So I was thinking of pumping a bunch of different abilities into the gauntlet that Kalar's been working on, essentially turning it into his One Ring of Power of sorts. Here are the things I was thinking of adding to it:
Gauntlet of Pain
Upon touching a subject, this gauntlet inflicts 1 point of damage as per the Inflict Minor Wounds spell. This has a reverse effect on undead.
Spell Used: Inflict Minor Wounds
Spell Level: 0
Caster Level: Lowered to 1
Use-activated or continuous: 0.5 (spell level) × 1 (caster level) × 2,000 gp = 1,000 gp
Require Alignment (Evil): 1,000 gp - 30% = 700 gp
Add to existing (+50% of price): 700 gp × 1.5 = 1,050 gp
Final Cost: 1,050 gp & 42 xp
Gauntlet of Light
This gauntlet has two functions, the user can hold a fist up in the air and will the gauntlet to glow like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20 ft. Radius with dim light for an additional 20 ft. Alternatively, the wearer can hold a palm out to create a cone of bright light 30 ft. Long with an additional 30 ft. Of dim light.
Spell Used: Light
Spell Level: 0
Caster Level: Lowered to 1
Use-activated or continuous: 0.5 (spell level) × 1 (caster level) × 2,000 gp = 1,000 gp
Continuous: 1,000 gp × 1.5 = 1,500 gp
Require Alignment (Evil): 1,500 gp - 30% = 1,050 gp
Arbitrary (Adding another Light effect to the gauntlet.): 1,050 gp + 25% = 1,312 gp
Add to existing (+50% of price): 1,312 gp × 1.5 = 1,969 gp
Final Cost: 1,969 gp & 79 xp
Gauntlet of Purification
Upon touching any food, this gauntlet will immediately purge any poisons or toxins from the food. It cannot, however, restore rotten or spoiled food to an edible state. Further, the user has no indication as to whether or not any poisons were removed.
Spell Used: Purify Food and Drink
Spell Level: 0
Caster Level: Lowered to 1
Use-activated or continuous: 0.5 (spell level) × 1 (caster level) × 2,000 gp = 1,000 gp
Require Alignment (Evil): 1,000 gp - 30% = 700 gp
Arbitrary (Cannot purify spoiled or rotten food, only works on poisons and toxins.): 700 gp - 10% = 630 gp
Add to existing (+50% of price): 630 gp × 1.5 = 945 gp
Final Cost: 945 gp & 38 xp
Still thinking of other stuff to add though.

Does the Ride-by Attack feat mean Rob can cure Rachelle without dismounting Stumpy?

Rob's Knowledge local check
Was a lot of info so I put it here:
Magic is considered to be an evil
pagan practice. Clerics do not cast spells, and spell casters in general
are viewed with suspicion. While the ecclesiastical laws are not rigidly
enforced, spell casters are subject to arrest and trial by the Inquisition
(with subsequent execution left to the civil authorities). As long as the
party uses its spells to occasionally aid the citizens of Averoigne
without actively harming them, party members are not likely to be
arrested.
The capital and major city of Averoigne is Vyones. Vyones is a walled
city that houses a cathedral and the Archbishop of Vyones (the
political and clerical leader of the province). Outside Vyones' walls is
a large cemetery. The fertile plains around Vyones host numerous
towns, hamlets, and taverns. The second largest city of Averoigne is
Ximes. Ximes has smaller walls than Vyones, and the Bishop of
Ximes lives here. The only other city in Averoigne is Perigon. Perigon
is unwalled and houses an abbey.
The largest villages in Averoigne are Touraine, Les Hiboux, Sainte
(Ste) Zenobie, Cordeliers, Moulins, and La Frenaie. La Frenaie is also
the name of a castle-chateau. Sylaire, Fausseflammes, Malin bois, and
Ylourgne are ruined chateaux.
Averoigne is noted mainly for Averoigne Forest which fills three
quarters of the province. The river Isoile runs from Ylourgne to the
swamps around Les Hiboux. There are three main areas of cleared
farmland in Averoigne around the three cities. The well-watered area
around Vyones is the most fertile and houses the largest population. A
road runs from Vyones to Ximes; a dirt track leads from Ximes to
Perigon and from Perigon to Vyones.
The city of Perigon is currently being terrorized by a mysterious attacker known as the Beast of Averoigne. The Beast stalks its prey by night, killing both animals and men. The only portion of the kill which the Beast devours is the
marrow inside the bones. Whenever the beast appears a large red light appears in the sky. It seems to appear once every other year. It's described as a 40ft reptile.
People of note Rob has heard of (* means he's met them):
*Gerard de l'Automne : a skilled bard
*Gilles Grenier : alchemist / slightly crazy
*Jehan Mauvaissoir : most well known assassin in the kingdom
Moriamis : leader of the pegans
Sephora : Magical leader in ancient Sylaire
*Gaspard : Former Pupil of Nathaire. Current leader of Vyones
Nathaire : Exiled leader of Vyones / necromancer
Azedarc is the Bishop of Ximes : Opinion seems equally divided as
to whether the man is a black magician masquerading as a bishop or a
saintly, maligned man.
Luc le Chaudronnier : Religious hero in perigon
*Theophile, the Abbot of Perigon : Strong ties with Azedarc
Helena : Old Adventurous ship captain.

I seem to remember something from earlier in the quest that the ban on magic and the inquisition started when the Castle Clover/Amber curse began and separated Averiogne from the rest of the world/planes. Is that accurate? Or is it something that Rob would not know, since it happened before his birth?
The bishop of Ximes is the leader of the inquisition, right?
Does Rob know anything about the Archbishop of Vyones? Just his name?
Who (if anybody) is the current overall leader of the whole country?

Ah, sorry I didn't notice those questions. (even though you mentioned them in the irc, heh sorry again)
OK
so basically, yes Rob would know that the ban on magic is based off of the fact that the kingdom is cut off from the rest of the world.
The spiritual leader of Vyones is Bishop Jean-luc, someone who Rob knows little about. I suppose he would know his name though, yes.
As ruler of Vyones, the political leader of the country is now Gaspard. However, Azedarc, the Archbishop of Ximes and the leader of the inquisition, is actually considered the leader of the kingdom. Vyones is less religiously ruled than the rest of the country. (Which might be why Rob prefers it.)
Overall, there's a general sense of kinglessness in Averoigne. This is due to the last king cursing the kingdom thus causing the idea of a king never really sitting well with the kingdom ever since.
Hope that clears things up.

Was bored, thought I'd think up magic items for everyone in the party:
Crown of Commanding
This regal crown looks normal, but it allows the wearer to order a single creature to kneel. Should the creature fail a DC 17 Will save, it obeys this command for one round. Once this power is used, the magic vanishes from the crown. The magic returns 1d4+1 rounds later, at which point it can be used again.
Spell Used: Command
Spell Level: 1
Caster Level: Lowered to 1
Command word: 1 (spell level) × 1 (caster level) × 1,800 gp = 1,800 gp
Continuous: 1,800 gp × 4 = 7,200 gp
Require Skill (Diplomacy): 7,200 gp - 10% = 6,480 gp
Arbitrary (Only one command possible, unlike the five possible with the spell.): 6,480 gp - 10% = 5,832 gp
Final Cost: 5,832 gp & 233 xp
Lute of Death Metal
This looks and plays like an ordinary lute, but it has powerful magical properties in the hands of a bard. Once per day, if a bard points the lute at a target, strikes a wicked metal pose, and then plays a hardcore riff, the lute sends forth a blast of pure auditory awesomeness that does 7d6 sonic damage (Fort half) to the target.
Spell Used: Sound Lance
Spell Level: 3
Caster Level: 7
Command word: 3 (spell level) × 7 (caster level) × 1,800 gp = 37,800 gp
Charges per day: 37,800 gp / (5 / 1 charges per day) = 7,560 gp
Require Class (Bard): 7,560 gp - 30% = 5,292 gp
Require Skill (Perform 10 ranks): 5,292 gp - 10% = 4,763 gp
Final Cost: 4,763 gp & 191 xp
Shatter Gloves
Once per day, when attempting to either sunder something or to break something with an attack, these gloves can be used to amplify that attempt. Whether or not the attack connects, these gloves channel powerful sonic energy through the wearer's weapon which blasts forth from the weapon into the target. When used in this manner, the blast destroys any solid non-magical item weighing 70 lbs or less.
Spell Used: Shatter
Spell Level: 2
Caster Level: 7
Command word: 2 (spell level) × 7 (caster level) × 1,800 gp = 25,200 gp
Charges per day: 25,200 gp / (5 / 1 charges per day) = 5,040 gp
Final Cost: 5,040 gp & 202 xp
Bracers of the Barbarian
Three times per day, these bracers allow the wearer to shrug off the negative effects of raging, thus preventing any fatigue from such.
Spell Used: Restoration, Lesser
Spell Level: 2
Caster Level: Lowered to 3
Use-activated or continuous: 2 (spell level) × 3 (caster level) × 2,000 gp = 12,000 gp
Charges per day: 12,000 gp / (5 / 3 charges per day) = 7,200 gp
Require Class (Barbarian): 7,200 gp - 30% = 5,040 gp
Final Cost: 5,040 gp & 202 xp

Oh, great, Tammytharn is going to arrive just in time for Galse to cook and eat the childrenGizmog wrote:MEANWHILE, SOMEWHERE ELSE:
Galse has finally found a traveller able to share with him the answer to a question that's troubled him ever since they got here:
"If you don't use dogs for little people to ride on, what *do* you use them for?"
A new world of culinary possibilities has opened itself up. Thank goodness for the daring cuisine of Averoigne!
