, it's probably smartest to remove the Bundle Pack and maybe just put Triangle5 up.

I have nothing against B-Movies by the way
Perhaps RMZ could create an alternative, serious Triangleman. The Hamsterspeak 43 cover had a good idea going (even if it is still cartoonish), so maybe you could just make a tall, muscular man who happens to sport a triangular motif on his head.Mogri wrote:We are talking about a man who is shaped like a triangle.
I just don't really think the character is conducive to serious roles.
Wait, that's already been done hasn't it.
(Also since when was this the OHR B Movie Contest)

Make an OHR A Film and we'll talk. It hasn't been done.

I'm not worried about changing his look. I know what he started at, but I mean, I'm making him better. It's obvious based on the projects I've been working on. But sadly, we can't escape our newbie games no matter how hard we try.

Heh, random semi-related quoting/tidbits on my game from last year, Duck, on the subject of revisiting old work:
"You're right about one thing. We can't run from the past anymore. I should have known it when my powers started coming back [...] We've been running away from what made us great to begin with [...] OUR ADVENTURING. The world looks so much less mature when we hold [it] in our hands again, but is that really such a bad thing? I feel power coursing through my veins once more. When I'm like this, I can take on anyone. Even you."
~ Duck
Duck then tries to heal Bunny, who had gone mad with living in the past, but Bunny tells him he must move on. That's really what it's all about. Often our most original ideas are our first, and they can say a lot to us. The past is a part of you, and no matter how embarrassing it may be, it's something you have to accept. Once you have, you become a better artist, you can build a brighter future, and you can make better games. At least that's what I think.
Bravo, RMZ, for getting it. A few years ago you probably would have raged, amirite?

I am interpreting "Triangle" as a satire. it does deliver a condemnation of homophobia, even if it delivers it with the back side of a shovel to the viewer's face.
I really like the Mr Triangle that appears in OHR House Heroes, and I think that is the real him. The themes in Mr Triangle's early games (which I have actually never played) are troubling, but I see Mr Triangle as a character who has grown up, and put his past behind him.
I am still working on my own OHR Film. It is slow going. I might have bitten off more than I can chew.

This is exactly what bothers me, telling someone to move on from something awful they made ten years ago and have acknowledged plenty of times just feels bitter. The satire would work better if it wasn't so harshly personal.James Paige wrote:I see Mr Triangle as a character who has grown up, and put his past behind him.
Alot of people haven't played the older games. Probably most new users are more familiar with the House Heroes rendition, which is just a snarky sarcastic jerk. The older games, ya, they're awful and portray things I thought were funny when I was immature. But I don't think there's anything wrong at all with not changing my character's design but making him grow up like how I have. Isn't this what happens to children? In movies characters grow. What makes this form of media any different to the point where people just can't accept that's who Mr. Triangle was at one point. He's not that anymore. I've heard people being embarassed of having him on covers, but I'm honestly proud of the fact that I took one of the most offensive characters on this engine and have been trying to put him in a different light to put him in games that are fun and unoffensive so that future gamers can play them and see the Mr. Triangle I want them to see. Would you want to go apply for a job as the immature teenager who threw rocks at other kids, or would you want to apply for that job as a matured indivudal. I can drag this on and on and get this thread off topic. But this is just something that's bothered me for a while. I didn't take offense to the movie. You're making fun of Mr. Triangle and what he was. I get it. I found the humor in it and even laughed.

I think I finally got a movie-game idea that I won't lose interest in before it's even halfway done. Right now I've got the first scene of the intro part done, and it's just about 50 seconds long. Nowhere near the 2 minute mark just yet, but hey, at least I'm past the "make graphics and a vague outline, then toss that idea and start over on a different one" stage!
(I only completely tossed one idea so far, by the way. My second one sort of directly led into my third one, and the one I'm actually making is just a sillier version of the third one.)

Yeah, I know this screenshot doesn't really say much of anything about the movie. XD I guess you could try to guess part of the plot from it or something?

A few words on Triangle (so don't read it if you haven't watched yet).
I was afraid that this would probably happen (and I figured it probably would), but I decided to go through with it anyway after showing JSH the script for comments. The satire is indeed the main point. I originally got the idea for this thing after all the hoolaboo about a certain other homophobic game, and thought it would be interesting (especially for a contest called a Film Festival) to make a game in the opposite vein since such a theme hasn't really existed in the OHR community. I especially liked the idea of using an established homophobic game against itself. I'd have liked to use the newer game instead for this purpose since it would have been more relevant, but I simply didn't get many good ideas for using those characters.
That said it's not false that there's a certain degree of bitterness in the game, I still don't like the frequent usage of Mr. Triangle in representing the OHR considering his background (even though modern depictions of the character are drastically different). I had hoped to channel that dislike in full force against what the movie is primarily condemning, and I think that worked out- it's not a pleasant movie to watch.
I had actually considered a final scene where the Creator confides in Mr. Purple that he misses Mr. Triangle and regrets the way he made him, after which Mr. Purple paints himself red to take his place in future games. But it was just too wordy even in script form and didn't really gel with the dark tone of the rest of the movie, so I dropped it before even writing most of it.

I'm not offended by your movie in the least. As I saw the point of it immediately. I kinda figured that's why you made it, to kinda, I guess rub the guy in the dirt a little bit and "remind people" where he came from dispite his departure from that quest. It was a well executed movie and I think if you had pulled off your intended ending it would have had a better ending, and rounded it out. Heck, we might not be having as long of a conversation about it as we have been having. You did do a great job. And I appreciate the fact that even though you have bitter feelings towards my character that you have acknowledged my efforts to try and paint him in a better light.

Not to sound like I'm nitpicking, but we are working in an industry where teenagers, over-developed high schoolers, and cutesy animals are often cast in the most melodramatic, "serious" stories the industry has to offer. I fail to see how a man shaped like a triangle wouldn't work if it was done correctly. In fact, it would fit in perfectly.RedMaverickZero wrote:

We are talking about a man who is shaped like a triangle.
I just don't really think the character is conducive to serious roles.
Also: just to preemptive this, I didn't come out of lurking just to pick on you or be mean-spirited, something about that just bugged me.
